Is that service someone stopping the ball on the line for him, a sniper killing the defence and goalkeeper, and the Mountain carrying him and physically using his head to to prod it home?
No it's the quick service that allows him to run in behind and finish first time. Yes his control is not great but the way the team crawled up the field last season with the ball allowing the entire defense to line up in two banks of 4 was never going to play to his strength.
Hopefully he’ll come to his senses and announce his support for a far right South American presidential candidate or ply a couple of hookers with Bailey’s and get on the front page of The Sun. (This is far easier than I thought. Just shows what a soap opera we’ve been the last few years.)
I'm still praying that he is announced as a gala singing before he seemlessly turns up at Norwich and we keep him on the website as he goes on to become a Canaries legend.
What does he offer for 70k a week or whatever it is he's on? When he starts acting like a footballer, instead of a runner up from Big Brother, I'll try and find a positive in him
Happy about this and feel vindicated in my positivity expressed here a couple of weeks ago that all our incomings wouldn’t necessarily be Udinese loans, and that only once key players starting leaving would we then we would get linked with some decent names. Saw him play for Exeter City a few years ago, and thought he looked very decent. City incidentally will get a % of the transfer fee as have a sell-on fee. My friends down here in the South West are very happy about that!
I'd love to be proven wrong and see Andre bang in 20 goals next season. I'd happily hold my hand up and say he showed me up, but for now I'll go on the facts we've seen to date.
Done deal according to (what claims to be) Swansea twitter account earlier today, the account doesn't have many followers though... https://twitter.com/SwansOff1cial/status/1301147841432301569
This comment is really going to need explaining. And more fool us for paying him that wage, that’s not his fault. Not saying it’s going to happen - but the certainty with which some people talk about his ability is setting themselves up for a climb-down if he’s puts a few goals away this season. Although I expect most will somehow try and wriggle out of it!
That he’s scored goals and been involved in some of the most memorable moments on the pitch for us as fans? Doesn’t fit the narrative though obviously.
You are talking about the same Gray as the rest of us, right? He’s been an atrocious signing. At the moment, one of the worst, if not the worst, we have ever made. Maybe his form will suddenly pick up now we’re in the Championship. But given he’s slower, less determined and has married a media loving popstar, I think it’s absolutely fair to assume the worst.
Andre Gray thread is on the link below everyone. http://www.wfcforums.com/index.php?threads/18-andre-gray.53213/page-16
I have never ever once said he’s been value for money. But he doesn’t control the fee we paid or the fact we have agreed to his wages. I think he’s been a poor signing - but that doesn’t mean I don’t think he’s given an extremely rough deal by some on here. There are some who claim he’s done nothing! That’s simply not true. Has he done enough to justify the outlay? No, nowhere near. But I don’t think he’s a lost cause. And if he had a good season which is entirely possible, there’s going to be some fantastic revisionism from some on here. He’s a Watford player and until he plays for someone else, I think he’s worthy of backing. Winning goal against Silva’s Everton, winning goal in injury time against Leicester, goal that took us to Wembley, assist to help us win the SF and take us to the Cup Final - are those moments worth £18m? No. But they were fine moments for us as fan’s nonetheless and lots of people forget that. Talking about his personal life is bizarre. He has a pop-star wife, so what? He’s hardly seen falling out of nightclubs with her weekly or forever on magazine covers. His choice of partner is completely irrelevant. How do you know he’s less determined? You don’t. There’s no evidence for it. Its the last time I’ll say any of the above as its not the first time I’ve said it, and those who hate him are so embedded in their views that’s it’s fruitless trying to point the above out.
We spent too much on Gray and his wages are too high which is hard to look past, but his impact off the bench and in the cup was pretty important in our most successful season in a long while. He is nowhere near as much of a waste of money as even Success and Penaranda have been. They were record transfers 4-5 years ago and have literally pissed it away on booze and prostitutes.
Exactly, we were fools to suggest Gray was ever going to become a top level player just because we spent the money on him, Success and Penaranda, OK we've ****ed over a bit, but have pissed away any chance they've had. Yes, Gray let the club down with his lockdown party, that can't have been good for club harmony, but (and I'm not defending them here) ultimately by then, he, Quina and Chalobah had been firmly established as bit part players at best, Success did his stupid **** when he was expected to really kick on
Any chance we can make an Andre Gray pop star wife thread please and reserve the Gray thread for just Gray. Thxs.
Nah, he's going to deny he's been transferred to us after the club announces it before turning up at training and then tearing up his contract to go and play with Papa Gueye, saying he never really had a contract with us.
Possibly a perfect replacement for Doucoure and Deeney rolled into one by the sounds of him. Many of you guys have been saying that we should make Hughes captain and I have challenged that in an earlier post, mainly because although I love Hughes I don't necessarily think he is captain material and I think giving him that responsibility might even affect his personal form. I also have said that maybe we need to bring in an experienced player from outside and make him captain, especially if Deeney is still with us as he might undermine someone who is already at the club being made captain over his head. Therefore although I don't know a lot about this guy Grimes, on paper he sounds like he might just be that experienced outside player we need to parachute straight in as captain. Furthermore, according to luton8a's post above he has all the attributes that Doucoure had in his one wonder season, plus apparently Grimes can actually pass the ball to his own team mates, unlike Doucoure, so he sounds like an ideal replacement for him too. All in all I quite like the sound of this guy because he possibly could answer those two needs for us, so it's a yes from me.
Judging by what I have read about him he looks a cracking signing. Just need one more bruiser in midfield and we will be fine.
