There is some stunning over-confidence going into this game. Yes they played more recently than us and their 2 main strikers are out. However they are a good side and many of us would be very happy to have Rodriguez and Vydra upfront. I thought that Bournemouth game signalled our path away from trouble but our form since that game is W1 D2 L4. Their form over the same period prior to their game at MC was W4 D3 L0. Yes a win would be fantastic, esp given the results this week, but they are a good side and there's no way that it's ours to lose, even taking into account the factors that give us a slightly improved chance. If our form of the last 7 games continues, we should only be expecting one or maybe 2 more wins this season.
Given the heat, I think the result will come down to one two set pieces.

I was replying to Nath that such a win would do a lot to put my fears to bed, my previous reply in the thread was that it would be typical of us to spurn an opportunity as everything happening with them at the moment means that we couldn't have asked to play them at a better time.

Also form has gone out of the window with a 3 month gap in the season

And that's aside from the fact half the Burnley team involved in that good form won't be on the pitch tonight.

I think Sheff Utd have lost their form. Brighton have picked up slightly. Leicester's form dipped before the lockdown. Most teams, especially top 2 and bottom 5 have carried on where they left off. With Burnley we'll probably find out tonight whether the city game was a blip. Dyche is someone who is strong in the face of adversity, its unclear whether he can unite the whole club with him now. But I wouldnt bet against him.

Poor Sheffield United have been ****ed over by the break, even if they were overachieving before it. Leicester had Vardy out for a long time before the Villa game just before lock down, so I thought they might improve, though they've been average so far. As for Dyche, hopefully there's only so much 'galvanising' he can do with a squad like that...

Yes i wasn't suggesting that you were being overconfident, its just that i wanted to use your B'muff reference given that was such a great performance and result and, Pool aside, our form since has been poor.

To be fair for the Muff game, they were awful that day other than one chance after 10 minutes. We didn't need to get out of second gear that day.

No it hasn't. It didn't really in the Bundesliga either.

The only two exceptions to that have so far have been Shef Utd and Arsenal, both of whom have had injury problems since the restart. Burnley might turn out to be a third, for similar reasons.

Other than them there have been no major surprises in the results.

What I meant is that with a 3 month gap, form can't be relied upon as a gauge.

One might have thought that, but really there's been little change since the gap (other than each team being a bit rustier). Most have picked up wherever they left off.

The problem is that when people become so full of hate that they will believe in anything that backs up their limited agenda, then it becomes impossible to get through to them. Facts become irrelevant, their hatred and bigotry just gets so much that reasoning with them is useless.

You're one of those people. Goodbye.

It's not that bad. Wood and Hendrick are the only regulars in that run who are missing, and even Wood missed at least a couple of the wins. Our first XI is still strong. Our subs bench - well, at least there will be 9 backsides sat on it tonight!

Great time to be playing Burnley. Threadbare squad and a 5-0 drubbing to overcome. Positive Dawson will be happy knowing Wood and Barnes are out. Not happy the bookies have us at favourites though. A massive chance to put four points between us and others.

An amazing chance to put some distance between ourselves and the relegation places.

It's got 0-0 written all over it.

Add Southampton and Brighton to that list then you have a quarter of the league who's form has changed. The teams form at the top and bottom rarely changes anyway hence why they're in the position they are in

You just know we're not going to win. Dyche is in his absolute element - whining about a lack of players etc. He loves the back to the walls ****, everything is screaming 1-0 Burnley to me. I hope i'm proved wrong, but whenever things seem to be looking up we mess things up.

Brighton haven't seemed much different as before the break - they were drawing pretty much every game beforehand, and if it wasn't for Arsenal having a meltdown they would have continued that trend so far as well.

Southampton have been exactly the same in that they've pretty much been impossible to predict from one week to the next.

Very early to say if a team's form has changed. Soton have played once and beaten the bottom team. Before that their form this year was W4 D1 L5.
Brighton beat arsenal with a 95th minute goal (so almost a draw :) ) and drew at Leicester and before that had drawn 4 of their last 5.

Surely the temperature is gonna play it’s part tonight, it’s stinking hot and I don’t want to lift a finger today let alone play football!

Aside from the very top sides form is always temporary, even more so for the clubs nearer the bottom otherwise they wouldn’t be at the bottom.

Burnley’s form pre lockdown would never carry on indefinitely otherwise they’d end up in the CL spots for which they just aren’t good enough.

Of course a three month break is likely to interrupt either good or bad form, players confined to their homes for months can’t fail to have some sort of impact.

I’m not saying it won’t be a tough game, but Burnley’s form three months ago is largely irrelevant, and to an extent it wouldn’t have been that relevant back then as it would have to have ended at some point.

I'm not sure about that. Norwich's form has been pretty consistent.

Precisely if you play Wellbeck he'll be out for a season and a half.

Yes I should’ve said aside from the very best and worst sides from is temporary, good or bad.

For the the middling teams winning more than four or five games in a row virtually never happens. Going unbeaten for much longer than that virtually never happens either.

...or put another way, most games have been one by the better team that's higher up the league, so 2-0 to Burnley ?
