RIP. It will certainly shock the world of cricket, always seemed a decent bloke and coach and would have liked to see him take charge of England after Fletcher.

Feel sorry for Ireland in a way as well as their great victory will be overshadowed by this.

I do hope this was just a sad tragic death of a well respected coach and person rather than anything suspicious.

I was just thinking did the pressure and stress of 2 bad defeats get to him?

Does not really matter anyway because its sad whatever the cause was.

I just thought you may have been suggesting foul play i.e. murder of which there is no suspicion.

Has suicide been ruled out yet? Not had the TV on for a while.

He was ill Jon. Pretty obvious he died of natural causes from what I've read.

Sounds like a horrible lonely way to go for such a great guy and gifted cricket coach. a terrible loss to world cricket. could have possibly followed fletcher into the england job.

brought a real feeling of deflation and sadness to the world cup.

It is a shame, that is for sure. It certainly has put a bit of a downer on proceedings at the World Cup.

    Seems they are still unsure.

    Post mortem was inconclusive.

The plot thickens with a full investigation.

Can't see Pakistan being allowed to go home tonight once they are knocked out.

The first thing my husband said when he heard the news was that he feared
foul play. I accused him of being a conspiracist, seems I owe him an apology!!

According to a news broadcast in Jamaica, blood marks were found on his neck indicating that he was strangled.

Very strong rumours suggest he may have been bumped off by a betting consortium.

Paddy Power before Pakistan's first game of the tournament took three, very, very large bets on them.

Sarfraz Nawaz was going on about murder from the moment his death was announced, suggesting he (Sarfraz) knew about the betting rings.

Seems a bit far fetched though - what could anyone gain from killing woolmer? revenge? a warning to others? Blimey cricket's pretty serious in the sub continent.

They burn pictures of players and attack their houses etc if somebody like Pakistan or India lose so the fans take defeat pretty badly.

I really hope it was natural causes, would be a bad day all round if this was something else. Feel sorry for Woolmer's family and the Pakistan team (something i didn't think i would ever say!) I hope this is not another Hansy Crone situation as his life met a sceptical tragic ending with many conspiracies surrounding his death

    just on ssn

Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer suffered a broken bone in his throat after falling against the toilet bowl whilst vomiting in his hotel room, according to Sky Sports News.

The 58-year-old was discovered unconscious in his hotel room the day after Pakistan had suffered a shock World Cup exit at the hands of debutants Ireland.

Initial post mortem tests proved inconclusive and now Jamaican police are awaiting the results of a second post mortem.

Sky Sports News reports that Woolmer suffered from a broken bone in his throat, an injury he sustained during a fall against the toilet bowl whilst vomiting.

The news comes as Jamaican police questioned and took finger prints from the entire Pakistan World Cup squad, as their investigations continue.

"We're going through a process of speaking to people, including members of the team," said Mark Shields, the deputy chief commissioner of the Jamaican police force.

Pakistan team manager Talat Ali is furious that the squad are being seen as possible suspects due to the process.

"The impression is being given that the Pakistan team are suspects. This is not true," said Ali.

"We are being interviewed first because we are leaving for Montego Bay later this afternoon, but other people will also be interviewed by police."

I do hope it was a tragic accident, but a broken bone in the neck is easily inflicted and made to look like an accident, should someone so wish.

The trouble out there is the Hotels won't have complex CCTV systems etc to help plod.

Lets hope it was a tragic accident , but i fear it's not

My guess is that someone was a bit upset and blamed Bob for the poor performance of the team .

  32. jobr

I think its either a large scale betting consortium and / or linked to match fixing.

the whole business is so depressing. such a sh*tty way for such a good man to go. it really does make me feel so sad and it has put a real damper on the world cup.

it seems to me that it probably and hopefully was a tragic accident. think what its like when you're really plastered or ill and trying to upchuck. i could have killed myself dozens of times.

    RIP Bob Woolmer.
