Even the new man now understands how **** poor our **** ridden support really is.

Watford boss wants marching band for home games

Brendan Rodgers said he is keen to bring in his next “major” signing as soon as possible and who is his next target? - a marching band.

Watford’s manager has asked the club to try and recruit a musical band for each remaining home game after the visiting Alexis I Dupont High School Marching Tigers did such a good job in creating an atmosphere at Vicarage Road on Saturday for the FA Cup tie with Scunthorpe.

Club officials have already started making enquiries about the possibility of a local band taking the place of the Americans, who will be one of the groups performing at Barack Obama’s presidential inauguration.

Only 8,690 fans attended the weekend’s game but with help from the Delaware band, managed to create a fair amount of noise towards the end of the second half.

Scott Field, head of communications at Watford, said: “We are looking at getting people in every week. We have made a couple of calls already

“We already have our drummer in the Rookery, who is fantastic, but we would certainly be open to anyone wanting to do it.”

Watford skipper Jay DeMerit said the band helped create an atmosphere which “spurred” the players on.

Speaking on Saturday, the American said: “I thought they got the crowd really going in the second half and they really spurred us on. I was asking the manager after the game how much it would cost to get a band out every week, I don’t know if he agrees but they were fantastic.

“Anything that can help get a bit of noise going and keep us going is a bonus.”

Yep, perhaps they should just bring back the " canned cheering " via the pa system they had in the 1990's.

Its another blow for our yellow glad **** army, who insist on calling themselves " supporters."

LETS SEE HOW MANY TURN OUT TONIGHT. 500 TOPS.

Agreed...Saturday was definitely a one off. Some pikey school band from Oxhey would not really be the same. Do you remember the time when they tried to recreate a song that had been doing the rounds on the forums. It died a death. Having said that if we got 4 snares and two bass drummers at the back of the Rookery then it may create some sort of buzz.

On another note did anybody listen to BR on TalkSport yesterday. Wondered what he had to say

Many have said this on here before and I'm going to say it again!!!

If we want to improve the atmosphere in the ground we need a designated "vocal supporters area" or singing area if you like!!!

A few musical instruments in such an area "a la Sheffield Wednesday" might also be good, but primarily a special area of "The Vic" for those who want to sing along and chant is what is needed!!!

Well maybe if someone e-mails the club now they might make it happen if Brendan is that intent on improving the atmospehere

However, the "New" east stand, when it is built would probably be ideal for such an area!!!

If the club did what they did for the Palace playoff game (Rookery/Vic Rd End full of home fans) on a consistent basis I think it'd make for a better atmosphere. Before anyone says it's a 'safety' issue, Wolves do it and have no problems, as well as other clubs.

our home support is awful though.

the away team dont have to play good for the first 20mins to quieten us, because we never get going. Most of our supporters are moaners and get on the team back.

Very few clubs actually have a home support worth shouting about.

Completely agree, but the club would never dare move the lower rous season ticket holders for fear of the moaners moaning more.

If the players on the field put more into the game them this would get the supporters behind them more.
As we have seen in the past when the players put more into a game the supporters get behind them more by singing more

Our home support is the same as any other in the division - pish poor.

Every misplaced pass results in a whinge and a boo, but that happens at every_other_club.

Theo only difference is we pull a relatively small crowd, and now can't have anyone in the East side of the stadium.

Sheffield Wednesday have their band and Pompey have their chimes, so it isn't ridiculous.

Wouldn't want it though. I think Wednesday and Pompey are naff.

If some people want to indroduce a band..so what?
No..it shouldnt be neccessary. But in todays sanitised football grounds it clearly is.

No doubt it will upset the pre-pubescent green street boys...but then they can "jog on" to Millwall!

:dismay: Its things like this that made me glad i stopped my ST last year. PotGuy I know everyones home atmosphere has probably not what it has been but theres no denying ours is particuarly bad, theres still clubs that generate good noise at home in the championship and below. Are home support is embarresingly quiet. The biggest example i can think of was our promotion season and the two scum matches. At the kennel it was buzzing with l*ton and watford fans full going for it, loud, heated, passionate atmosphere. At the vic, what, one or two 'e-i-e-i-e-i-o..' and yellow army chants. Teams in the championship from where ive been last few years who spring to mind for decent home noise Bristol City, Cardiff, Stoke.

maybe with a stand simalar to the rous on the opposite side, (if it ever gets bloody done!) the rous stand fans would not moan quite so much, as they can still sit at the side.

tickets prices down to a fiver for kids, tenner for adults, cheaper in a family area somewere, and a normal, un fancy stand all the way down were the east stand is (no fancy 'bowl' stadium), and away fans in the lower rous, would do the atmosphere no end of good, filling stands more with cheaper prices, getting the club more money.

It's simple, the players have to show passion effort and skill in the market they are being paid many thousands of pounds a week for - when they show they are up for it, the crowd responds.

The crowd responds in dull silences because of poor quality players, lack of effort.

If they don't get in to the opposition and hassle and chase and give their all, then the crowd picks up on this and responds in the same manor.

Too many cold days have been spent in the rookery watching complete dross - boxing day being the most significant reminder.

It's all about the away support home fans never really sing unless u go pompy, newcastle ect
I would have the people who sing i would sit next to the away fans so half of the vic road end.

  25. Cude>2<

This is due to types of fans. A majority of people who go to home games will go only to the football, and then back home. Some will be to "upper class " to shout anything at a football match as they kind it either rude, or embarrassing and quite often get disgusted at people who do it.

People who go to away games usually make a day out of it and will hit the booze etc and have a few on the train/pubs and will sing as they don't give a shyte and do it as they're drunk anyway. This is proven by the Adebayor song that came out last season... Quality! :]]

The atmosphere at home has never been that great - even in the halcyon days of the GT era - I remember him coming out on the pitch with an "I'm sorry" banner after he'd lambasted the fans for a poor atmosphere, and then felt the fans backlash in the Wobby.
Cude is spot on with his whole awayday "day out" theory, cos at home games, you just pitch up, watch a game, go home.
Is the answer to have a "home" pub....like the Red Lion ?!?!?!

How about rather than having fans on either end of the pitch, we have them on either side of the pitch, and move all the season ticket holders out of the Rookery into the East Stand?

Not a real suggestion, but think how annoyed you would be at being turfed out of your seat, before suggesting that the club turf me out of mine.

The atmos in pre **** vic end was way better, the pub was packed with lads singing before the match, and it just carried on straight into the stand.

Now we are just left with a collection of know - all yellow glad ****s, who wont know the words to any watford songs, useless you wrote them all down on sheet on a paper and passed them around before kickoff.

The **** ATMOS at home games is down to the fact the current generation of watford fans are both useless/lazy, and make no effort what so ever.

I couldn't agree more - those that say the atmosphere at the Vic was never great seem to forget that the Vicarage Road end had no roof!

There was plenty of singing in those days - a darn sight more than nowadays - it was just a shame it was not amplified by the end being covered.

Even when that end was developed the noise created by the fans was considerably louder than now, which I think was down to people being allowed to sit where they liked.

The advent of allocated seating helped kill it all at the Vic - as in many grounds - allowing too many people who wanted to be 'in the noisy bit of the ground' to infiltrate, without ever wishing to participate.

Coupled with over-oppressive stewarding, the obsession with all-ticket games/season ticket holders, the rocketing cost of admission/travel etc have all contributed to a different type of fan attending ...... 'posher' fans tend not 'get oiled' in the pub pre-match, preferring to get to the ground twenty minutes before kick off to watch the 'show' in sober silence, before dashing off home to watch the telly.

Agree here in a sense, but as my last post said, would you still be annoyed if there was a rous - esque stand were the east stand is? Nothing fancy like the bowl style they planned, just a nice, normal stand, just on the other side?

Very good post, nowadays, theres only really a handful who go to the pub pre match, usually meeting at around 11am.

Didn't we try a "singing area" a few years back. It failed.
