Out of the sicknote freebie strikers (him, Sturridge and Carroll), happily take Welbeck all day long. Some actual competition for Deeney at long last too.
The third kit looks okay at least! A welcome signing - let’s hope he can stay fit! A class player when he is.
The forum member who said we’d sign Sarr, a capped England player (Welbeck) and another CB has said on another thread that the CB is an U21 international and has had a medical in Barcelona. Todibo? Whether he’s just made a luck guess with Welbeck or actually is ITK is anyone’s guess!
I'm so pleased with this signing. I've always liked Welbeck. I remember he changed that game when we played Arsenal at the Emirates in the famous FA Cup win. We were coasting 2-0 up with just 12 minutes to go. He comes on and creates havoc. I think he scored one and missed a sitter, but he was a menace. There's no downside to this at all. Of course there is a big question mark over his fitness, and he tends to get injured a lot, but after much criticism I think our medical team have improved dramatically. The proof of that was last season. If we manage him correctly, then we could get a lot of game time out of him. He's also got a great attitude. He works his socks off for the team. He's not one of these prima donna types. No transfer fee, a pay as you play type deal. What's not to like. An England striker signed for nothing. I'm surprised but delighted Watford got this done. His injury record, is probably why we got him while others stood back. However, it does show that we are far more attractive as a club than many make out. Deulofeu, Pereyra and now Welbeck. These are quality players.
Pay as you play. I can hear the cockles in the forum’s heart glowing in delight at the thought of this we have been asking for this since we wanted Tommie Smith back
Where are we getting pay as you play from? I'm fairly confident that entire notion doesn't really actually exist in the majority of football.
Most of last season I looked at our starting team and thought, that’s good. Then I looked at the bench for game changers and realised (Gray aside) we didn’t have any. If he’s on the bench we have a game changer, if he starts it’s because he’s playing well for us and has ousted a current starter meaning they become our game changer off the bench. He could be injured most the time he’s here in which case we’re no better or worse than last season. It’s a good deal.
Ive seen those casting couch movies on PH. Javi has a different method of testing mettle than QSF's stare.
I think it’s just another way of stating that he is likely on a low-ish wage but heavily incentivised with bonuses (goal bonus, appearance fee etc). Certainly makes sense. I know your natural inclination is to think the worst and at times I agree with you. But you seem to be looking for issues where there are none at times. I don’t think Gino is the all-knowing oracle that some do - but I do think he’s savvy enough to know the issues Welbeck has had and wouldn’t lumber himself with a deal that wasn’t in everyone’s interests. Literally makes no sense why he would.
They should move the dugouts to the other side of the pitch; they can build a direct tunnel into the hospital from there. Y'know, just in case.
With modest remodelling of the GT roof, Javi & co could install themselves in a top floor ward. As you say, just in case.
I'm pretty pleased with this. If we add Sarr, then I would say its been a brilliant window. As it is currently, it gets a solid C+ grade.
Are we sure this is going ahead? The Guardian Football Page is still leading with a Nordic lesbian kiss. Surely, Danny is bigger news than that.
No tracksuit for him to warm up in. Just a hospital gown and some compression socks and he is good to go. Grapes optional
FFS he's still not signed the damn thing! Why's it taking so long? The paper is only a few cms away from the pen.
The article on the official site doesn’t mention the length of his contract. They do with almost every signing and did with Dawson... I wonder if this is due to any get-out clause for the club if the worst/expected happens...
