[NOT HAPPENING] Benik Afobe

Just when you start getting used to the news that Deeney is going, you find out this guy will be his replacement.

If we're going down this route, I see no reason why we don't go for Adebayo Akinfenwa. He'll be just as crap, but a hell of a lot cheaper.

 

Bournemouth striker Benik Afobe's future is in doubt after a row with manager Eddie Howe.

The Sun says Afobe's time at Bournemouth could be up after he was drawn into a row over a PEN.

He was almost struck by the unlikely flying missile when Howe went into an animated discussion after the FA Cup defeat at Wigan.

Details are a bit sketchy but Howe seemingly lost control of the pen while making a point about the way his side had lost so poorly.

It flew from his grasp, rebounded off a wall and headed for Afobe.

Howe is thought to want to draw a line under the incident — but Afobe, 24, took exception to the episode and he missed last week's trip to West Ham with the row escalating out of hand.

The Cherries were looking to sell the forward before the comical clash and his reaction has just made his exit all the more likely.

It would be out for the season if it were ours!

Take every transfer story with a pinch of salt until any are officially announced. Or you’re just playing the game of the newspapers and agents.

Afobe and Gray will be pretty decent in the championship.

We're not going to sign this guy. He's toilet, overpriced and doesn't score goals. We'll go for some Johnny Foreigner who's toilet, cheap and doesn't score goals.

 

I always see other clubs with hotshots, who we are informed used to be a CB until he was converted at 18. It’s time to turn to Daryl Janmaat as a striker. To be fair, his shot is his best attribute.

 

We wouuld immediately net the 12 goals a season he directly costs us at full back, even if he didn't score

I would rather we go in for Assombalonga than Afobe.

 

Looking at his stats, I cannot see why Watford would be interested in him. In three seasons he's played 63 Premier League matches and scored 10 goals. An average of 1 goal every 6.3 matches.

 

I agree but I wouldn't use that as people will use Deeney's stats in response.

 

Yes Deeney has scored 25 goals in 90 matches, which is an average of 1 goal every 3.6 games. Ok, he takes penalties, and he's very good at them.

Afobe doesn't score goals for Bournemouth, so why would he for us? He's now just a bench player for Bournemouth and is well behind the pecking order. They wouldn't let him go cheaply either. They would want around £20m for him apparently.

I know Deeney is not prolific, but he does bring other things to the table. He can still change matches (Arsenal, Southampton). Why would we sell Deeney and sign another non-scoring striker, who cannot take penalties and does have the leadership qualities of Deeney. It makes no sense to me.

 

So glad you did the maths on that one.

 

Believe me, for some on here, that's absolutely necessary.

 

Do not buy Afobe. Bournemouth fans would gladly pay for the taxi fare for him to go anywhere. He is on £110,000 a week at Bournemouth. A waste of money indeed.
It would be a sign of desperation from us to sign him.

 

There's a pretty good clue in there that he might be on his way.

Relates to how desperate we are.

 

I'd rather have Danny Graham back than Afobe...

 

A football rumours website says we are interested in signing him.

Fairly similar to Gray’s goals per games ratio with us and Burnley last season.

I don’t want Afobe but those stats are potentially distorted as he’s made a lot of sub appearances. He seems to have played 2921 prem league minutes for Bournemouth which is about 32 full games. Still don’t rate him though.

 

Afobe deal comes down to price for me. I do think he is useful but wouldn’t want to pay any more than 10m for him. 20m would be outrageous for the reasons you mention. And if it’s a straight replacement for Deeney then it is a downgrade.

 

Surely he’s not on 110k per week?

 

I believe £110,000 a week would get you Giroud from Arsenal
