Seriously, would you like the club to be represented by that? Is it a bird? Is it a bat? Maybe it's one of those works of art that is in the eyes of the beholder, just a meaningless 'thing' ?
Why can't we have a name and a nickname? How many people do we know who have a name and a nickname? It's not unusual is it? Our name is Watford, a town in Hartfordshire and both the town and the county have stags in their badge or crest. Our nickname is the Hornets which derives from when the club changed its colours to yellow in 1959/60. What's difficult about it? Marketing man "you just don't understand"
FFS m@ lern to rite proper art kritisism: "The artiste has presented a new kinetic animalistic representational geometric design heavily influenced by the BBS own Master but makes his own fluidic @CarlosKickaballsian statement about respecting neither physical nor stylistic boundaries."
That hornet doesn't look worthy of being made any more prominent - it's an undefined scribble. The rest of the badge is pretty good though. It'd look better without the hornet (maybe even just with the hert and the ball on the Watford text, similar to the Spurs badge), but unfortunately a hornet needs to be there. It's already been very much established that it is difficult, verging on the impossible, to design an impressive looking hornet.
Anyone thought of putting a hornet head on a hart body, mr tumnus style? Then every **** er will be happy
I like this one as it's one of the only ones that isn't trying to shoehorn in '1881' to please a group of 30 fans that bang a drum every other home game.
So do people really think the inclusion of '1881' on any design is there to appease the supporters group.. and not because it's, you know, the year the club were formed.
https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...make-changes-new-club-crest-selection-method/ Seems the club have moved the goalposts on how the decision will be made. Can’t figure out yet whether this means it is more or less likely that we will just stay with what we have...
Yes. Please see the reaction to the exclusion of it from any design on Twitter. As I said, shoehorned.
Yep, I do like this one, no need to change it, sends the right message, moving forward with respect for our roots. If there's anyone on here who is on the voting panel please give it your vote!
Ah Twitter.. the fountain of wisdom. Many club badges incorporate their formation year but dont have supporters clubs with the same name. Thinking ours would be just for that reason is frankly shortsighted.
Got an email from the club that I'm on the expanded selection panel. As mentioned above, they've changed things a bit:
Annoyed I didn't apply to the panel now - I didn't bother because I wouldn't have been able to go and attend any round-table discussion anyway, but I'd imagine that the new selection stage with 900 fans will be done online. It would have been interesting to have seen the final 50 submissions. Perhaps @Pob or @Arakel might be able to post the 50 on here as well?
