Giving up a 2-0 and 3-2 lead, scoring late but then missing a sitter at the very end? Sounds like Watford. Though they did win, so maybe not.

I hope not. Half of our cowards would end up with their heads on pikes. Mind you, be something different I guess.

Unless he has been discounted in the 17 pages of this thread I haven’t read, he took over from Pearson before (I think) and has been seen at Watford games so knows Gino(I think) , won the Prem so the championship should be easy , is used to being sacked in slightly odd circumstances (season after winning the prem)

    sounds perfect

I’m backing Quique to get the shout. I’ve been studying the form and he usually wins this contest.

Not exactly a great league. Probably equivalent to the lower Championship. Two or three decent clubs and the rest pretty mediocre. The overseas players they have are also of the second or indeed third rank. Players who never made it in their domestic league. Not exactly an enthralling prospect.

The problem is that we don't want to go with a tried and tested boring British coach like Hughton, we won't be able to entice a younger manager that's building something elsewhere due to the lack of permanency in the role, we can't get a big name out of work coach with our diminished status and we won't want to pay compensation given our finances.

So it seriously reduces the pool of options. This sounds like it could be a sensible gamble. Young, up and coming coach, speaks good English, winning mentality, out of work, would probably jump at the chance of building his name in England.

And we can always sack him after four games if we're not top of the league...

I don't know, I'm one of the most negative ****s on this forum and think it looks like a very promising move. The Israeli league might not be the greatest but he still led them to a 31 point winning margin.

Looks like a winner to me and now I'm an expert on his style of play having spent two hours watching highlights of Maccabi, it's exactly how I want us to play. Fast, utilising wide players, crosses, free kick goals, players rolling around at every opportunity getting penalties.

All great tactics to get us out of the Championship.

You missed out being constantly micro-managed by a plump talentless spy for the owner who will provide you with cheap dross and with whom you need to agree tactics and even subs. You have to be a nobody (like Ilic) or a desperate somebody (like Hughton) to want this role.

I can't remember that far back WH48. Probably. We'll see how it goes. No doubt if it works it will be a masterstroke followed by Ivic being sacked at some point or if it fails it will be Pozzo out. I would like to get a youngish coach to build a long term identity for the club and some long term planning on the pitch. We do need to get this sorted out though. But there are other things that have been discussed by everyone like the mental/physical prep or lack of, lack of specialist coaches and the medical side of things plus locking away fatty that need immediate work.

The team has to hit the ground running fully focused, motivated, fit and with a coach who has a clear plan and is a tactician with all the appropriate backup. This season should be one of the easier ones in the Chump so we need to take advantage and make sure we keep Muff , Norwich and a couple of the other sides behind us.

Also agree with this. Could bring in Guardiola and nothing would change with Giraldi standing there with his notebook.

There are hundreds and hundreds of coaches, many of them talented, who would bite your hand off for a possible season long project. The pool is huge. In order to be a coach or manager in football you have to have sufficient self belief that this time you will be the one to make it work.

And the evidence is there that it’s a good job to take. Gracia out of work and bereft of offers post Russia, did well, raised his profile, did badly, got sacked now gets Valencia. Watford is hardly a career disaster.

There are loads of Gracias who were flavour of the month two or three years ago. We just choose one that best suits the style we want to adopt in the Championship and who may get the best out of the players we will have left. Who has a compelling pitch.

With our Premiership facilities and high profile squad we are still more attractive than many other Championship clubs. And we should have the intelligence to spot talent emerging. Graham Potter was an obvious choice years back. Who is the next one?

The only coaches unavailable to us may be those rising stars with lots of offers. Frankly 8 out of 10 of them will be back in the manager swamp desperate for a job in a couple of years.

This is deluded to be honest. There are hundreds and hundreds of coaches who want the Watford job? So what, if we don't want them? There clearly aren't hundreds and hundreds of people with the experience to do the job, and that's before you factor in the Pozzos wanting them to speak English after the Mazzarri debacle and the fact we have *never* paid compensation to get a manager out of another club meaning they have to already be out of work.

You use Gracia as the shining example of someone that came to us and raised his profile, but we were in the Premier League, a wholly different level of exposure to the Championship. We also won't offer the wages we would have as a Premier League club. And our reputation must precede us - it's obvious that if you want to build something, Watford is not the place to go.

Graham Potter was in the same category as Ivic is now, someone that's achieved in a small league getting paid a (relative) pittance who would take a job like ours for financial reasons and as a springboard. That's where we should be looking and by all accounts are. But the idea we can have the pick of the managers out there is quite frankly, utter nonsense at this stage.

Someone will want the job .

Just depends how long they can put up with people looking over their shoulders and watching their every move in training ?

And naturally they will need to win games !

I suspect this is what happened with Pearson and it all came to a head at West Ham with big egos and voices clashing after an awful performance.

Flores was just a mistake and Gracia had a long run ( despite the media claims ) which ended badly.

Seems like Ivic is in a similar mould to Joka . Ie he’s won lots of titles in minor leagues , but he knows how to take a decent squad and mould then into a winning side and plays attacking football . I think that’s the logic . Certainly worked with Joka. Should be interesting anyway

I didn’t say we could have the pick, I’m just saying the pick we can have is a pretty big one, with lots of reasonably decent candidates and recent top tier managers at the Puel and Houghton level. Football is very fickle and there are lots of managers who rise quickly to then fall back into the crowd. They don’t get to turn down many opportunities if they want to carry on.

And there is no reason why we can’t attract up and coming managers. There are a finite number of clubs and we can offer a big salary with the chance to work with a big and moderately high profile squad. Lampard, for example did a season in the Championship.

Sure we have issues but let’s not get carried away thinking the rest of the football World follows our psychodramas like this forum.
