Its about that time of year to start speculating?

So just for a bit of fun, has anyone got any realistic suggestions on who we might be able to get to replace Ben?

Depends if they go up, but Matt Murry at Wolves, despite being rather injury prone has always looked too good for the Championship

    Bouz Myhill (sp?) - Hull
    Stuart Taylor - Villa?
    Graham Stack - Somewhere
    Dimmfrfrgrg Konstargrtjgt - Hartlepool
Lee Camp - Derby (on loan at QPR i think)

Just a few suggests to stick in the mixer.

Hmm, well we will need someone with a decent kick if we are to carry on with the style of football we play and who is also dominant in the air and a shot stopper. So it will be pretty hard to find someone who can match him at an affordable price in this country so we may have to go abroad. Saying that, the keeper for Southend has looked decent on the few times I've seen him play.

Or how about Richard Lee, he's better than any keeper in the Championship and we have him here already!

Those are two I would definitely make bids for.

I don't see on what basis Richard Lee is "better than any keeper in the Championship". If you can't kick straight or command your defence well in the Premiership I don't see why being one tier further down changes all that?

**** kicking. why does everyone hold a big kick so high up the list of qualities?

expecting a goalkeeper to be able to kick is like expecting a plumber to be able to tap dance - its great if its there, but it doesnt really mater if its not.

lee is a great shot stopper, surely the most important thing?

and his kicking may not be great, but it has improved, and maybe we could come to terms with ben leaving by having the players play 5 yards deeper?

I'm not fussed about distance, I'm fussed about accuracy. One of the key reasons we've been relegated is that Foster seems to have forgotten how to kick straight and Lee never could. It's all about ball rentention in the middle of the park. And yes, Richard is a great shot stopper but that's where his greatness begins and ends. His command of the defence is woeful, simply abysmal, which has an effect on team unity all over the park. He's a useful sub but nothing more in my opinion.

I think there is certainly a good reason to bid for one of Kuszscak or Foster again next season. United aren't going to use all three. Out of the two of them I feel Kuszscak is the one that will be shown the door.

Agreed. Foster won't be leaving Man Utd at all next season - I personally think he'll be splitting the Gk role 50/50 with Van der Saar, though the 'expert pundits' don't agree.

For me it would be Stuart Taylor, Dimitri Konstantopolis, Aaron Flahavan or possibly Lee Grant (3rd choice at Derby now but was England under 21 and is local lad from Hemel).

Whatever the choice,I feel we must buy and certainly not loan again.

He has been sold to United, but the deal was that they would loan him to United first then at the end of the loan he would be transferred.

i reckon Dimitri Konstantopolis would be a top choice

It would be good if the keeper could get the ball out of our own half . My issue with Lee is that his kicking(out of hands and dead ball are so hit and miss .

His shot stopping is what I would expect of a goalkeeper , after all that's what his paid for.

Let's hope Foster puts in a good word for us at Utd and then we can slowly coax Kuszscak to Watford

I read somewhere that we're after Hammers' Jimmy Walker. After reading this on Wikipedia I guess I understand why Aidy wants him...:

"He is nicknamed "Wacka" because of the distance of his goal kicks"

    hoooof ...

F*** bringing in another keeper on loan... lets just buy one.

I reckon Aidy should play Scott Loach for at least a half against Newcy, just to see what he can do on the big stage.

Reports today say we're looking at Joe Anyon at Port Vale... 20 years old and alegedly one of the biggest kickers in the league!

Stuart Taylor is wasted sitting on the bench at Villa. Lee Grant is a good shout Timbers !

Are all very competant keepers, and if we were to get promotion, Kucack, Taylor and Poom could all handle it, and so could the others probably.

Good choice, but im not sure he would come to us. He could fit in in the premiership, and most people expect Watford to not bounce back up; so out of choice he may not come.

We should go for this `wonder kid` who is playing for Southampton - potentially better than Ben:

    Bartosz Bialkowski

    Position: Goalkeeper
    D.O.B: 06 Jul 1987

Polish Under 21 international goalkeeper signed for a nominal fee from Górnik Zabrze.
Six foot four and 13 stone, the promising youngster caught the eye of George Burley while on trial with Hearts. The Pole has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Southampton.
The 18-year-old has so far won only one Under 21 cap but is a regular for the Poles at Under 19 level and comes highly recommended by new goalkeeping coach Malcolm Webster.
He joined Gornik in 2002 and made his Polish League debut in October 2004 and made seven appearances for them before switching to Southampton where he quickly broke into the first-team at just 18.
He kept a clean sheet on his debut at home to Crystal Palace in January 2006 and had four shut-outs in his first six games before damaging cruciate ligaments in an FA Cup fifth round tie at Newcastle, an injury which put him out until September.

Now recovered and back playing for the Reserves to build up match sharpness.

What's clear is whoever Aidy brings in it's going to be the wrong keeper for most of you. :(

Lee is a great fall-back option, and given a run of matches could improve to be first choice, but we need someone else to compete for the No1 shirt. I've no idea who is realistically available though. We may need to use the summer to trial a few keepers in order to find our man.

We got Lee and Loach, that's all that's needed. Some people seem to underestimate Lee. I personally think he's up to Championship standard.

We desperately need a new No1 now.

Coco will be OK as back up again, Loach still has a lot of developing to do.

  35. PaddingtonsYellowArmy

    PaddingtonsYellowArmy First Team Captain

Agree with Jobby - Loach is not ready to be a back up goalie. Rich Lee should be allowed to fight for the no 1 spot and prove his critics wrong or his supporters wrong, either way next season Rich should be given a chance to make or break his career.

What i really don't want to see is a loan goalie - we need stability so the defence can grow and develop over the next couple of seasons knowing they have a competent keeper behind them.
