And the new Manager will be?

I'd guess that very nearly all press and punter speculation is based on stuff at this level. The bookies just rolling about laughing. However, I wonder how many people actually bet on managerial appointments.

Take a look at Fulham. Absolutely dreadful last year. Awful. Gave the job to Parker, and let him begin to implement the football he wanted, and begin deciding early who he wanted around, and who could move on.

Now they’re flying high in the Championship, with only a handful of regulars from last year contributing. This has to be our aim now, and proves that you can revamp the squad pretty quickly and find success if you’ve got a plan in place, and you stick to it.

Doesn’t mean Mullins should be the guy, but whoever comes in, they need to be the person we believe will take us back up. Forget a short-term appointment, it’s gone too far now. Our full focus needs to be on next season. We need somebody who comes in with their eyes on next season as much as anything. I dare say that such an approach will also bring better results this season, as he’s focusing on players who are genuinely playing for their future.

Equally, look at Brighton, who appeared to be in a steady state of decline. They made a great managerial appointment, backed him early and let him begin to reshape the team in his image, and now look a completely different team.

The journeyman approach isn’t what we need now. We need a long-term plan, and a manager who is going to come in and oversee a complete overhaul of this bloated, unmotivated, and frankly, not good enough squad.

SkyBet now have Nigel Pearson as odds-on favourite, from nowhere!!

I agree. But I think to do that now is to overly jeopardise our chances of staying up. I’m slowly coming round to the idea that we need an Allardyce to keep us up and then look at it again in the summer and decide whether the route you say is what we want, or whether we continue with say Allardyce.

I’d rather a Setien who would attempt it with good football as I think that is the best route to staying up. But I really don’t think that’s happening so I’m looking at the next best option IMO.

After last night, I just don’t think we can give it to Mullins. He should be moulded to take over in the future. It’s not fair to throw him in now.

I think I'll start a rumour that QSF heads the list for Everton. With Javi Gracia second.

Close the place down and chuck the key in the canal. I've nothing left, if I lived in Watford I would seriously think about going for pint in the Red Lion to cheer myself up. It doesn't get any lower than that

There's nothing to hang on to if we start employing managers I've actually heard of! What's next? The club giving us an update on injuries! I need cheering up. @NathWFC, do you fancy a pint?

If it's Pearson, I think some fans may need to now realise that the owners don't actually give a f*ck what the fanbase think or feel. They will tell you they do. But they don't.

Nigel Pearson? The Leicester reject who almost took them down? No thanks. I'd rather have Mullins.

That's not actually true. He was the catalyst for Leicester winning the Premier League. He was the real man behind that historic season. They won 7 of their last 9 games and Ranieri just carried his work on in the flowing season. They sacked him for non-footballing reasons. He couldn't conduct himself correctly having all sorts of anger issues, and what his son did was the last straw.

Regardless, he was sacked because he backed his son (who was filmed taking part in an orgy in Thailand whilst making racist comments) against the club. Some at Leicester have subsequently come out and called him a bully with anger issues.

He was also sacked earlier this year from his job at OH Leuven who ply their trade in the Belgian 2nd Tier - they were bottom.

Is that really how low we have to go?

Even I’m bored of the pussy-footing around now. Just f*cking go and get Allardyce and get moving.

So far we've had Hughton, Hughes, Setien, Fat Sam and now Pearson as the favourite for the Watford job.

We should start odds on who will be the next manager on top of the odds.

That quote was from Duxbury in October 2017, since which his noble policy has changed on at least two counts.

    (1) They sacked Silva that very season just a few months later (fair enough, they had to).
    (2) They made two knee-jerk decisions this season to fire Gracia and bring Flores back - I haven't seen anyone directly say that Gracia shouldn't have gone, but surely more than a few agree with me that we'd have had a fair few more points on the board if we'd retained him? True the start to the season was horrendous and the performance against Brighton after they scored was probably the worst I've seen under Gracia, but we were slowly improving, and the point at Newcastle may have been the turning point, rather than what the board believed to be the final straw that broke Javi's back.

With regards to Pearson, his record at Leicester was very good, but he's an angry man with anger issues. He was sacked by Leicester for basically embarrassing the club through his off the field issues. He then got a job at Derby, but quickly fell out with owner Mel Morris after he used drones to see how training was going on.

Not sure how he'd cope with Gino's micro-management approach at training. I just think he may be a decent enough coach, but he comes with some serious baggage and you know it's going to end badly. Best just to steer clear in the first place.

This is quite damning from Foster, stating the rot has set in and we need players who are prepared to fight and dig in. Sounds like he's having a go at the foreign players a bit. Clearly not a happy camp.

Probably the last two coaches never got to grips with the fighting for each other aspect, which tends to reflect the characters of Gracia and Flores. It sounds like it all got a bit too easy and comfortable. Both coaches are very nice and that lack of hunger within the team has gone on for too long.

Like I mentioned in a previous post, we need someone who the players will be a little bit scared of. With that in mind, maybe Pearson would be perfect, but only on a short term deal. It's bound to go wrong with him with his lack of respect for authority. But in for a short sharp shock, maybe that's what the players need right now.

I do want BFS because it automatically doubles our chances of staying up.

However, if we stay up have we had enough of a scare for those at the top to learn a lesson and make some adjustments to their style.

They're clearly no mugs but this summer stunk of arrogance.

    Anyone who goes into a season with Femenia, Janmaat, Kabasele, Cathcart, Dawson, Prodl, Holebas & Masina as their defensive options is either;

    a) very damn arrogant
    b) very bad at their jobs

    It's not b..

The most sense he has talked since wanting Agueroooo's shirt at City

We do need fighters. What we saw at Leicester was maybe a very small improvement, but all the tough talk in the world won't keep us up. We need to score goals, and that is what we lack as much as the fight.

We do need fighters. We also need thr courage to drop any of them who aren't committed, regardless of wages or talent. There's an old American story about a player on a last place team who had a good year and thus went in and asked for a raise. The manager told him... "Son, we finished last with you, we can finish last without you".
