That Deeney podcast is really good. Louis Theroux knows absolutely nothing about football so it was a bit awkward to start with but they quickly got onto the topic of money, violence, family, Troy’s upbringing and ended with his thoughts on gay footballers.

It’s probably all stuff you’ve heard before in one form or another but I enjoyed the way he dealt with Louis prodding him.

Just a shame Watford didn’t let him join a proper club back in 2016 ;)

An interesting listen and WFC not mentioned.

And Deeney didn’t need to move to be at a real proper class club - even the proper Lesta fans like Daniel, Bert and Mickey thought so ..

Daniel Hall : "Thank you to the Watford fans for the amazing tribute you paid to Vichai. A top quality club!"
Bert : "Thank you to the Watford fans, top class."
Micky : "Absolute class from Watford fans. Thank you."
    :);)

It’s poor Walsall I feel for - now been waiting for that juicy sell on fee for the last 10 years ..

I think that fact that Deeney is so eloquent and forthcoming with his story says something about what a good club Watford is. For Watford to stand by him and for him not only repay the club with goals and success but to go on to be a positive role model in many aspects of life is quite inspiring really.

That’s how it looks to me from the outside. A lot like Vardy in many ways, guys that came up without having easy starts in life or being blessed with huge amounts of natural talent. I really like what Deeney has had to say on the topic of earning his money.

I always thought Vardy looks like a world class striker in a Leicester shirt

I agree, the bloke is a force of nature and still somehow underrated in my opinion. Apart from being incredibly quick I’d put most of his success down to his aggression, tenacity and intelligence which can’t be trained and are things I see in Deeney too.

And Vardy has had chances to move on I believe?
Interesting Deeney saying he’s not earning as much as people and sources speculate. Under £60k pw I think he said in the podcast.
    Vardy on double that?

Going back to the title of this thread.

Doesn’t Troy literally say that about every manager he’s worked under?

Yes he turned Arsenal down the summer after we won the league and has had two new contracts since. I think he’s on at least £100k a week now so that should be enough to keep him stocked with skittles and red bull for the foreseeable future.

Why do I keep 'remembering' "...port and lucozade in a drinks bottle..." when I see him?

Yep port in a squirty lucozade bottle as part of his matchday -1 routine.

Where did he secrete the Stilton and pickled walnuts?

I wouldn’t be at all surprised to hear that he has a cigar and a wafer thin mint in the dressing room to be honest.
