Domingos Quina scored for Portugal U-20s today vs. Italy in a 2-1 win.

And what a goal it was, pretty much identical to his goal in the cup.

Pereyra went up against Richarlsion last night, 1-0 to Brazil.

Cucho with two on debut for the full Colombia national team, one with his first touch after 30 seconds! Please let's get it right with him.

He's going to be touch and go to get a work permit automatically next summer still I think. He'd have had to have played 45% of Colombia's games in the year before his application. Say we apply in July - they've played 5 times so far since 1 July 2018, so he's at 20% now. Luckily they seem to only have friendlies until next summer, so hopefully won't be shy about putting him on the pitch. Can't imagine they'll play again until Feb or March now though so he's going to have to pretty much appear in every game from then until the summer.

I don't think he scores enough points by virtue of a season at Huesca in La Liga to qualify as an exceptional talent.

    Are you Mark Lawrenson?

So it's official. Cucho is the Pozzo's next Alexis Sanchez.

    Edit: Perhaps even surpassing that

Maybe, but I think there’s an argument to say that Richarlison and Foyth (Spurs) got WP’s and they had played no senior internationals or football in Europe at all. I know you have to draw the line somewhere as regards to ‘exceptional talent’ but this lad has played a full season in Spain and likely a second full season in La Liga by the time we apply. He will likely have played (and maybe scored) in more internationals by that time too. I’d say by that stage he qualifies under any circumstances more than the above 2 mentioned names.

If this season keeps progressing this way for him, I’d be very surprised if we failed to get him here (if we try to that is).

The exceptional talent thing is a points-based system. Richarlison's relatively high transfer contributed a lot to his cause and Foyth wasn't cheap either.

Of course, what I forgot when I wrote my earlier post was the Spanish citizenship backdoor we're no doubt aiming at by loaning him to Huesca.

As long as he doesn’t get his mate Adalberto to help him fill out the paperwork, the Spanish citizenship route has got to be a solid option.

Italian firemen unimpressed by Quina's goal.

He won’t get a permit if he can’t perfect a sliding knees celebration - wimping out won’t cut the mustard.

    Chalobah ‘dropped’ by England.

Have to say I’m pleased with that. Sure he’ll be disappointed but he really needs to work on getting/staying fully fit and cementing a place in our team first.

Although why Southgate persists with calling up 4 GK’s as well as Rooney, is just baffling.

To be fair Callum Wilson has earned that. Hope he has a complete stinker though.

Good call from Southgate that one. Effectively 1-0 up in both games with a penalty.

With Rooney to take it as a last match send off.

I notice not only has Chalobah been dropped (probably been told he has to play and impress) but also Mount and Maddison have been dumped too.

Southgate may not looking to the future so much in this selection?

Also could the clubs have said "no" - so not risking their players in the ultimate of pointless friendlies...

A nice thought, but I would think it more of a ‘discussion of views’ rather than a club just being able to say ‘no’.

In the case of Chalobah, it’s just common sense for once. I’m glad he got his debut and have no doubt he’s an England international of the future on a regular basis. But he should not have been in that last squad and hasn’t kicked a ball since. Southgate has probably sent a courtesy text or made a call but he can’t have been seriously considered for this squad whatsoever.

The Croatia game isn't a friendly. If England want to call up a player their club can't stop them.

Fair enough - I just seen that it's a Nations League thingy so it's really, really important...

Phew, with no Chalobah in the squad, I don't have to waste my precious time pretending to be interested in this band of losers.

Okay, for the slightly more pedantic amongst us....

Hasn’t made a meaningful touch for us since. In the 5 minutes he has played since the last international call-up’s.

    Better?

    It was exactly 5 mins.

For which he was rated a highly specific 5.98.

  28. Not really - it was eleven minutes, not five. And that was more league action than he had seen before being called up for his first cap...;)

    That’s some top pedantry!

It probably dawned on Southgate that Chalobah is actually a Watford player, not on loan from Chelsea or something. Once he realised, he’s out on his ear.

Good performance by Craig last night against ROI but he won't have many easier games than that!

Doesn't say much for the Republic that they were outplayed by you guys in their own backyard.

Will they ever learn to attack again under O'Neil and Keane?

Why we gave O'Neill a new contract I'll never understand. No plan at all. Atrocious football to have to sit through.
