No such thing as Top 7! There’s Top 6...and 7th.

    Not really - the 10 seasons previous to that we finished 5th, 6th, 7th, 7th, 8th, 5th, 5th, 6th, 11th, 4th

You're not wrong - we have become the textbook case of how not to spend money. We were better when we were skint but had a management structure etc which were stable and unchanging for over a decade.

Since then we have thrown money around without any semblance of a long term plan.

Still - I'm far more optimistic about our prospects under Ancelotti and Brands than I was about Koeman, Silva etc etc. At least this time if it goes wrong, it isn't because we've got a bad coach.

As he showed against Cardiff Huddersfield amd Norwich in the last 2 seasons. Against a championship defence he's world class.

Agreed both on the pitch we had a real threat. However, worth remembering we technically beat Liverpool without Geri.

Some gormless little twerp on SSN (Jayzee ?) is burbling on about how Doucoure "kept his level" last season and much more gibberish besides.
I must have watched a different player in that case.
Necessary requirements to appear on Sky appear to be a daft shirt,a medalion outside your jumper,a la Del Boy and a Twitter account.

Surprised if £22m is the figure. Seems extremely low to me. If that's true then Everton have the bragging rights on this deal. Poor piece of negotiation from us I'd say.

Widely reported as £8m up front, with instalments making it up to £22m. A possible further £3m add-ons depending on certain objectives.

I think it’s at the very bottom end of the acceptable spectrum.

Perhaps the low figure just confirms what we all suspect and that's it's a buyers market right now.

According to most of the accountants on here, we need to sell to reduce costs and pay down debt. We might just have to suck it up and sell a few players at bargain rates to do that in the current market.

Anyway, bye Doucs, thanks for the memories.

I don't have an opinion about the installments bit, you'll get the money in the end. The £22m rising to £25m was in the region of what I thought would be acceptable from our POV, I was kind of expecting you guys to think it was too low.

  24. A lot of transfers are done in instalments including ours

    A LOT.

Not a bad deal, we are a Championship team after all with a player who does not want to be here one bit.

Even thought £15 million less than Ake is a bit of a joke but then again he cost Bournemouth £20 million in the first place so profit wise figures are probably similar.

Don’t be surprised, make the most of it. We won’t be selling players for £20 million + again unless we get out the league first time this season. When we’re battling to stay out of League One over the next few seasons we’ll be wistfully looking back on these deals when we could sell players like this and Richarlison to Everton as halcyon days!

Not thrilled with that, but I’m assuming it will reach £25m and won’t depend on anything mad like a top 4 finish or an international call up.
We have to accept that he’s had a poor season, we were relegated and he wants to go. With the pandemic on top of that the fee was never going to be optimum. All we had going for us was his long contract but with his wages even that’s a bit of a poisoned chalice.

As with all transfers we’ll only know who got the better deal in hindsight.

The £8m yo front just means the first instalment by the way.

Not to be confused with £8m plus add ons.

Might be over thinking it but perhaps Pozzo thinks the pound is weak at the moment and better to get the remaining £14m when the pound is stronger?

Can you think of any other club paying that much on a 27 year old overseas player from a relegated side?

  33. AndrewH63

    AndrewH63 Reservist

Do you mean its better to get the £14 million when it buys more in €? I would think that is irrelevant as the balance is presumably to be paid to a UK company and to be reported in its accounts. I will guess they agreed a lower overall fee with a big amount upfront. £8m now from £22m is better than £5m now from £25m.

Moshari was pissed how we’ve squeezed so much out of him so used all the Doucouré negativity on this forum to cut the price.

“Look Mr Pozzo, your ITK fans on wfcforums all say how poor Doucouré has been for 2 seasons. You know it, I know it, your fans know it. How can you expect us to gamble more than £22m...”

The wheel has turned and it’s all our fault (except me of course), and now we say how surprised we are.
    Foot, shoot etc
