They have just said on 5live he was murdered by manual strangulation.

    :(

Anyway way to die is awful but that is very tragic.

Hopefully any killer will be caught ASAP.

It must be dreadful for his family to be going through all this when they probably just want to bury (or cremate) Bob and think of the good times in his life.

They have mentioned that they may have been more than one person who was the murderer as there would have had to have been a very large man to take Woolmer down. This is turning out to be an absolute tradegy. It seems very weid that a stranger would have been able to do this, other than a member of security as he would have known the majority on his floor

Watched the news conference last night, the English Plod kept saying "killers" made the reference at least five times, so clearly they think more than one person is involved.

Very little has been said of the member of the Irish cricket delegation that died a few nights ago out there, also after the shock win.

It was first reported he was staying with friends on the island not the team and had probably died of a Heart attack, but I haven't seen anything else about it.

Was he part of the irish set up , Or just one of the supporters that had travelled there .

Cant believe that someone would want to kill Bob cause they lost.

Ireland's preparations for tomorrow's crucial ICC Cricket World Cup clash with the West Indies have been overshadowed by the sudden death of one of their officials, Bob Kerr.

The chairman of the North West Cricket Union and former president of the Irish Cricket Union died after suffering a heart attack at his Jamaica hotel room during the early hours of yesterday morning.

It is understood the 68-year-old Ulsterman had been staying at the hotel in Ocho Rios with the Irish team when he was rushed to hospital around 4am.

Mr Kerr, who was a prominent figure in Irish cricket, was in Jamaica supporting the team and even celebrated St Patrick's night with them following their sensational win over Pakistan.

His death has sent shock waves throughout the tight-knit Irish camp and the wider cricketing community who are still recovering from the sudden death of Pakistani coach Bob Woolmer on Sunday.

The 58-year-old was found unconscious by staff at the Pegasus Hotel in Kingston on Sunday morning and was taken to hospital but later died. Initially it was thought his death was a result of natural causes, but yesterday Jamaican police issued a statement saying they were now treating his death as suspicious.

Last night Adrian Birrell, coach of the Ireland team said, "This is tragic news, and on behalf of the entire squad and management, I'd like to pass on our sympathy and condolences to his wife Hope, and his family circle. Bob was a great ambassador for Irish cricket, and worked tirelessly in his various roles within cricket."

Mr Kerr was ICU Chairman from 2000-2002, and was President of the Union in 2004. He was Chairman of the North West Cricket Union when he died.

Former ICU Chairman Joe Doherty paid tribute saying: "We are all stunned by this news. Bob has given outstanding service to Irish cricket at club, provincial, and national level, holding almost every senior position in the land with distinction. To me personally, he was always very supportive, especially when I was Chairman of the NWCU and ICU. I shall always be grateful for that.

"His sudden passing will leave a big void in Irish cricket, and his beloved North West. My sincere condolences go to his loving wife Hope at this devastating time."

Mr Kerr, a retired headmaster, was an opening batsman for North Fermanagh and Dungannon in the North West league and played into his 50s. He was also a former president of the Ulster Teachers' Union.

Farking hell. This is despicable. I hope they catch the perpetrators of Woolmer's muder (and any from the Irish fellows if relevant). I hope there is hanging still in Jamaica. This must be awful for the families concerned and puts a huge shadow on the tournament, which is now an irrelevance.

Just been listening to the Radio and there was a report on Woolmers death. Latest police reports say there were no signs of forced entry or any 'obvious' signs of a struggle within the room, pointing to the possible killer(s) being somebody that Woolmer knew and would have let into his room.

All looking very suspicious, personally when i heard he'd died the 1st thing that sprung to my mind was he'd been bumped off as a result of Pakistan's poor showing but i'd be tempted to lean towards the betting ring theory after all that has come out since.

Terrible loss, Bet Freddie Flintoff and his fellow boozers are glad the spotlight is off them now though.

Allan Donald has also said for it to be called off but you don't know if this was a betting ring thing, that that is what they were actually trying to do was bet on the world cup not actually having a winner.

A SA university academic who was writing a book with Woolmer has said that Woolmer would have wanted it to carry on. I think the trophy or player of the tournament etc needs to be named in his honour.

The assisntant coach and the captain (Mustaq Ahmed and Inzi) of the Pakistan team are now being further interviewed. People don't think they are under suspicion though, just formalities/paper work, but still seems a little weird to me.

Something has gone on definately but I still can't see it being any of the players. My feelings are that some players must have been on the take and they know more than what they are letting on and that some bookmaker put paid to him.

police said it was not a professional hit, despite the theory that he was poisoned first to weaken him befor before being strangled.

needs a big guy to strangle even a weakened woolmer. a big fit strong guy.

more shocks to come as i said.

well they have let the Pakistan team go back, although they have taken all thier prints and DNA...this has been so shocking from start to finish!

  28. jobr

its probably to early in the investigation not to let them go back, as they rarely have anything concrete this early on to hold some one.

It wasn't a random killing on the spur of the moment, more complex than that and a lot of forensic stuff takes days to come back.
