Barnsley 1-0 Watford Fc - 31/10/2020

I just want to see a good performance - courage and intensity in our play.... to play progressively - we need some urgency and a huge improvement in our passing..... get that and the results will follow - in truth I am fed up with the rubbish performances we have been subjected too over the past 18 months - (bar 1 or 2 exceptions).

I think my original post here was well-reasoned to be fair. All the things I listed have happened on more than one occasion this season. The players featured in the media build up haven’t actually then started the match. The club have twice announced the same player twice on their official line-up reveal tweet. Etc etc.

I didn’t actually tip us to lose either, so it wasn’t so pessimistic. Realistically, based on what’s gone before, if we win it will probably be a sneaky 1-0.

Our away form remains a source of worry. Only one win since January. So it’s fair to assume it won’t be a rout. I think a draw is the most likely outcome, but obviously I hope we can win.

 

We know already. Saturday night early evening general rage. Pause for Saturday night out. All day Sunday bickering. Monday a few bells will come and talk solemnly about arrogance and entitlement. Tuesday we go again.

 

No but...."Andre Gray and Will Hughes are expected to play some part in this weekend’s game at Barnsley, while striker Troy Deeney could be available before the November international fixtures." Good that they are at least back and not wiv da angles.

I have mixed memories of Barnsley. In the mid 1970s I was a student at Sheffield Uni and took every opportunity to watch Watford if they were playing up that way.
During the match Luther Blisset missed a sitter and we lost 1 ~ 0. But in the second half Basrnsley brought on Brian Joicey who was immediately crippled by a tackle
by Sam Ellis. Ellis was booked, but these old Barnsley supporters near us were angry that the ref didn't appreciate that Joicey and Ellis were old old Wednesday team
mates and he was "forced" to kick him.

 

If I squint at this post, it looks like Burnley vs Watford and I can pretend we’re still in the same league.

Obviously whether it be Burnley or Barnsley, the result and the game will be just as tedious.

That game was about 12 hours after my Dad died suddenly Weird the way a bog standard game stays with you - I remember watching vacantly on sky soccer Saturday. Ngonge scored I think.

I thought that it was quite clear against Wycombe that we should have brought Murray on way earlier than we did, If I had the power to do so I would have done it at half time, they were playing so narrow and we had loads of opportunities to put the ball in the box but we rarely had anyone in there to aim for, the one time Sarr stayed central instead of on the right wing he scored. Was good movement from GM at the end to get his chance also. I hope we start him down the centre with Sarr and Pedro getting down the wings and putting the ball in the box for him.

 

Me too. I remember the ‘Tykes’ seemed to think they had derailed our promotion charge.

Every interview he does, he repeatedly uses the phrases "hard work" and "discipline", which is good in my book, but probably less popular with large parts of the current squad.

Reminds me of Holesbas' parting shot about how he would train much harder than a lot of the squad who were much younger.

 

For the end of the world to have much meaning, you need to not get quite so vexxed about the bumps on the way, otherwise you'll not be able to properly vent when it happens. If you utterly implode after an away draw, and declare all is lost, then where are you going to go if it gets worse? In short, I am somehow both suprised and not at all suprised by the reflexive nature of our fans reactions. This wasn't even a yeovil, let alone a grimsby 3-0 defeat, and yet its being held up as some sort of all is wrong with the world smoking gun. We've had a cautious but overall effective start to the season, we won't win every game, nor will we lose them. We will probably improve from here as players come back, gel, get used to systems etc. Lets not go overboard either way.
