I doubt it. Probably more likely conditional on us staying up and the Pozzos would probably want a performance-related element to it too (certain number appearances/goals to trigger it).
Doumbia, Perotti, Pjanic, Inler . When we get relegated we are going to absolutely destroy The Championship 16/17
This could be the Pozzo master plan. Nick ugly players from 'sexy' Italian clubs. Holebas is quite ugly too. So's Doumbia so he could easily be on his way to us soon too then. Suddenly everything becomes clearer. Werder Bremen aren't particularly 'sexy', neither are they Italian, and Prodl isn't particularly ugly but he does keep a dog in his dungarees. Perotti isn't ugly at all but then neither are Genoa being a lovely Italian port city on the Med. so we obviously had no chance there then. As for the Napoli connection, neither Inler or Britos are especially ugly. But then is Napoli 'sexy'? It is in the shadow of a dormant volcano. Does that make it 'sexy'? I am currently in the shadow of an extinct volcano. Does that make me 'sexy'? Mertens doesn't qualify for this debate because he's quite small so it's hard to tell whether he's 'sexy' or not. He could easily slip in under the radar without anyone noticing in any event. Anyway, thanks for the insight. I'm gonna look at the next month's deliberations in a whole new light now.
So Roma want a loan with an obligation for us to buy him, we want a loan with an option Hopefully we meet in the middle somewhere
If we play 4-2-3-1 then he could only play up front or out of position on the right, where Vydra can play the same role, more naturally. Deeney isn't a getting dropped, & so, would Doumbia really be fully motivated to come & possibly play on the right? I don't know. His pace is electrifying, saw him against City for CSKA & he looked a huge threat. Roma never suited him, they have all the possession & their build-up is slow, which nullifies his best attributes. In conclusion, being fairly one-dimensional as he is, where & how does he fit into our starting XI, where he surely would have to be?
Imagine a front 3.... Deeney in the middle holding up play with Vydra and Doumbia either side playing off him.
The Guardian don't think he's ugly, for one... http://www.theguardian.com/fashion/...p-2014-guardian-fashion-fantasy-football-team
Some reports suggest never mind a loan, we'd rather just buy him thanks http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2015/07/watford-in-talks-with-roma-over-striker-move/
Indeed, that was what I was thinking, would certainly give us a chance in any away game. However, I think we're going after a first XI winger too. Doumbia indicates to me we'll be playing two up top maybe a bit more than I anticipated this season, especially after Deeney revealing that QSF wants to play with a high press.
Better than loan with obligation to buy, which would send us into administration if we got relegated!
He's not even slightly ugly. And if he were to wear a Watford shirt I would love him as a son regardless
So would purchasing him outright though Like I said, they'll try and find a middle ground which suits both, I.e mandatory to buy if we stay up
Perhaps someone could explain "loan this year, mandatory purchase next year" surely the financial outlay is identical to purchase now. Is there some tax issue at Roma?
You just wait until SM#16 gets hold of his stats... there'll be uproar across the Fifa Ultimate Team Community as Doumbia re-emerges in the new Fifa 16 with an overall rating of 68 and a sprint speed slower than that of Per Mertesacker
A deal for 1 season loan and option to buy for 14M€ as reported would be good. Useful to stay up and, if he does well, it would be easy to buy him next season (with another year of TV money in the pockets) and maybe sell him for more than those 10m£ as soon as he's bought. But I'm not convinced, because his wages seem really excessive (3M€/year apparently). Moreover, apparently Roma insists for mandatary buy after the loan instead of just option. That's a risk.
I agree Sherlock. Let's hope if we are serious about this signing that Gino is able to negotiate but ultimately we should just walk away if Roma aren't budging.
If there's one area that doesn't need improvements from last season it's our forwards! I am all for strengthening obvious weak spots (i.e full backs and holding midfielders) but would be a little sad to see players that have served us so well in recent years frozen out of the team without getting a chance to prove they're capable of the step up.
PROS: Is an 85 on FIFA CONS: Hasn't immediately accepted our thrilling offer It's a no from me. Get Scott Fitzgerald back in the team ffs. Bit of grit.
That's a bold statement considering our only forward with PL experience only scored 2 or 3 goals. Championship, no problem with our strikers. Premier League...untried. So if we can't score with the players we've got...we're screwed....so it's prudent to have a back up plan.
Provided everybody can be kept happy, not an easy task with fewer games in the season anyway, I believe you can never have enough quality. It's a very tough old league and many of the sides we'd exoect to be bottom end of the table have been busy changing managers and/or signing new players and will all expect to improve. For me right now the wing positions and creative midfield looks the area most in need of recruitment but I'd welcome another quality striker. I'm still not certain Ig will be here, despite him obviously wanting to be. Remember 2006..a few games in and King got injured. These things happen sadly, and I believe you need four quality forwards. Goals go a long way to keeping you up. And Flores is a coach who rarely picks the same starting line up consecutively, a bit like Benitez (and Fergie in that respect)
