Yep. At least it’s a clear indication of who is and isn’t still here. And no one other than Welbeck has had their regular number taken from them.

Mariappa isn’t there anymore so have to think he’s definitely not returning.

 

Yep. He’s definitely one of the players that Ivic has been talking about.

Interesting that there is no #5 saving that for someone?

Wilmot given the #6 is a big statement. Clearly going to be the first name on the sheet when it comes to CB’s.

 

Is it grounds for concern that Pervis and Suarez have such crappy numbers? Surprised Suarez didn't get the 10.

Would we be able to switch them in a few weeks should we bump Janmaat and Deeney out, thus giving Suarez the 9 and Pervis the 2?

 

No I don't think they could be switched now. Only vacant numbers assigned to new players or those not registered with a number.

I would have thought Sierralta would have been given number 5.

26 seems to be reserved for goalies though.

 

I know most people on the forum think Deeney is a "c", but I doubt the club would do that to him in an official capacity.

 

I was implying he wasn't given a traditional forwards number, #9 or #10, either here now or in Spain last season.

 

Much as I hate right backs being given no. 3, I think people are reading too much into players bring outside 1-11. Some prefer their lucky numbers or the numbers they wore when first breaking into first team football. John Terry spent his whole club career at no. 26, and that wasn't because he didn't quite make the second eleven.

Pereyra's number staying the same is purely coincidental: even if he was no. 8 last year he would still be no. 37 now.

 

Maybe we are getting Troost-Ekong after all. He wore number 5 in most of his previous teams as well as in Nigeria national team.

 

Or...we had 5 and 6 vacant and the other CB’s we have just wanted to keep their numbers?

I really wouldn’t link the two personally, even more so as Leventhal has suggested Troost-Ekong is training with Udinese and in their plans. If we get another CB from Udine, I would guess it’ll be another that’s surplus to requirements

I thought Welbeck's number was 999

 

Disappointing that Gary Goals, Cyril Centreback and Sam Skiesit haven't got numbers.

 

All the neutrals ******* over how good that squad is on paper, obviously there's a lot of fat to lose from that list (not just from Deeney), but it's nice to hear good things from outside the club

 

Welbeck got a big **** off then. And there is room for another centre back.

 

Some players may even have a certain shirt/squad number in their contract. Del Boy being number 7 wouldn’t surprise me. So until he officially leaves nobody else can have that number.

Do you think the club will refund me as I’ve Welbeck 10 on the back of my new home shirt.
