I know he's young, but how can a £6 million striker be so dreadful? How can he not be showing any promise? The scouts have a lot to answer for on this one, even more with Berghuis as he is mid 20s.

He clearly had a fitness issue which looks like it's being rectified and he's finally started to force his way into the matchday squad so I don't think it's right to say he hasn't shown signs of improvement. We haven't needed to use him this season, simple as that. This season is just a chance for him to learn which is what the guy said himself the other night on Instagram.

We haven't needed him? We have 2 strikers and a serious lack of goals. I'd say we needed him, or at least a back up striker fit to at least make the bench...

Amrabat is as much a striker as Capoue, Behrami and Abdi are natural wingers.

Subbed off at HT in our U21 game against Cardiff.

    We're currently losing 1-0.

I don't want to write him off yet but it really is awful that he can't score for the U21s.

Even Steve Leo Beleck got a hattrick for our U21s/Reserves

Is this our worst reserve side ever? and is there any sort of future for Sean Murray, doesn't seem to do anything even at U21 level

    Nothing much from Mensah either

I'm torn between wondering if our Under 21's are simply crap, or Harry Kewell is a useless coach. Either way, I think we've royally stuffed up by purchasing Oulare and Berghuis.

Berghuis has age on his side, I can understand someone of his age not necessarily settling in a new country. Probably needs a high end Championship loan next season though.

  23. Whippendell Woods

I'm not having this argument at all - Berghuis is just too bloody lightweight and not good or determined enough. He isn't going to get good enough. No matter what time he gets. Yes he can play a pass under no pressure but English football at any level isn't like that.

    The evidence is this....

At the same age as Berghuis is now, Troy Deeney had scored 20 goals for us in the Championship and fired THAT goal past Leicester's keeper.

Berghuis is only six months younger than Matej Vydra. Who for years, has been a Czech full international striker, actually scoring goals, the Championship Player of The Season 2012-13, scored goals in the Premier League and all the rest of the glory you all know.

Ekstrand and Angella were both delivering stand out performances in our first team at a younger age than Berghuis is now too.

I could go on and on with players from the past who were the real deal in our team before the age of 24 that age that Steven Berghuis now is, the Dutchman who still "needs development".

Berghuis doesn't even cut it in the u21s, and he can't change the game at youth level leave alone our first team, not that he ever looks that bothered these days.

Berghuis is only 11 months younger than Fernando Forestieri. Who had delivered so much more at the same age.

It has turned out to be a huge mistake to bring him here and he should now look to go where he can be happy. Or effective. If he's willing to accept the pay cut?

He'd get battered in the Championship or League One so it's unlikely to be any club there.

My mistake, for some reason I thought he was 21 at the moment rather than 24.

The highly vaunted Pozzo recruitment model has been more miss than his this season. Hope we have a better success rate next season. These 2 have been an utter waste of money and represent 2 of our 3 record signings don't they ? Obbi should have stayed on Peep Show.

  26. Hornetzzz

Give him a break, will ya? He's only 20 years old, coming from a completely different league, and having to adapt to so many new things. His fitness has been a huge problem but he's working hard to improve that. Once he gets that sorted and works on other aspects of his game, he could be a real menace with that huge frame of his, even if it isn't until a few years.

Who cares if they've been a waste of money? Is it your money? It's small change compared to the money we're now receiving so who gives a **** if they turn out to be duds. Which I'm still not convinced they will be.

  28. The undeniable truth

The undeniable truth First Team Captain

What crazy comment. Of course I care and so should you. The point is that money could have been spent on players who weren't duds ! Or are you saying you wouldn't care if they'd spent £5m on bringing back Kerry Dixon instead of buying Capoue as it's not your money ??

It hasn't been more miss this season than others. What about the second season in the Championship which was probably the worst? Can we show some perspective - this was our first season in the Premiership. The recruitment model has kept us up. Anyone that disagrees with that look at where Aston Villa, Newcastle and Sunderland are. Also look at how much we have spent on wages compared to other clubs.

What a silly decision it was to buy a couple of duds. Why did they choose to sign duds. What a silly thing that was that they decided to do.

I have/had [I haven't heard from him in a while] a mate who scouted predominately for Olympiakos and mostly in the Balkans.... he's was threatened, shot at, kidnapped or beaten up on a regular basis.

    He only does basketball now.

  32. The undeniable truth

I don't think they decided to buy duds;). They just chose really poorly in many cases and ironically in 2 of the 3 cases where they actually splashed the cash.

To be fair I've mentioned it before (possibly just on GH). If you don't find it interesting then that's fair do's but old Georgios had me fascinated with his tales (and yes I've seen the bullet wounds).
