He had 18 starts and 4 sub apps this season with one goal and only one yellow. Also his average SSN rating is 6,2 (fans rating 6,3) which is equal to Jay's and just below Shittu. I think maybe this is a sign Shittu is going - weren't Wigan showing interest?

Wigan have now lost two centre backs so they will be looking. Imagine if Shittu goes there. Attacking corners with Heskey and Shittu up front - bloody scary.

Matt Jackson A solid, experienced c/back, with Prem and Champ'sp experience, on a bosman. Adds decent depth to the squad. Nothing wrong with this one in my view, except it could mean that Danny S is more likely to go.
I guess Malky wants to concentrate on coaching. Jackson will be good cover if we lose Shittu and / or Jay. He will be decent at Championship level and, apart from his wages, he is free. If big Dan does go I still think that we need a big centre half as well as Carlisle. Jackson is much more of a Jay type player.
Adds a bit more depth to the squad. I dont think he'll be 1st choice but he'll be decent enough cover.

He's been around for a while but he was offered a one-year deal at Wigan which he turned down. So obviously Jewell thought he was good enough for the premiership so I'd think he'd be good enough for us in the CCC. I actually think he will be a contender for a starting berth. Maybe depending on the type of attackers our opponents have.
He's old, but Jay needs someone out there to hold his hand. So does big Dan too. Obviously Malky is being moved upstairs, as he made media comments earlier in the week saying he was happy to continue playing. Good Championship signing, so I'm not disappointed. I think what people need to remember is although in an ideal world we'd be signing amazing Premiership talent left, right and centre the Championship needs a special kind of player to get you out of it.
He has been brought in as cover for Jay as I said before. He is not a huge bloke about 6 foot -so we will still need a big centre half alongside, especially in the fizzypop. I just hope that his positional play will make up for his lack of pace in much the same way as it did for Malky. I don't think and I hope that this is not one of the major signings. He will be good cover for a season, maybe two.

Not really excited by this signing, but I think he is a carbon copy of Malky. He wont have pace, but will bring calmness, experience and organisation to the backline.
Hardly a glamorous or exciting signing, but I can see why Aidy has signed him, especially if Malky is moving onto coaching because we’ll need an older c/b on occasions to stabilise things. Just hope we can hang on to Jay, Danny and Clarke because then we have 4 very competent central defenders.

Spot on, couldn't agree more. As it says on the bbc article he is being bought in as cover for Jay when he's expected to be away on international duty.
How thrilling Just hope to God we can keep Shittu! Alas I fear he will leave...expect another centre back to sign (hopefully a younger, faster, bigger and better one than some ex-scummer) :rant:

I'm a little concerned about this signing. Not that I dont think Jackson is not a decent squad player, but Aidy never once mentioned a centre half in the players he was after. You got to look between the lines and think either Shittu or DeMerit are going, which will be a backward step as regards the strength of the team.
