Not going to commit myself on this chap until I have heard how long Relegation Certs has stayed at the next home match.
The thread isn’t about me. I’ve had my say in hopefully a fair and balanced way. It’s been good reading the opinions of people much closer to Spanish football than me. And good debating the merits of today’s developments. I’m always on board. Always have been, always will be. A supporter of 30 years and more. Always want us to win and succeed and flourish. Looking forward to Saturday. The Maltese Watford Supporters Club, of which I appear to be 50% lol, officially welcomes him to our club! Nice to have you posting again today too btw! Miss you around here.
That's because they are Watford through and through. It's sad but unsurprising the general level of footballing knowledge among pundits. It's all about sensationalist tittle tattle to fill airtime.
To be fair initially I was slightly apprehensive and underwhelmed by this appointment, but watching this video makes me think he is exactly what we need. He was known for getting results from the big teams because he spent the whole week planning for it and working out a way to get a result against them. That is something I’ve been crying out for in a manager and something Silva never did. He never thought about how to get a result from a game, especially when things were getting really dire. He just plodded on in the same stubborn way without any allowances for the players available and the opposition. Yes some of the early Football was entertaining, and no doubt this guy won’t be able to match that, but he’ll take the team into every game with a view to getting a result against that particular team.
Quick poll. Will Gracia's English in his exclusive welcome interview be: a) fluent; b) ok but over-reliant on stock phrases (e.g. amazing, in this moment) c) mostly mangled gibberish but with the occasional inspirational nugget (football is for men, not for pussies) d) written down phonetically for him to read off a board without the first idea what it means (ayy chews dis club because ayy laik asisraan)
Interestingly our relegation odds have got longer after today's events, despite the gap to the relegation zone dropping from 5pts to 4pts. We were 10/1 this morning when I looked. That was before Silva was binned. Now 11/1. Seems the market backs the move when I thought people might have lumped on us a bit.
The decimal point was sarcastic & intentional. Knowing GP its stated outwardly as 18 months..but will likely have a break clause at the end of this season. Understandable. I would not swap the Pozzo's, they have done so much for us, but I genuinely can't fathom how we can ever have a stable management structure with the P model. We are never going to appoint an Eddie Howe/Sean Dyche 'loyal type/home grown' character. It will probably always be some sort of outcast/unheard off foreign appointment that understands & respects (aka concedes) they might only be able to choose 1 out of 5 players signed. We should open a thread on this subject as it never really gets discussed.
Very happy with this, glad we have sacked Silva and this guy looks like a solid replacement! Good luck Javi
https://twitter.com/WatfordFC/status/955156809236455424 "The fans are the number one" Wow! I like the sound of this guy, he really appreciates us!!
I've never clicked my update so much as I have done today. My finger has a blister!! Anyway......here's his first Watford interview. https://twitter.com/twitter/statuses/955156809236455424
Everton Football Club please take note. There's no need to try poach a coach (i'm a poet & i didnt know it!) that's currently employed AND you can get the job done on the very day you let the other bloke go. Different Gravy (Javi)
I agree that there are many elements of the "Pozzo model" which I'd prefer not to have. Constant churn being one of them. However, given the size of our club, the compromise is more than paid off by the punching above our weight that the Pozzos are allowing us to do. I think Gino is learning and adapting, but I don't think he changed anything lightly. The Pozzos are not above criticism imo, but they're still the best thing to happen to us since a pop star in the late 70s.
Struggling to contain my excitement at the prospect of hearing Jon Marks ask - "So Javi... why Watford?"
We've had one for the last five and a half years. The only blips have been when the head coach has been allowed too much of a say and been allowed to bring in too many of their own players, like Quique signing Suarez and Amrabat.
I have read, seen and heard a lot of opinions today and I would go further Travis and say MOST trained observers have backed the decision and furthermore have been very critical of Silva. I do not follow the moronic world of twitter as it is populated by such halfwits as you mention.
Without doubt he is a big gamble. But anyone would be at this stage in the season. It may not work but it's better than staying with what we had and I can't think of a good option amongst those currently unemployed with prem experience ?
I guess you know what I meant in terms of appointments not 'structure' per se. I've just done a quick search on managerial appointmets @ Udinese & Granada during Pozzo ownership (interesting I didn't know Roy Hodgson managed Udin briefly in 2001) With Udin since 1986 there looks only to be about 5 managers in '32 years'' that lasted between 1-3 years (roughly didn't count precisely) the rest are 1 yr or even 2 in a year managerial appointments. With Granada I only say 1 year appointments only & some 2 appointments in a year since their ownership & club disposal. This is what we all have to get used to.
Welcome to Watford Javi. Got to say things with Silva had really begun to stagnate over the last couple of months, and whilst I initially was desperate to see him turn things around and get us back to the performances witnessed earlier in the campaign at Southampton, Bournemouth etc, the last couple of weeks had just about been the final straw. Went up to Leicester yesterday and frankly don't remember feeling less enthused about a game in a long time. Hopefully a bit of re-organisation under Gracia and his team will see us move further away from the trouble we have been dragged towards. I'm personally also looking forward to being able to look forward to a game again!
How the heck does he know already what the fans are like? Unless the Pozzos are kind enough to equip our basement dungeon with a TV that streams the matches for all the unfortunates...
That's quite amusing moog as you have been first to call for the coach or manager to be sacked going back at least to Lewington.
Welcome Javi. Two pieces of advice; Don't mumble,it doesn't matter if you mispronounce worms! Hide your watch. Good luck!
