He had few chances in the first half, but went very close with a FK and a header. Been a bit anonymous in the 2nd half though.
A combination of that, and the fact that he simply has not been effective enough on the pitch in the last few months to justify a place in the starting XI.

Deeney unfortunately proving once again that when he’s up against any half decent CB, 9 times out of 10 he gets dominated. Mustafi pocketed him today.
Deeney’s comments in October were always likely to backfire, weren’t they? Then he followed up with a dreadful performance. Can’t think of a single thing he did well today. Someone, please? The overall performance wasn’t too bad, I thought. Especially the end of the 1st half/start of the 2nd. We had plenty of the ball and threatened occasionally but you can’t defend like that and expect anything from the game. It was far too easy for them to get in behind our slow back line. As well as Deeney I thought our other two most attacking players, Pereyra and Richarlison, were ineffectual as well. Pereyra can’t seem to beat a man one-on-one and lacks pace to play as a real winger. Richarlison much the same as we’ve seen for months now; trying to beat the whole defence and crack one in from 30 yards but instead getting crowded out and easily dispossessed. Definitely positives to take from that performance but plenty lacking as well. Need to stay off social media for a while after this one!
Could have been different had we taken the chances, especially, obviously the penalty. Didn't deserve to lose 3.0. Was a free hit and we missed. Disappointing but probably expected. Felt overall performance was ok
