Whichever way you slice it, to land two highly regarded England U21 internationals for a combined fee of £9.5m (without the add-ons) is spectacular in today's market.

Hughes is a bit of a punt, but with good reason. However, Chalobah is further up the food chain, in regards to his development.

Would still like to see us get Lemina, but these two signings are a very shrewd piece of business by the club.

Sky sports reckon initial outlay is £5m and could rise to £7m. If true this deal along with the Hughes fee have been fantastic value for money considering their ages and talent, you can see why we were never going to spend the sort of money required for Asombalonga.

It's insane. I know he'd only got a year left on his contract but it still seems incredibly low to me. A quarter of the price of Ake. Gino is a genius.

 

Maybe as we have done so well financially with Hughes & Chalobah we might just splash a little bit of what we have saved on them to bring in Britt, after all we do desperately need a striker.

 

I think the real value in this and the Hughes deal are shown when you think...

Even the internet fainted when the announcement was made! All those fibre optics and invisible laser beams just stood slack jawed and froze for something like 20 minutes as some mob in Hertfordshire picked the Pensioners pockets and pulled out a Chalobah (as well as warm boiled sweets in icky wrappers, old scrunched up paper tissues, an old key and some lint).

I never really thought we'd get the man once the fee of £5m was being bandied about so I take my stovepipe off to whoever has been involved with this deal.
