All league teams have 'so called supporters' criticising their own players who are by rights at the top of their profession. Usually the culprits are half whit losers mouthing off to hide their own inadequate sad lives.

I probably would have done if I didn't use the self service checkouts. I mean, I think I'm better than all of them right? I can just do their job as effectively as any of them by just using the self service.

I suppose I just have to accept that like any club we have 'supporters' that are more concerned with their egos than the wellbeing of the football club. Of course there must be freedom of speech and discussion but sometimes there are consequences that although unintentional meant can damage our beloved club.

I'm not concered with my ego at all. I'm sure the well being of this club is in the safest hands it has has been in recent history. If supporters didn't complain or express opinion then we would accept mediocre performances therefore players would only give that each game. I'm not saying anything to bring the club into disrepute. If we want the best for this club, we have to accept from time to time performances aren't up to scratch. To me, it seems like you can't do that and just want to paper over it.

Performance is a key factor in sport, not only are you out to do the best for yourself but you have others relying on you too. I've learnt enough about performance in sport from my old man who has been a performance director for Team GB at 2 olympic games and 2 winter olympic games after Sochi in February as well as working in league football.

Saying Smith was dog**** was just a spur of the moment thing. I've said he was poor and didn't have a good game straigh after. It still seems that others can't accept that though.

It is daft to suggest that players would want to give mediocre performances if they could get away with it if supporters didn't scream and shout / post abusive comments. The owners and management staff are under huge pressure and have their own significant reasons not to fail. The players, especially within the present set up, know they can be moved on if they don't perform. Abusing them will not make them play better.

It is you that needs to accept that from time to time performances are below par, this happens in all walks of life.

I have watched Watford for over 50 years so i'm in a fortunate position to compare the talent within the present team to some pretty awful dross in the past. I did however support ALL players that put on a Watford shirt.

  13. ChrisG

    ChrisG Squad Player

Is by stating a fact that someone had a poor game an abusive comment? I don't think it is.

I accept that people have off days, always have, always will. What I don't understand is why people don't think it is acceptable to bring the subject up? In a world where analysis is a key part of football why is it wrong to discuss how bad someone is? We are the people that watch the games week in, week out. I may not have ever played a professional football match but I know a poor performance when I see one. Nyron Nosworthy had one of the worst at Vicarage Road wearing a Sheffield United shirt. I've never set out to abuse a player and will always support "the team" but individual performance stands out when others around you are performing better.

I've never once booed a player in my life for their footballing ability, have I questioned it? Yes.

Just because they wear the Watford shirt doesn't mean they are exempt from a few questions about their performance now and again.

Apart from calling one of our young players dog sh*t what other childish insults have you come up with recently?
I normally hear insults like that after some moron has drunk many pints of beer, much worst for you as I presume you were sober this morning.

You don't let up do you?

As for insulting him, I said he played like dog****. As in his performance was dog****. If you want that in a constructive term how about 3/10, well done for showing up. Performance needs to improve. The definsive midfield option needs back up that isn't Connor Smith. I watched him against Borehamwood preseason and he was excellent, he has potential. He played terribly on Tuesday.

As for having a clear and sober mind this morning, it was clear and sober when I was watching him on Tuesday night so that is what my judgement is based on. My moronic "insult" still stands.

Way ahead of you on Belkalem. Already stuck the foot in on a number of threads. Take your pick.

If people take a comment about their performance personally and want to deal with it with violence, then let them. I'd just take it as an incentive to prove them wrong and try harder. You can't polish a ****, despite what mythbusters say. Play football or serve me in a restaurant, if something is ****, it is ****.

I cannot imagine you describing Belkalem's equally poor performance against Charlton as dogsh*t to his face. It is cowardly to insult on a forum where the victim is unable to defend themselves.

I find it incredible and embarrassing that our so called fans are slating belkalem and acuna already!!

Both will turn out to be excellent signings and key members of our squad this season and forthcoming seasons. In fact, I'm extremely confident acuna will score 15 goals this season. BOTH have started ONE league game, for f**k sake. Belkalem wouldn't have had much of a pre-season and acuna had a decent pre-season for us.

People need to give acuna time to aclimatise and strike up a partnership. I went to reading away and was impressed with the link up between deeney, acuna and Fabbrini just behind them. It will happen for him, just be patient.

Why would I support Millwall or Leeds based on my judgements of how someone has played so far?

Get over yourself, I've made the call that Connor Smith played like dog**** on Tuesday night and that Belkalem hasn't played a game yet to make the position his own. They've got plenty of time to rectify that. It is beyond me that you have never got round to describing anything as ****. Maybe you're slightly more reserved than me, so be it. This isn't about insulting a player. This is a call based in a performance that was "below par" (I've used dog**** to describe it)

I've called nether player a ****. This has nothing to do with being an Internet forum or hiding behind what I had/have to say. This isnt about comparing one play against another, it is about individual performances during a game. If they asked me how they had played I'd tell them it wasn't very good. I might even use the word ****. Take off the yellow tinted glasses. Our players have bad games too and it is a discussion point. Different people use different words.

Those who tend to take the time to engage with and get to know one of their venomous internet critics tend to find they remain a critic, but lose the venom. I believe being critical is perfectly acceptable, but I don't think there is any need to be venomous, and especially not during games.

Many people lose all sense of decorum behind the isolation of a keyboard. I've got no doubt that many of the posters here communicate in a completely different fashion face-to-face.

  25. ChrisG

I don't believe for one second that I've been venomous. I maybe could have chosen my words but if you have never described anything bad/poor/not good as "****" then I'm genuinely shocked.

You are correct, I wouldn't call out Smith and say he was **** to his face but I'm not going to make it out that he was amazing and act like he's the best thing since sliced bread because he wears a yellow shirt.

I hope we draw a line under this. Being critical of a performance is all part of being a supporter as well as the glory. You cant just ignore the bad things and have tunnel vision about it, because if that we're the case we had a great game at Wembley in May!
I'm pretty sure very few people stuck up for Scott Loach when he was actually verbally abused about his performances.

I would imagine any player having their play described as dogsh*t would not feel it was an opening discussion point. You seem a bit like the short spivvy character with the trilby & moustache in 'only fools and horses'. He is all bluster. I can imagine you putting Belkalem straight then quickly running out the door!!!

During the season launch evening last week Deeney specifically mentioned the abuse the players often read about online. They do read our comments so maybe more encouragement and less vitriol is called for.

The only point I want to make is that this is entertainment. We are paying the club, for some of us a really significant amount, to watch a performance. We are paying their wages, giving them a nice comfortable lifestyle; all they need to do is to turn up to training for a couple of hours a day, then play a 90 minute game once or twice a week. Now personally I would never criticise a young player too much, and I am far less critical of how a young player plays due to their lack of experience. But fans have a right, as a paying customer, to demand improvement. If a singer turned up for a concert and was terrible, I'm sure many would boo and ask for their money back. Even avid fans. A theatre actor would be slaughtered for their performance, if they did not show up on the day. What is so different about football players? Why can we, as football fans of the same club and who finance these individuals, not say in the privacy of a football forum that a player was rubbish during a match? Are footballers really that precious, that they scroll forums and see that fans thought their performance was poor, and then cry about it? Even if they do, you suggest that they and the manager would already know and probably would have talked about how they played, so it would come as no surprise. Even if they did find out, they should (unless unprofessional) use that as motivation to work harder.

Dogshi*e is a fair enough way of saying 'very, very poor' in my opinion.

I've not eaten nor had relations with dogshi* by the way.

The discussion has been about calling a young Watford player's performance, who has incidentally just returned from a long spell of injury, dog sh*t. It is not acceptable. I'm sure he would not mind his play described as 'not good enough' or even 'poor'. Insulting our own players will not motivate them to work harder.

So you're slating someone on the internet after they have an opinion that differs to yours and I'm the fictional character? Nice one buddy. What does Belkalem "catching me" have anything to do with this? I'm sure if he does he'll agree that he hasn't settled in yet and hasn't done anything to turf Lloyd Doyley out of his position.

Either way, get over yourself. If you're so hung up about me making a judgement on a player after what I've seen isn't it slightly hypocritical to judge me on my appearance and my intelligence after a few posts on here?
