He did okay, some nice touches and lay offs, but based on that display I wouldn’t get too excited if he comes here. He played like a player that is in need of move, if that makes sense. Not in a sulking way, but just felt like he needs a change of scenery. He had a couple of opportunities to score in the second half but missed them. One in particular is what I would consider a poor finish. He was 1 on 1, angle was tight but a good striker hits the target at least. He dragged it about 8 yards wide.

I worry about his strength in the championship. Again, only going off what I saw, so I could be wrong, but if that’s how he normally plays, then he’s going to get bullied in this league. Played like a gentle giant rather than the physical menace we need.

If we sign him, based off that 45mins, then don’t get your hopes up. Jeonbuk play again on Wednesday in the quarter final of their cup game. They also play on Saturday. So providing he’s still there, I will watch him again.

 

I watched the YouTube video of him. Honest thoughts, he looked clumsy, and bit of a concern that his highlights reel includes passing the ball to the opposition on a few occasions. Looked like physical defenders would dominate him.

But he must have good qualities as well and I’ll be right behind him if he signs.

Weirdly I had Joenbuks live score appear on my phone notifications today. Must have been because I searched for Cho Gue-sung when we were linked.

전북은 이날 승리로 단 페트레스쿠 감독 체제 첫 승을 따냈고, FA컵 준결승 티켓을 확보했다.

조규성은 이날 페널티킥 득점을 포함해 2골을 기록하면서 전북의 FA컵 4강 진출을 이끌었다.

조규성은 경기 후 기자회견을 통해 “리그에서 상황이 좋지 않아 FA컵은 좋은 성적을 거두자고 했는데 대승을 거둘 수 있어 기분이 좋다”고 말했다.

이어 “너무 아쉽다. 찬스가 너무 많았다. 공격수로서 살렸어야 했지만, 급했던 것 같다. 스스로에 대한 실망감도 있지만, 과정이라고 생각한다”고 덧붙였다.

조규성과 페트레스쿠 감독은 경기 후 따로 대화를 하는 장면도 포착이 됐다. 이에 대해서는 “‘이틀 후 경기가 또 있는데 왜 이렇게 많이 뛰었냐’고 다그치셨다. 골을 더 넣고 싶다고 말했다”고 설명했다.

페트레스쿠 감독은 공격적인 축구를 구사하는 것으로 유명하다. 공격수 조규성이 바라볼 때는 어떨까?

조규성은 “공격적인 부분을 좋아하신다. 전방 압박을 선호한다. 광주와의 리그 경기는 손발이 맞지 않았다. 선수들도 어떤 축구를 하는지 알아가고 있다”고 언급했다.

조규성은 월드컵 활약 이후 유럽 무대의 러브콜이 있는 것으로 알려졌는데 “갈망이 있다. 도전할 수 있는 상황이 오기 전에 전북에서 좋은 모습을 보여주고 싶다”고 욕심을 내비쳤다.

그러면서 “공중볼 경합이 장점이라고 생각하는데 더 강화해야 할 것 같다. 대표팀 소집 이후 더 느꼈다. 하지만, 축구는 공중볼 상황은 있는 건 아니다. 아직 많이 부족하다고 생각한다”고 아쉬움을 표했다.

조규성에게 유럽 진출 기회가 없었던 건 아니다. 월드컵 이후 겨울 이적 시장에서 많은 러브콜이 있었지만, 이뤄지지 않았다.

후회는 없을까? 조규성은 “1도 없다. 농담으로 ‘갔으면 성공하지 못했을 것이다’고 말한다. 몸 상태가 너무 좋지 않았다”고 개의치 않았다.
