With all the crap we have bought from the Belgian super agent surely we’ve got enough loyalty stamps that we get The Donker for free with a plate of frites

True. It might be that Masina, Navarro and the guy from Stevenage will make a greater contribution than the household names signed by those 5. The last laugh may be ours.

We've all experienced that massive amounts of fees paid for players doesn't guarantee success.
It's going to be one of the most interesting starts to the Premier ever. One of those teams mentioned plus West ham and Everton are going to majorly **** up. Fingers crossed that it's the latter.

It makes it far more likely otherwise why don't we just sign someone from Newport rather than going for Alcacer ?

No I agree in principle in the singular.

You said that Huddersfield, Muff and Brighton had signed household names.

What is all this whining? We don't have megabucks owners, so we don't spend megabucks.

    Get a grip

We banked £40m from selling Richie. Has that been used?

Meh. There aren't many, if any, recent signings from those clubs who I suspect are noticeably better than what we already have. Dendoncker is one I'd like here though, I reckon he'd be a hit (and I was also a bit disappointed when Ake signed for Bournemouth). Other than those two, I'm not fussed.

We've probably 'banked' a lot less for that deal this summer.

Yes but similarly if we buy someone it wouldn't be 100% cash out of the door on day 1 either.

Well, OK. We got something, though. I'm just suggesting it is not all about the wealth of the owners - funds can be made available from other sources.

No, the pozzos have probably forgotten about it, lost it or spent it all on red wine. They are the only explanations as to why we haven't spent £15m since we sold richarlison a week ago.

I repeat, you can find money to spend on players without having to be a megabucks owner, so your original statement tells only part of the story.

I'd take Andone, Kongolo, Traore, Patricio, Mawson at the least. There are probably more.

They can. But £40m ain't megabucks in the current age. To fund transfers like Wolves or Fulham you literally need a billionaire owner with an open chequebook.

No, but you should be able to spend at least what you bring in as a minimum ?

Kongolo was class against us, to be fair. I didn't realise he'd signed for them so recently, I'd assumed he'd been with them for ages.
Andone looks decent, though I'd be slightly underwhelmed if he'd turned out to be our new main man (he'd have been better than nothing this window though).
Traore is good, but I expect will be equally as effective as Deulofeu (should Gerard stay fit).
I wouldn't take Mawson over our current first-choice CBs. So over-priced.
Patricio is probably a level above Foster, I'll accept that.

That's not really sustainable though is it? Even with Iggy and Rich's transfers, we've still spent far more than we've brought in since we've been in the Premiership. I'd say we're already at our limits in what we can reasonably go out and spend

    Yes, I agree with that.

Still, it's only human nature to compare with others, and that, combined with the fact that we haven't obviously reinvested those funds in anyone (yet) given concerns about specific positions offers some justification for 'griping', I think.

In one window we should be able to spenmd what we receive. We can (and must) run at a deficit overall which will be funded by the prem cash. If not we just accept we will be lfet behind and ultimately relegated. I can't believe that we cant afford to spend another £20m this window.

Nice idea but I'm afraid most of the contributors to this site are bordering on hysterical most of the time!

I really don't see how frustration at our lack of signings can be argued against as if it's oh so ridiculous.

No one is expecting us to go out and spend "mega bucks", but as a club entering their fourth consecutive season in the Premier League and a club that has been sensibly managed from a financial perspective, I think it's understandable that a section of fans are disappointed with our transfer business being so uneventful in a summer where we've also bought in huge money from a single sale.

We are in clear and desperate need of a striker and a centre back, and I think it's extremely poor that we are 24 hours out from the window closing and these areas have still been neglected. What exactly is the reasonable excuse for it, because I genuinely cannot think of one?

Even the sale of Amrabat covered the fees for Navarro, Sema and Wilmot, possibly Foster too.

Which is fine. As long as everyone accepts that Gracia has been given a bottom 5 squad this season and with our injury record we will likely get relegated.

The same people who think we shouldn’t invest as we are little Watford are the same people who think we’ve got a comfortable mid table squad. They also need to get a grip on reality as well.

Spot on. If anyone questions Pozzo transfer strategy the standard response is “get a grip. We can’t spend 50 million on players”. That’s not what people are suggesting FFS. 15 million on Dawson would do me fine.

Probably best we all just wait to see what we look like at 5pm tomorrow. I'm sure a lot will happen between now and then

Showing my age even more, I remember Jimmy Greaves going from Chelsea to Spurs for 99,000 because Spurs didn't want to create the precedent of being the first club to pay 100,000 for a player.

Questioning the clubs transfer policy and being ungrateful for what Gino etc have done for the club aren’t mutually exclusive.

I don't think it is ever as simple as adding up fees against outgoings; the main thing is cashflow, and if the club simply don't have the liquidity to buy 15-20mil players then we can't go asking our billionaire owner.

What this doesn't excuse is leaving things to the last minute and making pathetic offers that will never be accepted. In the winter window we spent the entire month negotiating for N'Dong, only for him to not make a single appearance. What a waste of time.

We're supposed to be 'shrewd' and 'ambitious', but penultimate day loan offers for Dawson hardly reflect that. What on earth was the deal with Rodwell too.

  34. It's not the frustration that is being argued againsr. It is the negativity that comes from whingeing as if the window closed two weeks ago, and the expression of fair concern for a players ability by slagging off a decent servant of the club, without an ounce of humour, as if they'd been shagging your misses.

Practically everyone of us will have sympathy for your sentiment, but find themselves arguing with you, and otbers, because of the unreasonable bull you heap on top of your reasonable concerns. In other words, they are equipped within themselves to deal with circumstances that are not ideal, while you take it out on the forum.

There. Another free psychoanlysis session for you. But you pretty much asked for it this time.

Why would we pay what they want for him? He's asked to be transfer listed, and they won't want an unhappy player sticking around.
