Hopefully this rumour turns out to be worthy of it's own thread, although you never know with Turkish media. Actually you do, it's 99% tosh usually.
I've seen a lot of him as I watch all of the players from Izmir on multiscreen. He's never impressed me obvs. No better than A Trialist.
I thought you could at least show some humility by looking at Williams numbers in the Prem, and admit he’s better than what you thought. You can’t argue that for a 20 yr old, who has had limited minutes last season, but proved he was decent in 19/20 in over 1000mins of Prem football, is good enough. It’s just illogical. The numbers don’t lie. For a £2mil loan fee, with Masina out, Williams would push Rose, and Masina when he’s back, for starts. You want us to sign Yokuşlu, but don’t want Williams, who is 7 years younger and putting up numbers that are not to far away Yokuşlu. Doesn’t make sense. One is good enough, yet the other one certainly isn’t. So my response was sarcastic.
Yokuslu has a far bigger data set to judge from over his career. Williams has pretty poor numbers for a small sample size. Needs a Championship loan. Poor defensively and offers very little going forward
Small sample size yes. Poor numbers, that’s just wrong on every level. Since I have to keep proving everyone wrong, might as well keep going. This is Williams compared to Masina for the Prem season of 19/20 per 90. Of which Masina played 9 more games. Small sample size of Williams, yes. Can clearly see though that he is more than capable in the Prem. Fine if you don’t believe so, but you’re wrong. You can’t argue with the numbers provided by FBref and Opta. You can go on SofaScore, whoscored and any other data website and see that he outperformed Masina that season per 90. I don’t have Wyscout so maybe that shows something different. From what I’ve seen of him, and the numbers he put up as an 18/19 yr old in the 19/20 season, it’s blatantly obvious he’s more than good enough. So I will say it again, with Masina out, a loan deal for Williams would be a very smart move by the club. I’ve proved that with facts. The data backs that up. Over 1000 mins of Prem league football and he’s produced those numbers. 1000mins+ is a decent sample size to take data from. In fact, if I’m not mistaken you’ve tweeted sample sizes on your own twitter account using 1000mins or more as a sample size. Anyway, not trying to argue with people over Williams. We won’t sign him anyway, even though we should. Bottom line, the data proves he’s good enough, regardless of how or what people think of him.
Slightly off topic but I don't agree with the pass representation. Yes more forward passes are good, but more backwards and sideways passes should be bad not good? All of the numbers on the right are better than the numbers on the left.
You're showing stats for Williams for 19/20 where he seemed good, but he's been crap since the start of 20/21. And none of those stats really show how often he over-commits in to challenges or gets himself out of position, allowing the winger to beat him time and again. It's not just me and others in here either, look at his thread in the Man Utd forum for their fans' opinion on him. All from the last few days: "We must sell him while we can get decent fee. Not close to be even backup option on this level" "Some players aren't good enough but he so often doesn't even look like a footballer" "Nothing about him screams Premier League to me." "I don't want to see Williams near the first team on matchday ever again." "He looked so promising when covering for Shaw in 2019/2020 but looks like he’s declined." "I mean, he was pretty awful last season too." https://www.redcafe.net/threads/brandon-williams-2021-22-performances.464094/ Loaning him would be a Garner situation all over again, he'd might play the first few games while more senior players are missing, not do very well, then spend the rest of his time on the bench before being recalled in January. Another thing, right-footers at left-back are very rarely the optimal solution.
You’re comparing him to Masina, and his numbers are so so with someone who’s not definitely good enough for the Prem. Williams in the 19/20 season had 0.45 tackles won per 90 (third percentile) and 0.78 interceptions per 90 (28 percentile), also a 0.05 xA per 90 (30 percentile) to me that suggests the opposite that he’s definitely good enough data wise. Those are poor numbers when you’re playing for a team like United
No way are we paying £2m to loan a player we won’t be able to sign at the end of it. Not withstanding our relationship with United over loans probably isn’t great right now after Garner last season.
Brandon Williams was good in the youth leagues, but not exceptional. Ethan Laird was a much better wingback, but has unfortunately picked up injuries at a very important time in his development. I'd take Williams for <£5m for his mid-EPL potential, but I don't think he's currently good or consistent enough for what we are after. Also, now Telles is injured and Shaw has two broken ribs, won't United will need him as cover?
Friend used to be a scout. Plus Man U r da greatest #GGMU #UReDZ #myrealno1team #whyamIevenonthisforum?!
Thank you, you just confirmed my point. I really don’t care what what percentile he’s in, but your percentile and FBref’s percentile is way off. FBref have him in the 70th percentile for tackles, 93rd percentile for interceptions and 89th percentile for blocks. That’s based on the last 365 days, which is a little under 800 minutes of Prem football. 1 games less (give or take a few minutes) than the data you put out on twitter for Hughes and Grimes. Bottom line is, per 90 with over 1000mins of Prem football 19/20, as an 18/19 year old, he put up better number defensively than Masina in a lot of areas, per Opta. I’ve shown stats that prove he’s more than capable of playing Prem football. The whole point I was making was, with Masina out injured, Rose as our only senior LB, Williams for a £2mil loan fee would be good cover. With the current squad options we have (Rose, who looks a stone overweight, and Masina who is injured) we won’t find cheaper cover, with Prem experience, who put up good numbers, and will fit our wage structure.
United fans think Garner is the second coming, most of them have actually never been to a live game that make those comments, and they have proven multiple times their football knowledge is rubbish.
