Unfortunately this is what happens when you go for budget veteran options. At some point their ability falls off a cliff. The owners have Foster in goal and also chose to renew Gomes contract. Prodl will fester in the reserves for two more years. Cathcart has a 4 year contract as does Dawson. Our left back is 35 and the back up is poor. Our owners choose the budget option every time when it comes to the defence as we’ve been pointing out for 2 years and it will relegate us.
Because you slammed the people on shoutbox while simultaneously stating you didn’t watch the game. How do you know they weren’t correct?
We’ve lost 6 in a row, with several heavy defeats. At which point will you stop waving your flag and actually think that we are in trouble?
Genuine question. Why hasn't Sarr featured at all yet? He's been playing all summer so didn't come with any fitness or injury concerns. By all means give the bloke a week off away from football. But why wasn't he ready to be at least on the bench yesterday? It seems strange to me to make a record signing and then immediately put him in cotton wool for no apparent reason.
Couldn’t play against Brighton because his work permit etc wasn’t in place. And then didn’t start training at all until Wednesday, so presumably too late for Javi to factor him into his plans.
He's an investment like a dinky toy you keep in the box. He's not here to play football. Or he's not trained for a couple of weeks. Has been flying around the world, moved house and country and was given a few days to settle in, both at the club and in the country. He's now starting training and will be in contention soon. We could have him at 80% fitness which he never gets above through fatigue, or give him the rest so he comes in at 95% and can sustain it.
No. Next week he's got a trip to IKEA planned for Saturday afternoon. Brave for a bank holiday weekend but that's the sort of single-minded focus we paid the big bucks for.
There's always something comforting driving out of Liverpool and heading south. Reminds one that whilst the 90 minutes may have been ****, life in general could have turned out so much worse than it has.
We have sold him for £36m while the Euro window was still open. Goodbye and good luck in Italy Ismaila. Thanks for everything.
Not getting the doom. After **** opening 20 minutes we more than matched the self-proclaimed 'best of the rest' at their stanchion blocked postbox view ******** of a stadium. We'll be fine.
Stuck in London the entirety of the day on a cultural mission. Only watched the highlights and while the first goal is a soft sloppy gift we seem to have improved a fair bit from last week when it was pre-season to all intents and purposes. No room of course for complacency and the warning bells will be ringing at London Colney but we should be fine if we continue to improve. However that defence needs upgrading most definitely in January. Outscoring the opposition is not a proven recipe for survival. Tight defences are paramount. And ours looks like a leaky sieve. Thanks to the efforts of the midfield it does get a fair bit of shielding. And once more can I please reiterate can members refrain from using semi-derogatory terms when writing replies. People are entitled to their opinion even if you think it is completely ridiculous and half baked state the reasons why rather than referring to the posters supposed mental capacity or state.
To be fair, Foster had less to do than Pickford - our finishing let us down. It was only when we went gung-ho for an equaliser that they created chances and I think a draw would have been a fair result. I still can't quite understand why Deeney chose to leather that chance into Pickford's face, a bit of composure and a side foot placement was all that was needed. The camera behind the goal showed how much room Pickford had left for a calm finish.
Here's a more uplifting thought for Sunday morning. If we get 4 points from the next two matches, we'd have the exact same return of points from those first 4 opponents as we did last season. If we win the next two, we'd actually be 2 points up on last season!! I don't like seeing us at the very bottom of the league, but at this stage of the season it can be quickly rectified. However, we do need to start picking up points from the next two games. I'm not worried at this stage, but I'd be very concerned if we lost the next two.
We go again next week, hopefully luck will keep us up this season as opposed to any coherent plan or coaching.
With the Deeney chance, was it actually onside? Knowing our luck VAR would probably have disallowed it. To be fair to Deeney, he had to take it quickly and was stretching slightly for the ball, but he made a good connection. Right now, everything we touch turns to sh1t. It's the run we're in. The Everton match showed all those things. On another day we could have won. Bernard's shot gets deflected wide or blocked instead of deflecting past Foster. Dawson's header goes in instead of hitting the bar. VAR or the referee gives Watford a correct decision for once and we get a penalty. Small details that could easily go for us than constantly against. Everton are one of the favourites to challenge the top 6. They didn't look all that to me. We competed and deserved a point. The Brighton match was clearly alarming. The Everton match showed an improvement. That is the level we need to be at in order to compete in the Premier League and we hope to get the breaks. If we play like we did against Brighton we'll get smashed by everyone.
It’s a good point. Little commentary. Can’t really help everyone being negative about the game but maybe more commentary
All I needed for 'House!!!' In Watford Interview Bingo was 'Someone's due a good hiding off us' Damn. Maybe next week.
There's a decent level of commentary. But as Gags says, mainly reactionary stuff. What are you expecting, BBC Sport levels of text commentary?
