If you'd had been there, you'd have seen the many many more times he won the header against Lukaku and Kone. Or the countless interceptions. Or the calm passing out of defence. Or the block and clearance on the line. To give some perspective, we have gone from our defence handling Matt Smith and Dexter Blackstock ........ To handling Lukaku, Mirallas, Barkley, Kone. Huge step up and we looked more solid than ever (ironic when conceding 2!)
Well I'm blown away: How easy it is to find a stream when you're sitting on your hotel balcony How a new Head Coach so effortlessly fits in How the new players all gelled and worked tirelessly for the cause How we matched an established Premiership team....away from home How our support has gone from a bunch of library goers to a finely tuned choir How I truly believe, after only one game, that we will avoid the drop..infact, I truly believe that we will fast become an established Premiership team I haven't felt this excited about football since I witnessed Zolas style of play
If I'm honest I was gutted we conceded, however yesterday was hot and in that decrepit stand it was difficult to breathe and I could see some of the players strating to tire because of the pressing game, several were stretching hamstrings and calves towards the end. Had that been a few games in, we wouldn't have conceded I'm convinced of that.
We conceded a lot of late goals in our last two Prem seasons. Hope this trend won't continue. But much better to concede when trying to hang on for a win than when hanging on for a draw. Very encouraging performance. Also encouraging that Bournemouth played like typical one-season visitors to the Prem and that Sunderland are still dire. Or for the optimists, that Chelsea dropped points and Man U were poor
It's quite a giggle reading through the Everton forums - even though they witnessed 90+ mins of us easily competing and sometimes dominating the game, they simply can't wrap their heads around us being anything other than a kick/rush pub team. I think we'll get this a lot this season - the 'dark days' of WFC (and I include the GT years in that, thanks to the successful media spin of us being nothing but a long ball side) are so firmly ingrained in the memories of fans up and down the country that they are completely unable to comprehend the change that has occurred, even when it is displayed right before their eyes. Instead, they assume that their 'superior' players (they routinely confuse 'costs more' with 'worth more/better') are having an off day or have no desire, their manager is inept and their board is clueless. Otherwise they'd have smashed Watford. I mean, it's f***ing Watford for Christ's sakes. Watford  I'm loving this season already.
Except for the fact that he's bigger, stronger, faster, better in the air, more mobile, more composed and more skilful, I agree.
I'd disagree slightly...we mixed it up and you could see the their defenders dropping back for the ball down the channel and we played the short ball, if they pushed up we playd the ball into the channel. As MOTD showed the highest percentage of passes in the opposition half so the stats don't back up the 'hoof'.
Yes but to get it into the opposition half there was a bit of hoof. Not complaining, just saying what I saw.
They think we played hoofball? every time they got the ball it was a long ball and pray that lukaku got on the end of it!
Nyom is a physical beast, not many will get past him this season. I'm slightly sceptical of his technical ability, but I'll have to see more. He does seem to have a little bit of the Mamadou Sakho clumsy stride about him.
MOTD doesn't get on iplayer - BBC have very limited rights to EPL games. There is a review show on BBC2 in 10 minutes though.
WTF. Oh **** off Mr Cameron. I don't have a TV where I am. How am I supposed to watch it. Sorry, not having a go at you guys, just really pissed off I can't watch it on my perfectly good desktop.
https://www.reddit.com/r/footballhighlights/ <- All your football highlights needs. Has MOTD up on there already as well as the FULL MATCH against Everton
Don't worry mate, I watched MOTD on iplayer last season a few times, they upload it eventually! Or you could use UUA's link . And I agree with Hornet23, we did hoof it a lot (in the second half mainly). I'm hoping it was due to a combination of tiredness (due to the intensity we played at in the first half) and the the fact that Everton increased their intensity in the second half and didn't let us settle. Has there been any news on Behrami's injury? I didn't see anything on the Observer site about it so maybe he was taken off as a precaution?
Behrami’s "horror challenge" on Mirallas was "potentially career-ending" apparently. http://www.101greatgoals.com/gvideos/angry-kevin-mirallas-posts-video-of-valon-behramis-horror-challenge-during-everton-v-watford-instagram/ Is this the same "horror challenge" the ref didn't think was even worth a yellow card? The one MOTD didn't even bother commenting on? Thought so.
I had a decent view ... it was totally fifty fifty, not late, not malicious but unfortunately for him Miralles came off worse. Any team that thinks we're not going to challenge for the ball can think again.
Funny for such a horror tackle he went off, sprinted down the touchline, and ran back on again Deserved a booking for simulation
All the draws have been 2-2 so far this weekend so we are joint 7th currently. Level with Chelski. Looking down at Spurs & Arsenal. Nice.
