It all seems very unlikely to me. I think it's time to move on.

Rumours from some journalists is that he's off to Forest for £5 million. We'd get a chunk of that, if true, wouldn't we?

Opps, you beat me to it. Sky sports reporting 5 mill upfront and 8 mil overall. That's insane for a league 1 striker. we'll get a large chunk surely.

Couldn't care less where he goes to as long as they're willing to splash out a lot. Forest fit the bill for that, having just made a bunch from Lascelles + Darlow, and by virtue of them having a bonkers owner.

Are you guys sure there's a sell on clause ? I thought we just had the right to match the price and buy him ourselves if we chose to ?

Yes, their owner actually confirmed it on Twitter when asked by a Watford fan.

I seem to remember #SM16 tweeting their chairman and he confirmed the sell on. Can't remember how much it was though.

I believe we have a 50% sell on clause. If Britt does get sold for the crazy figure being mentioned, it's a fantastic piece of business by Peterborough. Clearly one that our management totally misjudged.

I'd say it's a fantastic piece of business by us. Securing possibly £5m+ for a player who's barely played a game for us? We completely took out the risk by putting in the sell-on clauses.

How? If he goes for 8mil, and we have 50% on the profit we'll receive around 3.5 million from Forest, on top of the 1.3 they paid. Meaning we get almost 5mil for a player who's not proven.

Not really. Had we just loaned Assombalonga to Peterborough, we'd have pocketed the lot. I think we just under-estimated him. It happens though and at least we did protect ourselves with the sell-on clause.

Peterborough tempted us with the £1.2m up front for a player that we didn't rate all that highly. This is why I said they did a fantastic piece of business because they saw the potential in him and we didn't. You can't get it right all the time though. We just got this one wrong.

Didn't his contract run out this summer? What if he'd of gone to P'boro and done well and wanted to stay? Or if he'd have gone there and broke his leg in the first game? I don't think it was worth the extra risk.

Loan him out when he had 1 year left on his deal? Good shout HB1 ;)

We certainly didn't get it wrong or underrate him, I remember Zola praising him. It's great money for is considering we have better.

I'm not sure they did. Made a nice amount to sell him to Posh, he has a good season and now we may get somewhere between £2.5m and £4m. This is for a player that probably wouldn't have played much last season and has never scored goals higher than league 1.

That's easily solved if he signed a new contract, which I'm sure he would have jumped at.

He wouldn't have, he knew he was going to play here and wanted to leave. It was a great deal for the club.

Extra money for the koffers, even less reason to sell Deeney now if we get a few bob from this.

We don't really know that yet.

If he signs for Forest and tears the division a new one, then it would be fair to say we got it wrong.

Right now, though, he's had one season playing for a League 1 club who are generally too good for League 1, and not good enough for the Championship. He might flop in the Championship, or he might not have another good season in L1. Furthermore, let us not forget that Joe Garner is looking a world beater down there...

We normally get everything spot on, but it's not a precise science. Britt could have gone to Posh and flopped and this is what they probably thought is what would happen. We even protected ourselves with a sell-on fee and buy back option.

But he's only been at Peterborough for one season, we had him come through the academy. Now it looks like he's going to another club for possibly £8m. I cannot see how this can be considered good business by the club. It's more like they got their assessment wrong, on this occasion, but it's not a total loss.

I'm sure someone high up is kicking themselves over this though.

£5m for an unproven player at this level, and we have received £3.7m...fantastic piece of business I'd say.

It doesn't really matter if he's a success or failure at Forest. It's all about the transfer fee. If Forest pay up to £8m for him, that could have been money directly going into the club's account had we did this a bit differently.

The club tried to loan Assombalonga out. Boro didn't want a loan, they insisted on a purchase.

If we had refused to sell him he might be sitting in the reserves right now having earned us nothing.

I'lll take half of a sure thing over double of nothing any day of the week.

Not really. had he stayed with us he wouldn't have got the games, goals or exposure. Forest wouldn't be offering us 8M for him of that I am certain.

The club is going places. People in the game know this. Plenty of our youngsters have signed up extended contracts and not many have wanted to leave.

This is speculation on my part, but I'm pretty sure Britt didn't really want to leave the club and he would have signed a new deal had one been offered. The club were prepared to cash in on him though, so the choice was made for him.

Of course he would have. I'm saying we should have extended his contract then loaned him to Peterborough. He would have had the exact same season, but this time Forest would have been bidding £8m to us.

That could well be true, but I'm sure there would have been more than one club willing to take him on loan from League One. Peterborough would not have been the only option.

Getting all this money for a guy who struggled through 4 matches for us. Cha-ching.

Interesting they're quoting more for him than anyone has bid so far for Deeney.

Britt wanted to sign for them and we really were very reluctant to let him go.... hence the huge sell on.
I actually think we got this spot on.

I believe Britt felt he was too far down pecking order at the Vic and wanted a move Darragh was shrewd enough to get him , we were shrewd enough to protect ourselves with the sell on and first refusal clauses.
