Wages. We have to sell them because PL TV money currently makes up 84% of our revenue.

Don't we get our parachute payments for three years if we go down, surely we could use that?

  4. simpleMASH

It won’t be enough. Parachute payments over those 3 years pay about 55%, 45% then 20% respectively of the base TV money that all clubs are guaranteed from being in the PL (I think about £80m). This is still a significant advantage over other Championship clubs, who will only get £5m TV money per season, but given the lack of other revenue a small club like ours makes (especially with the effects of Covid still being felt) we’re going to have to halve our wage bill in just 6 weeks.
Some players will have relegation clauses I’m sure but most high earners will have to be moved on.

Agreed. Also there is the small matter of requiring cash to meet our commitments on outstanding transfer fees-£50m (as at June 19) and that we also owe £70m on a loan to an unconnected third party- its possible but i doubt if the terms of that loan say the loan can continue even though you are now outside PL with reducing revenue (parachute money) to pay it back.

So Everton were perfectly well behaved over Silva and we were the problem? I get the fact that you hate the Pozzos but sometimes revisionist history can be taken a bit far in order to fit the script.

As I said, when it's just Everton, it's plausible, when the list is ever growing, we need to look closer to home for the issues.

You can see him going to someone like Everton or Spam, who would probably meet our valuation. He would be a bench player at Liverpool

They won’t get anywhere near our valuation now Ake has just been sold for £41mil. Man city have done us a massive favour with that bid.

Based on that price that Man City have set, then Doucoure is worth at £35mil and Sarr worth £60mil. On top of that, Gino will fleece Everton an extra £5-10mil.

Spam just paid £22mil for Bowen for their right-wing spot in Jan and he's been doing pretty well for them, so they won't be about to splash out another hefty fee for Sarr.

Everton currently have £30mil (lol) summer signing Iwobi starting for them on the right wing as well. They also have Walcott on the bench. Left-wing would be more of a priority for them, unless they decide to switch Iwobi over to the other side. Doucoure would still make more sense for them if they were to come in for one of our players.

The only PL clubs at the mo where Sarr might be a starter and who could spend the money are probably Leicester (though they'd need to bench £30mil summer signing Perez), and Wolves if they sold Traore.

With Richarlison wanting out of that tin pot club, I can’t imagine Sarr wanting to play for them.

Everton fans crack me up. They literally think they are one of the big boys, when in reality they are more like Burnley. Just in the Prem to make up the numbers. They won’t be winning anything anytime soon. Relegation is more realistic for them than a trophy or European spot.

How they have spent £600mil in the past 5/6 seasons to end up with the squad they have is embarrassing.

Everton isn’t a step up from Watford anymore, it’s a sideways move.

As much as I'd love for that to be the case, need I remind you that we did just get relegated.

Last summer it might have appeared true, and if the club makes some good decisions it could be close again in a season or two, but right now no.

If social media is anything to go by, then yes. They are talking like they have already signed Doucoure and Sarr.

Same old usual comments of, your desperate for money, we take who we want, you’re our feeder club. We won’t pay £40mil+ for Sarr, we will pay £25mil and you will accept it and so on and so on.

    I think
I think they sold Richarlison the bollox that they would be in Europe and winning trophies and then they finish in the bottom half. I am not surprised one bit that he wants out when I have watched him recently his body language has looked like he does not have a care in the World. There were a few rumours knocking about that we had a sell on clause, that would be a nice little bonus. However I doubt he wants to leave as he grew up dreaming of playing for Everton

Oh yeah for sure, plus paying him a ton of money.

Everton really are a nothing club, and have been for years. He went there because of Marco Silva, a false dream and money. Ancelotti is a hasbeen manager.

Everton fans need to get use to finishing in the bottom half of the table in the Prem.

Man City, Utd, Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Wolves, Leicester are all better than for starters. Now throw Leeds back in the mix, whom I’m sure will stay up for a while.

Then the likes of Southampton and Burnley who are much better run clubs than Everton, really puts Everton in their place.

They will be a team that finishes between 10th-14th every season.

It must be so dull being an Everton fan. Never challenge for the title or even Champions League, never get to cup finals, never really look like getting relegated... And always in the shadow of their neighbours.

They are obviously a top ten club.

They are, but it'll be a hell of a job to get them to Europe, Wolves, Leicester and the 'traditional' top 6 are all miles ahead of them. Years of spending on crap in their 'nouveau riche' period has left them a lot to do to catch up...

Not anymore. Historically sure. Recently not really. Scraping the barrel calling them top 10.

Last 6 seasons they have finished half in the top 10 and half in the bottom 10.

If the were are top 10 team, they would consistently finish in the top ten. They haven’t done that for 6 seasons now.

They are so far behind the likes of the clubs I previously mentioned. They are and will continue to slide down the table. The best they can hope for is finishing 10th. Most likely though, they have just as much chance finishing in the bottom half of the table as they do the top.

They are a very Avg side with very avg players. Spent over £600mil on players to end up finishing mid to lower half of the table.

They are an extremely poor Premier League Team. If they keep going the way they are, it won’t be long before they are relegated.

Pie in the sky but this is why it’s a shame we don’t have something more like the salary cap and player franchise system I mentioned in another thread.

Everton repeatedly pay at and above market value for players at the peak of their worth, under such a system Everton would finish bottom every year. A terribly run club with pots of money but not a clue what to do with it.

I think different. Under Ancelotti I’d expect them to finish above Wolves, Burnley, Southampton and Leicester next season.

Wolves definitely not, Leicester and Southampton probably not as they are two teams on the up (despite Leicester's awful form this year), Burnley might have hit a wall

Haha. Love the fact a bunch of people are bantering Everton when we have had a year of being beyond pathetic, they did the double over us and have Richarlison who was better than any attacker we had this season.

  29. lowerrous

Leicester should still finish ahead of Everton next season, but I'm not sure they're a team "on the up". Not only have they been dreadful this year, but they are still very reliant on Vardy for goals, and given his age, reliance on pace and work-rate, and the drought he went on this year, they're bound to dry up more regularly from next season or the season after.

Somehow replacing him will be a huge challenge for them.

Only Ings (43%) and Auba (39%) have scored a higher percentage of their team's goals than Vardy (34%).

edit: Ings might be a good buy for Leicester actually when they need a Vardy replacement.

Ancelotti will be gone by Jan as Everton enter their usual mid season realisation that they messed up another chance to challenge the top 6.

I think that is a reasonable assumption. For me Rogers is not adding much to Leicester but Ancelloti adds a lot to Everton. Post lockdown results of course make this less transparent. I think Wolves will struggle to maintain momentum next season. I can see Arsenal resurgent under Arteta, (if they sort out their shambolic defence).

Sarr, Doucoure, Richarlison - are they going to be targets for Liverpool, City, Chelsea, Utd? I doubt it - Arsenal, Everton maybe interested as may at a pinch Leicester (but do they have the money). Can’t think of another.

So if we want top dollar for them, it will be Italy, or an Everton/Arsenal for a summer sale. I think part of our appeal to young talented players and their agents the appeal to young is that we put them in the window for a bigger club to buy. As an aside I think Richarlison is a better player than Sarr.

I think Sarr had a better first seasons than Richarlison, who went for £50m. I still don’t see Liverpool being a good move for Sarr, as he would be on the bench. Wouldn’t be surprised if he went to a team outside the top 6

Well this thread has taken a turn lol. FWIW, Sarr certainly had a much better season with us than Richarlison, I get that there was upheaval in Richarlison's season here, and he was running on fumes by the time his dad left, but Sarr didn't have it easy neither. Sarr's going all the way to the top, pretty sure he'll end up as a better player
