Exactly. I think some people don't understand the unique situation players find themselves in with the Pozzo Universe.

If they don't perform well enough to keep Watford in the PL and don't fancy playing in a league below them (despite the fact the team get relegated) either they can request a move and refuse to be involved and if (and only if) no one wants them, we can send them to another team in the top league in Italy!

If that doesn't give a player that extra motivation and extra effort to play well for their current team, I don't know what would.

You forget the option where if you are either totally unprofessional or old and injured and you are rewarded with a long term deal by the club.

I think we’re all overlooking the real comedy of this transfer, which is that having joined Watford and displaced Pereyra from the starting XI, Deulofeu’s now following him to Udinese, so Pereyra can’t get a game there either. Top work Mr Pozzo.

  7. Hogg-DEENEY!!!

Surely Pereyra is better suited to playing attacking mid anyway? Either that or Deulofeu would play on the right wing?

Wonder if there's a way they can play Bobby, Geri and De Paul in a midfield 3.

Remember when I insisted that there was absolutely zero chance, under any circumstances, that Deulofeu would play in the Championship?

He was absolutely never going to play for us, but I didn't think we would be loaning him to Udinese.

£40m for a player who hasn't played for months and is very possibly not the same player after a huge injury, a player who hasn't played well in over a year and Nacho Pussetto. Lol

No other team wanted these players for anything other than bargain bin prices or on loan, so what exactly do you suggest we do with them? They clearly don't want to be here, so may as well use the Udinese link to our advantage.

Does seem a bit odd - They'll have Geri, Bobby P, Pussetto, De Paul - how do you fit these into a first 11?

  16. Burnsy

You pick Deulofeu, Pereyra and De Paul and you sit Pussetto on the sidelines. Easy.

    It's just a loan, he'll be back.

You're right though, it could be in League 1 rather than the championship.

  18. Cude>2<

That's why I don't get why Pussetto has gone there on loan.

He could sit on our bench couldn't he? Not that i'm fussed either way

Presume we will get something for him if we don't go up next summer ?

If GD does go to Udinese on loan, the argument that no team would take a risk on GD while he was still injured has more or less been proven to be right, but the other side of the argument that he would not play in the Championship for us has also more or less been proven to be right for now.

However, if he does go on loan that means he will still be a WFC player and as we do not know yet how long or under what the conditions the loan is, there might be a case that he can be called back sooner rather than later, which means he could still play for us in the Championship, or god forbid even next season.

All in all as there were obviously no takers at the price we wanted, loaning him to Udinese gives us the chance to live and fight another day, and either get a decent price for him, or maybe even bring him back in house at some point.

Finally IMO as for our internal forum argument regarding whether GD ever plays for us again, there should not be one side or the other claiming to be in the right at this stage, therefore the argument should be declared a draw, at least for now.

You also said he'd be healed by September and sold off, neither of which has happened.

I said he'd never play in the Championship. He's not playing in the Championship.

It's October 5th and he's finished his rehab and is ready to return to training.

I'd say I did pretty well.

In the non-Pozzo universe they either sit and get paid (like Ozil, Bale, etc.) or have a sulk and get sold for a small fee - from which they STILL get a payoff (as does their agent), they keep their wages and life goes on. They have all the power and the clubs are *&^%ed. In the Pozzo universe we at least have some possibility of retaining them as assets until the market is better. That doesn't help us win games with them, but it keeps us further away from financial ruin. The Pozzos certainly make mistakes, but some fans seem to think that there's a "get tough and compel them" option. There simply isn't - not for players on any sort of big contract. They players have all the power and it's a result of the the transfer rules and the way agents get compensated. If the players paid the agents themselves out of their wages, 75% of this nonsense stops.

Sorry you might have missed earlier in the thread, because of this move he's unlikely to play til late December apparently. I'm not sure if that's because of the move or not?

Hearing from my sources that Udinese plan to loan Geri back to us before the deadline tonight.

Classic triple-reverse loan move from Gino.

Will be disappointed to not see he him this season, but I can't blame him for not wanting to play in the championship. He was much better than us in the premier league, and I always felt he was slumming it.

    Goodbye sweet prince......until next season!

When does a football club of our size ever not need the 20m that Geri could bring?

We aren't going up if we sell/loan all our best players and replace them with Murray and Perica types.

No I agree. But I really doubt we are sending him to Udinese in the face of a £20m offer from elsewhere.

Is it just me or did this bloke fail to deliver far more times than he made me think he was a great player

Thought most of the time he walked around the pitch sulking. Playing in the EFL would only make him worse

Same as Pereya, when he could be bothered he was amazing. Pearson did seem to be getting the best out of him though until the injury.

Comfortably the best attacking player we have had in god knows how long.

He was not consistent, but almost everything good in an attacking sense went through him, and the second he got injured we looked pathetic.

He was prone to getting frustrated, but I can't blame him as he probably just got fed up that he was surrounded by absolute cloggers.

I'd have him in a heartbeat over a bunch of the fan favorites who try hard but have absolutely no talent.
