You've misinterpreted me I think. I'm not saying Chair is going to be in the same price bracket as Eze, I was responding to a comment saying we should instead be interested in players of Eze's level. I don't think we can afford players at that level, so I'm all for signing someone like Chair and hoping he can raise his level in a better side.
Yeah for sure - if Danjuma was available for a decent fee - he would be a risk worth taking. Him and Sarr on opposite flanks would certainly terrify full backs. I don't think even an "in form" Harry Wilson is PL quality. If he wasn't on loan from Liverpool I am not sure people would even be talking about him. He is a BTec Gylfi Siggurdson - decent over a dead ball but offers **** all else.
All dependent on Chairs preferred position because I take Sema, Zinc and JP as more front three players. Ok Zinckernagel has had to drop in at midfield but it's not a position I believe he's best suited.
Chair is either a left-winger/left-forward, or a #10 - Sema, JP and Zinc are who of our current squad he'd be competing with (also Clevs for the #10 role).
We shouldn't be looking to sign a player who might be a bit better than what we've got. We need some players who are a lot better. And of course I'm taking about up front rather than midfield.
As a 10 maybe if he's strong enough. But I want JP making the left forward position his own. Zinc and Sema as cover for left and right side.
LOL. Of course not. But if we're buying players, frees or loaning I want them considerably better than what we have now. Centrally is the must up top, a Doucoure type replacement, CB and LB are the essential positions imo. I'd be astonished if we bought in a left sided forward before those positions.
If Young does come in, I'd have thought Young, Sema, JP (and Cucho?) is probably fine for the left hand side. None of them are world beaters, and will need replacing over time if we stay up (unless JP kicks on) but I think there are probably areas the money can be better spent like the full new set of strikers we need.
I agree with the first line, hence why I don't think Chair makes sense. Splitting hairs maybe on the last points, but I reckon Masina is more likely to be trusted to start at LB next season than either Sema or JP are to be our starting LW.
Chair has a higher xA this season than Eze did last season, only reason Chair doesn’t have more assists is because his teammates were missing sitters
Chair is pretty decent and could play as a ball progressing number 8 or out at left mid. He would be a solid addition but he just extended his contract and I don’t think he has sufficient quality to justify us laying out £10m+ for him.
Yeah - I do like him as a player but can't help but feel there are a number of areas that kind of money could be better spent.
I don’t have that much of an issue of us spending a fair chunk on a ball progressing, creative attacking midfielder. But if we’re spending £10m+, there’ll be better options out there.
Like Olise who has an £8mil release clause. Granted we won’t sign him, he will go to a more established Prem team than us.
Yeah he would be pretty near the top of my shopping list of players. Depends what he wants - I don't imagine many would be able to offer the same chance of regular football.
Yup. If we’re signing a young championship attacking midfielder for £8-12m, Olise has to be the one. Hard to tell where he might want to go, as he’ll have his pick of suitors, but if he doesn’t want to move far and wants 30+ starts, we’re a compelling option.
Personally think Olise is the type of player Spurs like to sign only to not really play. I’d be shocked if a few Bundesliga clubs aren’t interest in him too - a few young English players have taken that pathway successfully.
I’m aware how/where he plays. I think you’re slightly mistaken. He can play as an 8, or a 10, or as a left winger. He’s pretty versatile. He would probably play either on the left or as one of the more advanced midfielders in our 4-3-3. In the last few weeks he has generally played with Johansen and Willock in QPR’s midfield, with Willock generally the most advanced of the three.
Given our financial situation, this might not be a bad shout. This sort of player could blossom under a manager like Munoz, especially when playing with the likes of Sarr and Pedro who can actually receive a ball on the move.
If we are in for him, I hope we get to experience the better days of his career. Don’t need another forward on the recline.
The Athletic seem to have got their wires crossed on this one, he is of course going to Wycombe, not Watford.
