Indeed. I wouldn't say I was a hater but certainly didn't think he was right to be captain and it was impacting on his batting. From what the commentators were saying yesterday Silverwood has taken a large amount of the 'captaincy admin' off of him that Bayliss wasnt interested in. Clearly it's worked.
I know the bowlers will be tired, and I know the pitch will be at its worst on day 5 but surely we should have forced the follow on ? Batting again before declaring will reduce the time available to bowl them out and an overly aggressive declaration or collapse chasing quick runs vs spinners could even see us lose this ! Weak decision in my book....
Not sure about that. India batting again would have played purely defensively to run the game time down. This way they will have an impossible target of perhaps 400 on the last day with the worst of the wicket.
....but my guess is not enough time to bowl them out. Can see the game ending with them 5 wickets down and 250 runs short - we are taking up time we don't have.....
The decision is two-fold, firstly there would be a concern about the fielders playing in the heat for 2.5 days solid by the time they got to the middle of day 5. Secondly the pitch will deteriorate to the point that any considerable chase in the 4th innings would heavily favour the bowling team.
If they got 300+ it would have left a nasty total to chase on a day 5 pitch. Not sure why we are still batting though
Problem with sub continent pitches is too much depends on the toss. This Chennai pitch is an absoute road for 2 days allowing whoever wins the toss to clock up 600 ish, making it virtually impossible for the other team to win the game , a draw being the best hope, due to the extreme deteriation of the pitch on days 4 and 5.
Lucky old Joe Root considering he left it so late to get India back in. We only had 45 overs left in the day. Daft.
Great win and sets the series up perfectly, Wonderful spell from Jimmy. Give him the next test off and bring him back for the day/night game as ball might swing more at night. God help us if we lose a toss though
Not only that, on Day 1 I ran through the other Sky Sports channels one by one and muttered 'what the f***, why's South Africa on?' before realising.
Yes! I got myself in a right pickle, panicking on variations of the three numbers, especially as the tennis is on Eurosport,410! Yes,me too! Again, same here!
C4s' ordinary presentation of the test really hammers home just how good the Sky team are at presenting cricket. Please God may they get The Ashes and not BT or C4.
Apparently so! I loved working there, but it's one of those organisations where people in high up positions are often in position because they've worked there a long time, not because they're good at their jobs, so you have a lot of people in power who are useless...
Seems the 3rd umpire isn’t covering himself in glory, but fortunately for England other than losing a review both of those who survived got out very soon afterwards.
