But exactly HOW effective is he... There's no question in my mind his control and touch is absolutely second to none, he wrong foots players with ease but I'm struggling to think of more than 1 assist, hitting the post once and 1 good through ball he's contributed all season in terms of productivity... When you think is is going to attack or beats his man he cuts back or goes down with ease....
I totally agree as well you can't watch the TV and make a full assessment of a player like you can in the flesh... For instance I watched Oulare the whole first half v Newcastle... Didn't take my eyes off him because I was generally interested in what his contribution was, and yes he got stuck in to a couple and tried to mix it.. But off camera I can tell you that lad does not do much moving, if any at all.. You don't pick up on camera the amount of times QSF told Guedioura to get the 'f' back in position and stop going forward or the fact that 'Bergius' despite how rubbish I think he is, is actually popular and respected amongst the players with clapping and positive comments being banded about on the pitch and by the bench !

Wasn't it Anya in a programme last season that said Fabbrini was the most talented player he's played with. Things he does in training is ridiculous!!

I was giving my opinion and venting my spleen. No 'big statement'. No claim to be making a 'proper judgement'. Just good, old-fashioned shouting at the telly (ok, computer screen) and then because of the Internet Age being able to get it off my chest here rather than stew in my own Ron Manager juices.

I'll be the first to post on Monday night to praise him if he plays and has a stormer.

He doesn't create goals for us and doesn't prevent goals for them. He's the most skillful player we've probably ever had, but the reason people are frustrated by him is because we/he don't seem to know how to harness that skill to its potential.

It was a poor performance by everyone at Southampton and we did well to get away with 0-2 as with decent finishing from Southampton it could easily have been 0-6.

    A couple of points on comments;
Yes all were bad, but Jurado seemed to me to be one of the worst and I do not understand why he was not substituted.
Some people have said Gomes was the only one who performed, how many times did he punch the ball away when it seemed easier to catch it and relieve the pressure?

Let’s hope that performance is out of the system and we return to playing well for the rest of the season.

Key word there is 'seemed' I think.

What we do know is that trying to catch the ball but failing causes even more pressure on the defence (see Arlauskis at Villa) and that Gomes himself punches more than any goalkeeper in the division. Complaining about it after he's been here for 18 months is pretty futile as it's a key part of his game. He won't change. I'm not convinced that punching, when executed well, is any less beneficial than catching the ball given our standard tactic is to look for the quick throw out anyway. And on the whole watching on a stream I thought his punching was fine on Wednesday. The trouble was the players in front of him not getting stuck in to win the free ball like they normally would.

You are right he does punch frequently and in a normal situation it is ok, but on Wednesday the rest of the team were poor and catching the ball more would have been the best thing to do. Watching it live there were definitely several occasions when he punched, under no pressure, when he could have caught the ball.

I not trying to criticise Gomes greatly, it was just a point in a frustrating night where a few assured catches would have shown some control by one of our players.

Went to the game. Watched the highlights. Don't understand why Jurado is being singled out.

Gomes aside, we played terrible and the worst we've been for a long time.

Watson looked shattered. Abdi - I was shocked to see him substituted because I didn't think he was playing. Prodl snd Britos were a mess and the moment I saw Cathcart out the team I was worried. Ighalo and Troy were battling but ineffective.

Jurado - no worse than any of these.

  18. Yes. But not playing in his position.

I really feel we need to give something else a chance. Give him a rest, because he does have something to offer, but consider something different for a while. Something a bit more effective.

Some people are very easily pleased

Yes he was 'involved' but every shot (bar one near the near the end) was miles off target and his consistently failed to pick out the strikers when he got the ball in the final third

For someone who is seemingly (and bizarrely) an ever present in the starting 11, he isn't showing anywhere near enough end product to justify it

    Ighalo, Watson, Capoue, Cathcart, Nyom.

    Deeney, Behrami debateable.

With that starting line-up tonight, why did Flores persist with 4-4-2? Surely it would have made far more sense to have Capoue, Behrami and Watson all in the middle and Jurado just in front. I don't understand the need to continually play so many players out of position.

  23. Harrow Orn

He was horrendously bad tonight. Did not challenge for the ball, misplaced passes and no conviction in his shooting.

Still the best player ever though, somehow.

    Piffle.

Was booked for a brutish challenge for the ball and threw himself in front of one or two blocks too. He's not a defender, but to say he didn't challenge for the ball is nonsense.

As far as misplaced passes are concerned, he was no worse than anyone else. And perhaps he had too much conviction with his shooting - he could have slipped Iggy in on one of them rather than blasting away. I really thought he was going to eventually bend one into the top corner. It'll come. I'm never going to criticise a player for having a pop on goal. Certainly nobody else was having any shots...

  27. Was bought in to play central in a 4231, which QSF threw in the bin because people lost patience with lack of goals, and has been shoved out wide out of position ever since

I'd be asking to leave if I were him

It's incredible that people pick Jurado out as the target for abuse after tonight's game. There were many starters who were far worse than him.

Was he vintage? No, but then considering hardly anyone was making runs or giving him options when he had the ball in their end I'm not sure what else he could have done.

Here are the facts...he cost £6million, meaning he is the joint most expensive player in Watford's history.
After six months he has neither created a goal or scored one - surely time to give someone else a chance.

Capoue and Jurado both cost £6m. Both haven't scored. Both have 1 assist. 2 for Jurado if you count Everton away.

    Stats eh

Well if we want to extend the nonsensical comparisons, that Gomes' assist record is pretty woeful

Midfield was disjointed tonight and the main man Flores needs to take some responsibility here. Capoue is our best player in midfield and he stuck him on the wing.

Jurado had a poor game. Couple of good chances which he dragged past the post then another couple where he shot when players were in better positions. Not a great night for him.
