Not a chance for Sky. He would need an iota of personality for that. He would however be perfect for the BBC !

When I heard Vertonghen was out with a hamstring, I was hoping Kabs would get the nod. Another player getting a call up to a top nation (Pereyra and Chalobah) on the back of our good start. Well done to him.

I don't know about other countries, but it seems like the England manager is treating the shiny new UEFA Nations League as though it were the League Cup: "Give the youngsters a game!"

    In short, it's UEFA NL.

    Uncomfortably adjacent to Youth An*l.

Cathcart and Prodl will be facing each other too (I'll be there too!)

Spot on again HB1. The FA with that decision on academies destroyed (or at least reduced) the seedcorn of young English talent. It was all to benefit the big boys. They are complete bunch of hypocrites. Now they are belatedly pumping money in at grass-roots, changing the rules on loaning out vast numbers of players and handing out tapping up young player embargoes. All rather too late. Some will get through but how many young players are now given enough time for solid development? The Pozzo model does appear slightly different but most clubs do involve themselves to ensure they don't drop even further behind. The smaller clubs no longer get adequate compensation when a youth player is literally stolen. Where's the incentive to effectively do the developent for the benefit of another bigger or rival club. Thank you again football regulators!

Pereyra (substituted on at half time) scores assisted by Dybala. 2-0 against Iraq.

I imagine Bobby P’s haircut is illegal there.

Hopefully he’s had the chance to chat to long term wannabe Horn, Vazquez F.

It is a hilarious thread. This is why Bobby P didn't do daddy shark, it would have been like doing an impression of a pig. Or a squid. Or a lobster. But not, for some reason, a prawn. They're OK.

Prodl looked like a flat footed klutz in the Northern Ireland highlights. The sooner we can pack him off the better.

  23. Interesting list - they claim carp to be 'halal seafood', but it's not from the sea - it's a freshwater fish. Barramundi must really cause arguments in their kitchens - it can be both sea and freshwater.

  24. Penaranda played for Venezuela but couldn't stop his team from losing 4-2 to Basque Country, who, I must admit, I never realised had an international team.
Interestingly, Venezuela's second goal was scored by A Ponce who plays for Russian side Anzhi. Fortunately for him the Russians don't appear to know English slang...

Little chance of Peneranda getting a work permit if they can't beat 'Basque Country'. Must have been a scratch team of La Liga players from NW Spain? More significant is the possibility of Chalobah getting onto the pitch at some point with England next week. Henderson I believe is suspended. Southgate knows that Dier is solid but slow and limited. He desperately needs players in the holding/ creative role in midfield like Nat. Barclay hasn't got the vision or maturity. Although we were surprised Nat was called up ahead of Hughes the latter was never going to get in ahead of Maddison or Lingard/ Ali if fit. Southgate has many more options with advanced midfielders/ support strikers and wingers.

Southgate’s comments that Chalobah is a quality player who has lacked fitness, but is in there to train with the squad makes me believe he wants to intergrate him as early as possible into the squad as a regular but these games have come too quick for him to play.

You are probably right. Chalobah has had no mention in the press so the briefings are along the lines you suggest. It is possible he could make the subs bench and come on at the end of the match. Spain are not known for kicking players up in the air so would be a low risk option. I fully expect England to lose this match 3 - 1, albeit hopefully continuing to be progressive.

Yeah he did. Made a tackle and I'm pretty sure it was him who did the overhead kick clearance after they hit the bar near the end.

Be funny if he plays a few games now and doesn't get picked..not that long till the next set of International games.

I mean what if Chalobah did play on Saturday and had a mare.

Well done to England. We were lucky at Wembley to win, so you deserved this tonight. On another night we would have scored 8, but it's was one of those days in front of goal where nothing would go in.

I've never seen England quite so clinical in front of goal before. Three shots and three very good goals.

Pickford looked like a bag of nerves though. I hope he's that bad when we play Everton.

Alcacer can't stop scoring. He's such a good player. Well done to Chalobah as well. Didn't do a lot, apart from a bicycle kick clearance, but at least he has an England cap to his name now.

Cathcart has been pretty poor recently for club and country, hopefully improves before this weekend!
