True. Nani will have to get out his little black book and find us another wantaway moody continental type to stink out games from the bench.

Unsurprising. Perhaps we'll make a move for Ben Whiteman whose contract is up in the summer.

    1) Stalled over new Preston contract so presumably £s.
    2) We're in London innit.
    3) He's a massive Harry Potter fan.

Yes I guess I was saying I doubt we can afford to pay more than his current club can. However I forgot the Harry Potter ace in the pack.

We never really played his position, not many English teams do. I thought he'd be out on loan after 6 months. Needs to find an environment that suits him, we're clearly going down the route of physical midfielders. I definitely think we need to add one without Kayembe. TDB isn't the answer.

Personally, I think there's something going on with Louza that we don't know about - physically or mentally. He came bursting back from injury early last season, but after the second injury he's been a shadow of himself. I don't really buy the theory that he's just sulking to force a move, because his career is crumbling in the process. He's out of AFCON, out of the Watford first XI, has four and a half years left of his contract and few - if any - teams will be interested in him. For him, the situation is pretty dire.

I wonder if the last injury, missing the World Cup and seeing Morocco do so well was too big a blow for him. We don't know what's going on, but ultimately VI has failed to get the best out of him and that's a shame because Imran Louza at his best is a real asset that could have made a huge difference in the Championship. As things stand, a loan to France in the hope that he regains some market value is probably a good idea for all parties.

Great Post. I'm always wary when people jump in with character assassination and name calling of our players whose sole crime is to be out of form. There could be all sorts of reasons for his current form and its not inconceivable for footballers to be affected by confidence or mental health related issues just like anyone else.

It is a shame. I remember that dire defeat to Millwall when he got injured and he seemed to be the one player who was really trying albeit he wasn't on for long. If I recall he got injured energetically chasing back and defending but I may have that wrong.

Sometimes the obvious answer is the correct one. He signed for a PL team and then swiftly found himself in the championship with a badly timed injury preventing him from jumping ship before it happened. He’s a on a long, relatively comfortable contract, he’s not the first and definitely won’t be the last player to phone it in under the circumstances, surely we’ve had enough of those type of player in recent seasons for people to understand that.

If he had some secret injury he wouldn’t be playing, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, more often than not it’s just a duck, we don’t need to try and make up highly convoluted reasons for the guy being utter shyte.

There is a part of me which feels very sorry for him, even disregarding relegation (which was a very real possibility when we signed him), he had two major injuries and missed out on the tournament of a lifetime with Morocco. Still, he only has himself to blame for not knuckling down and getting into their AFCON squad, it's not even as if he was bad last season, once we played him in his proper position he was good

I definitely feel sorry for him with regards to the injuries, and I’m sure he hoped we might stay up, even then he might have fancied a move away but the injury stopped that. But I think what we’re seeing now is no great conspiracy theory, he just doesn’t want to be here and doesn’t want to be playing in the championship. Some players will try to play their way out of the situation, but some will do the opposite (Sarr as an example) I don’t think it’s any more deep that that and we don’t need to be scrambling around finding excuses for the guy when the explanation is just fairly obvious.

If the reasons behind his performances are mental, then the explanation is the same, he just can’t be arsed, that’s his mental state.

I really don't understand why players do this..... beyond being thick.

If you give everything then, at the worst, you will show potential buyers your ability and that you have the right mental attitude. Who knows, you might even get your current club back into the PL.

Downing tools must seriously reduce the number and quality of the teams that are going to be interesting in buying you.

That wages report estimated he’s on about £32k p/w (may or may not be accurate but it won’t be far off) and he has 4.5 years left in his deal, so unfortunately it’s the prospect of a guaranteed £7.5m that probably creates the complacency and lack of desire to push themselves for a move. It takes a lot of effort to become a pro at any sport, but unfortunately once some of them ‘make it’ the desire and effort goes.

    Yes, you are obviously right.

I still don't get why someone would put all that effort in to become a professional just to give it all away though.

That ambition to be the best, to have domestic and international success must still be in there.... surely.

I guess, like most people on this forum, I would have given anything to have become a professional footballer. It's difficult to understand why someone who has the talent to be a top player just doesn't want to play and be the best he can.

I would put all that effort in, but once I had a guaranteed £7.5m coming in I might find better things to do, particularly having the cash to do them.

I guess so but I would have thought most footballers want to play. I know I did and I did it for nothing!

Besides, you're a long time retired as a professional footballer. Plenty of time to spend all that money while you're still relatively young and healthy.

A lot of players dont like football for some reason but recognise they have a skill and can make a few quid so carry on. If you are in that mindset then if you have made enough money you lose interest I imagine. If you have been doing the same thing since you were 9-10 years old and gone through the football machine then I can see why people get bored/sick of it even with all the benefits it brings.
