That was the mistake should have kicked crampoe out rather than extend what’s he ever done and look where he’s left us

I really like Capoue. But the point remains the extension until age 35 without relegation release clause just seems awful decision making. And it's not the only time it has happened. And now amazingly despite giving him the security of such a long contract without reduction we are now not able to actually use his services(!) - he would undoubtedly bolster this current squad. And nobody knows if it is the player or the owner dictating this. The owners have made us a basket case of a club.

Oh yes - sorry more a reference to " Cranpoe"

Ofcouse we have let a lot of older players get long contracts which has hampered us it seems.

Capoue is the sort of player who won’t mind one bit about playing in the championship. If he can get a move to a nice sunny climate, a signing on bonus and maybe a slightly better salary then he’ll take it. If not he’ll happily stroll around the pitch for the next three years while he picks up £6m. I fully agree in the meantime he should be playing, but those willing him to stay should be careful what they wish for, if we don’t manage promotion this season.

Yes it's a risk due to the length of his deal. I would think he adds 25% or so onto our promotion prospects this coming season though if he plays at last two years level. Will be a cut above.

I agree, I’m just quite on the fence with it as I can see it going horribly wrong. If he stays and we don’t go up then that’s it, we’re stuck with him on crippling wages for two more years. But as you say, he’s a good player and could help us get promoted, if he is mentally up for it that is.

Unless his legs totally go I am sure we could find a suitor out east next year if absolutely we need to.

We managed to sell Mario Suarez to China and I am not even sure he was a footballer.

He might not necessarily want to go to China though, especially with a young family

With Capoue being such a huge NBA fan I'm sure he'd find that appealing.

He has requested to leave the club. Gutted.

Disappointed, but understandable. He’s 32, got about 2 years of top flight football left in him. He’s not going to waste one in the championship.

Poor attitude to have though, and does leave a sour taste in the mouth.

Not that unexpected really, but doesn't stop him being considered a pr*ck.

  21. This could have been the season he secured legendary status as our greatest midfielder of all time. Now he’ll just be remembered as another one of our mercenaries.

Why, because he wants to leave? Hardly.

I think the fans just felt he was the most likely to stay out of the big guns because of his age and a completely invented interpretation that he loved the club and so eulogised him.

Just like all the others, he didn't really care.

I'd imagine this happened at the start of the window and the club didn't announce it as they would be expecting reduced bids if other clubs knew they'd handed in a transfer request.

Now they've realised no-one wants them at the price they want to sell for so they've had to publicly come out and say they've handed in transfer requests.

Do people actually believe any of them love the club? The furthest I'll go is Deeney has a healthy understanding of the club, and perhaps loves the dinner ladies after his 10 year stay, but thats it.

Not at all, but there is still a massive area between 'loving the club' and handing in a transfer request.

Oh absolutely. Kinda worries me with Sarr now as I don't think any French speakers are staying? Wonder if he'll put a request in now.

Certainly interested in how they've framed the whole thing.

Whose enthusiasm is growing I wonder?

Interesting. I interpreted it as the opposite. The club wouldn’t want to publicly undermine their bargaining position solely to appease fans so I thought it suggested that their departures were relatively close and that they’d had some more advanced discussions with clubs. But I’ must confess I’m a happy clapper so...

I don't have an issue with Capoue wanting to leave. He may have requested to go, but it doesn't mean we'll find a buyer for him.

Either way, I'd never say a bad word about him. Great player, and one of the few that actually put a shift in for us last season. Sorry to see him leave.

So, we'll definitely need to bring in some proven quality. We cannot lose both Doucs and Caps without it having a major impact. Garner on loan is not enough.
