Stambouli http://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2015/watford-want-benjamin-stambouli/ Was a good player at Montpellier before Spurs got hold of him.
he's really struggled at spurs but if he's available at an attractive price then I wouldn't say no. As was said above, he was decent before he moved to spuds.
Never really given as opportunity at Spurs, classic damaged goods signing. It's tricky to give an opinion on whether it's needed though because we could be playing any one of about 34 systems next season.
All about price really, if hes cheap then hes a good fit to stick on a 5 year deal and hold within the 'group'
Along with Fazio I wondered why Spurs bought him. After seeing him play he didn't seem to be an upgrade on Capoue or Bentaleb. No doubt he's got some talent, but I would prefer Watson or Tozser in central midfield.
Speaking to few Spurs fans, generally opinion was he pretty decent. Looked good when he came on and felt this season could be the one where he kicks on. Unlucky to be kept out by Bentelab who played so well
Only signed last year for £4.7 million....................... Lets hope Spurs off load for 1/2 that then would be a good deal for a French under 21 player The 24-year-old arrived at White Hart Lane last summer from Montpellier on a four-year contract when Spurs beat Swansea to a £4.7million deal. - See more at: https://www.clubcall.com/watford/watford-want-french-midfielder-1771240.html#sthash.c4zpGiLX.dpuf
In the interest of being fair to the fella, I haven't seen all of his games this season. In the odd few that I saw I didn't see anything that would greatly improve on what we have, but Spurs fans are more in the know than me on his performances, so I think it's safe(and fair) to keep my opinions on him to myself until we see him play! (if he does in fact sign)
Remember what Gomes said about Spurs taking good players and ruining them, well should we sign him let's hope this is one of those with a point to prove.
Seen a lot of him as my dad is a spurs fan so I watch all their games too. Would easily be in our starting 11 if he signed. When he has played he has been solid, a lot of spurs fans including my dad never understood why he didn't play more regardless of Bentaleb, because when he did play, he didn't do anything wrong. If we pulled this off, he will become a fan favourite and a lot of people will be impressed by him. Seriously would be an amazing signing.
Nice that we're after proper Prem & top-flight Euro talent, not just has-beens, cast-offs & championship wannabees (like Muff)
I will love it we sign Stambouli, love it. Watched a fair few of Spurs' Europa League matches and he looked really impressive when he played; to me, he seems like he'd be an upgrade on any midfield option we currently have. He's also young, was very strong at Montpellier before he moved and even made vice-captain as a 23 year old. He is also, I think it's fair to say, an actual defensive midfielder; something that we don't actually have and I believe we will very much need in the prem. He does have experience too, let's not forget he has won Ligue 1. Counting against him is the fact that he is younger than me, which disgusts me, but I don't think we can afford to let that influence our transfer dealings to too much of an extent as a club or we might end up putting our Premier League survival at risk.
Exactly. He'd be a quality signing, but Levy is the man who sat Gomes in the reserves for three years because he didn't want to make a loss.
I know we don't normally splash the cash but spurs only paid £4.7mil for him, my guess is we could get him for £4-5mil which would benefit us in two ways. One we would have a top midfielder and two a certain name will be removed from our history books.
Seems like this fella has a reputation I was unaware of, apparently Marseille are after him - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...-midfielder-Benjamin-Stambouli-Marseille.html ....I'll try keeping my negative transfer opinions to myself (until I've at least given a player minutes on the pitch!). I know it will be hard for me to do, but I'll try my best.
I'm not sure they've got that right. I actually seem to recall reading that he is admant that he will try to avoid a move back to France. It's likely that their bid will do little to compete with the prospect of another premier league club. I really really can't see us spending 4 million on him though. What exactly suggests Gino is about to start spending this kind of money on a player now. Our first summer signing was a free for a start..
