I would say he has lost his confidence.Takes a long time to build and no time at all to lose. Shame really,I hope he recovers but I fear for him here. I fear for us watching him too,for that matter!
He needs to be kept. The fans need a boo boy and he fits the bill admirably (as he has been crap for several months). If he goes the FOTM will have no choice but to argue over Amrabat, Suarez, Holebas or the first new bloke that has a mis-step or a moment where they don't seem to be running at 120% of maximum speed.
Nnnnn sums it up perfectly. I was seriously impressed by him in his first few games but has since been replaced by a martian.
http://www.watfordfc.com/news/article/2016-17/160805-nyom-new-deal-3227646.aspx I await to see some people's meltdown to this news..
He looked absolutely brilliant at the start of last year. I even remember people claiming we'd have to fight off some big clubs to keep him this summer. No idea what happened to him, but we've seen that there is a decent player in there somewhere. Hopefully Walter can find help him rediscover his early form, though it's not looked too likely through pre-season.
Can't believe I have to sit through another 4 years of watching Nyom and Suarez. These long term lucrative contracts will be our downfall at some point.
I think it means either that he's going to play, or that he's going to stay and be very well-paid to mostly sit on the bench, or that we're about to loan him out (as with Vydra's deal last summer), or that this is a way of hiking up his transfer fee. I hope everybody now understands what this means.
Maybe the powers that be have followed the logic that, as he played well for the first few months of last season before regressing spectacularly, he has it in with good coaching behind him to find that form again and be a real asset. In our current environment, which is oft criticised for its rapid turnover and disposal of players, maybe this one bucks the trend.
Haha. This is the first time I have winced when I saw a new contract. Not that I think he is completely rubbish but because of anticipated forum/twitter reaction.
Not sure I've ever been so shocked by a new contract. He isn't a CB, he isn't a wingback so he doesn't fit the formation. He had 3 years left on his old deal, he won't be sought after and he was pretty dire most of last season. I cannot think of a single reason this makes any sense.
I'm going to guess he is off to Udinese for a season long loan. This contract was just to make sure if he has a decent season in Serie A and someone comes in for him, we can hold a much stronger stance on price.
Removing certain clauses and add-ons in return for a an extra year? Club might think it will be cheaper in the long term.
This is about leverage. A business decision not a football one. He has more value if he's under contract. If he can't cut it in this system, we'll loan him out somewhere, let him regain his form and then sell him on. This has nothing to do with the likelihood of him playing in the upcoming year here. That said, clearly his confidence is shot. If this helps him relax perhaps he'll turn round. He does have some value getting forward when he's in form.
Happy with this. Nyom was excellent for the first half of the season, so I don't see why he can't be again. Frankly, the second half of last season was a miserable void where the spirit at the team fell apart. Some players seem to get written off as ****, whilst others were victims of QSF. It's worth keeping players like Nyom on, just in case it's the latter.
Agree. With the exceptions of Cathcart, Britos, Ake and Gomes, no players were good for last few months of the season.
The one player, the ENTIRE site doesn't really want... A four year contract ! The worst bit.... If this had anything to do with/or has been rubber stamped by the new manager.. then baring in mind he's played him at centre back every friendly.. That's where he'll be playing next season :/
Nyom getting a new contract is strange but he isn't a bad player, constantly gets slated by the idiots in our fanbase for no reason. He has all of the key attributes you need to play the wide defender role in a back 3. Height, strength, pace, ability to defend both 1 vs 1 and in wide areas.
