Can we just get a bloody striker and someone who can at least take a corner (and preferably a free kick)

Decent performance but another game that demonstrates how desperate we are for a good striker.

Also, think we need to get a CM in. Losing Capoue is bad, and if Chalobah has done is hamstring we need someone else in there.

We should just rename the match threads to this after every game. Saves the bother of typing it.

After a shaky start we did well defensive wise and with the ball.

Trouble is you have to look like scoring in these games.

Suppose no extra time isn't a bad thing.

Not true. There were a few in both halfs that resulted in chances.

That was about as good as could be expected. We huffed and puffed and got in some good positions. But if we did put in a decent cross or set piece (1 in 5), it was powderpuffed wide or looped into the keepers arms. We play like a side reliant on set pieces but we're not great at them!

I have to admit, I thought we gave that a real go. Had we taken a chance and had Pedro kept his shots lower we may of even won that. Great to see Hughes get 90 mins under his belt, thought Zinc looked lively and can actually take a corner. I don't think Man Utd really got out of 2nd gear but they were pretty wasteful. Dan James is toilet.

We defended well overall although Bachmann was flat footed and Senaltra didn't cover himself in glory for the goal, but we did alright and kept pushing. Gray is a total waste of space and the sooner he leaves the better.

To be totally honest, I would play that 11 against Huddersfield. Chalobah getting a knock was unfortunate towards the end, but I never really thought we would concede a second goal. It was a free hit tonight, but I think overall none of them bar Gray had a terrible game. Lots of positives to take for Xisco, and I hope he takes that into consideration for the weekend.

    Also Shout box was awesome.

Didn’t watch it but I’m told United scored after 4 minutes and then sat comfortably in fourth gear for the remaining 86 whilst we did our usual ‘huff and puff with no shots on target’ routine

We were crying out for okaka to come on and how badly we need someone to be able to do something with a dead ball.

Thought that was decent, we look like we are starting to put a bit of a team together here at last. Sarr doesn’t look like he wants to be here to me, hasn’t done all season and I think that’s why he was taken off. Defence was very solid after conceding a soft one early.

Seen far worse games than that this Season. At least we tried moving if forward even if it was doomed to fail with our strikers. Zinckernagel looked promising and Hughes grew into it. Hungbo had a fine cameo while Sierralta acquitted himself well again. WTE was poor to begin with but began shaking off the rust. Masina I thought looked very good. Sema at RW is too one footed but tried as usual and had some impact.

Sarr was off colour as he has been all Season. For the love of God take your man ffs. Navarro was utter tripe whilst Gray was Gray. Pedro was quiet and Chalobah was his usual self for better and worse.

We started terribly, but weren't too bad after 20 minutes. We still seriously lack goal threat. Hopefully if Zinck plays on the left he'll put on his shooting boots at some point when cutting inside, otherwise we're still reliant for goals on our two wide players in Sema and Sarr running to the byline to cross in to no one - which is a terrible attacking set-up which just won't work.

There's a reason why most teams now play with inverted wingers, even if they have a CF who can actually get on the end of crosses.

Bachmann - 6 - not much to do
Navarro - 4 - James had him on toast
Troost-Ekong - 4 - lost McTominay for the goal from the corner. Some terrible passing. Disappointingly shaky.
Sierralta - 6 - actually played the best of the 3 CBs who featured.
Masina - 6 - started poor, played some decent passes later.

Chalobah - 5 - sloppy again. Hopefully his minor injury makes sure we bring in another ball-winning midfielder.
Hughes - 5 - didn't notice him much except for him making lots of fouls.
Sarr - 6 - some terrible decisions early on, but caused them some problems later. Still below what we know he can be.
Zinckernagel - 6 - being a bit generous in hope. Sometimes looked lively, other times had slumped shoulders. Ran down cul-de-sacs. Some poor set-pieces. Struggled a bit up against a very fast defender in Williams.

Joao Pedro - 7 - looked our best player, the rest or whatever it was seems to have done him good. Shame with his age and stamina he'll probably still struggle to play every game this season though.
Gray - 6 - some of his link-up play was surprisingly decent for him. Still provided no goal threat though.

Hungbo actually seemed fairly lively when he came on, seemed like a Quina after hitting the gym. Good to see a left-footed winger dribbling with the ball in off the right flank at pace. Probably still too soon to want to use him much in the Champ though.

I’ve felt for a while now that we’re one 20 goal a season striker and one 20 assist a season set piece taker away from being a very decent championship side

A good performance I thought with plenty of positives, if we play like that for the rest of the season we should be up there come the end of the season. Main concern is still Gray. Hoping I never see Deeney in a Watford shirt again though, we dont need him anymore by the look of it. I thought Hung-Bo looked lively when he came on, hope we get to see more of him this season. Decent debut by Zinkernegel(?) I thought too.

We did a lot better today than we did against Swansea last week. An equaliser wasn’t unfathomable today whereas it was last week. So that’s an improvement.

Dr Z looked very tidy when he got the ball, excited to see more.

We had worse performance at Old Trafford as a Premier League side, today was okay.

Good performance, only a few shots on target but we managed 18 shots away to the team currently joint top of the Premier league. United had some very good players today and we made it difficult for them.

Oh and Hungbo should be more involved. Looks like he's direct and not afraid to run at players, could be useful for 20 minutes off the bench.

A fully fit Hughes back would be great to have back for the league. At least he has a football brain and also I never thought I would say this but he has more fight and aggression in him than the majority of the team put together. I think we need another proper midfielder next to Hughes (Bashiru?), a decent striker and cover at lb, then we might have the makings of a decent team.

I was concerned for 20 minutes but we got back into the game and I was happy with that last half hour.
A slow Challobah and half fit Hughes was a problem at times but what a difference when Sema came on.! You have to love this guy he's big, quickish, full of energy and pushes us forward.
I would be happy to see most of that finishing eleven start the next game tbh, we had so much more energy all over and these guys need to start getting game time. (unless we are going to bring in some experience in CM.
My only moan was that we don't look fully convicted nor make enough darting runs but some of that is low confidence and will hopely improve.
I would switch to Pedro/Perica up top, and I hope dele-B is back soon, if not one tough CM please.
Oh yeah I also agree that Sarr is not mentally on his game, and if I'm honest I would take the money now if offered, and use some of that money to bring in 2 decent fit players...

Chalobah is utterly dreadful. Ekongs ‘defending’ for the goal was dreadful. Apart from that we were ok. Toothless but neat and tidy with it at least.

That was okay. Was concerned we'd get thumped after conceding so early but we held our own and gave it a decent enough go. We've all said it time & time again but my word we do need a striker. Zingernackel looked good I thought. He should be a good player for us in the Champ.
