We've been talking a lot about atmosphere on here recently.

I love how the Irish were at the last major champs, their singing was amazing and i loved their 'Fields of Athenry', maybe we could adopt that as our song. It would be great to here the song sung by the watford faithful. Especially as the crowds grow at the vic when we are in the Prem.

I did last season post lyrics to a song but it was ignored.

All round the fields of Vicarage road,
Where we once watch king luther play, and he could play,
    Graham taylor was our king,
we had dreams and songs to sing
of the glory round the fields of vicarage road

Lost every game and scored 1 goal (and that was a defender). A good atmosphere can be overrated.

Their fans were voted the best wernt they, and im not surprised as they were in full voice even when losing.

I think Fields of Athenry would be great to sing.

    wolves have Hi how Wolverhampton

    Forest have Mull of Kintyre

Watford should sing Fields of Athenry

    By a lonely prison wall
I heard a young girl calling
Michael they are taking you away
    For you stole Trevelyn's corn
So the young might see the morn.
Now a prison ship lies waiting in the bay.

    Chorus
Low lie the Fields of Athenry
Where once we watched the small free birds fly.
Our love was on the wing
we had dreams and songs to sing
It's so lonely 'round the Fields of Athenry.

    By a lonely prison wall
I heard a young man calling
Nothing matters Mary when you're free,
Against the Famine and the Crown
I rebelled they ran me down
Now you must raise our child with dignity.

    Chorus

    By a lonely harbour wall
She watched the last star falling
As that prison ship sailed out against the sky
Sure she'll wait and hope and pray
For her love in Botany Bay
It's so lonely 'round the Fields of Athenry.

    Chorus

Dream on. Watford fans struggle with remembering the words to Yellow Army.

But would you try and learn it. when we go up at Wembley and the words to the fields of Athenry

Just the thought of singing that disgusting Paddy song makes my skin crawl. Would rather shriek Yellow Army non stop.

No offence to any Irish on here like.

It's already Liverpool and Celtics song, I reckon you need something original. I've always thought We are Sailing by Rod Stewart would sound amazing!

Whilst I appreciate the sentiment I don't think you can just pluck a random song to be "our" song, it has to be something connected

    Your song by Elton John.

    You can tell everybody,
    We are the horrrns.
We used to play hoof ball,
    But now we don't

    I hope you don't mind
    That we scored a goal
    How wonderful we are
With gold on the shirts. Etc

    Etc

Why would you want to try and take a political song about potatoes and make a football chant about it? It would be a shameless rip off of Celtic too.

Not only that but can you see Watford Dave getting his head round it?

That song has nothing to do with Watford. If you read the lyrics it is about oppression in Ireland, and it is sung in Ireland not just at football. The reason it sounds so good is that it is a passionate song to the Irish, not football fans.

Fields of anfield road is the most cringeworthy song I've heard from a football team.

Would rather go and watch Luton than sing a republican song like that.

  19. Here's a cracker...

Was on CP forum and one of their sigs is 'and that's the way I like it' from that chant they nicked and has now become universal. Which made me think 'KC and the Sunshine Band'

    oooooooooh
    Matt's the way (ah-ha ah-ha)
    I like it (ah-ha ah-ha)
    Matt's the way (ah-ha ah-ha)
    I like it (ah-ha ah-ha)

Well, I thought it was good.........

I love the Fields of Athenry. Brings goosebumps whenever I hear it. The Irish rugby fans do it best. Unfortunately will obviously never catch on due to its lyrical content, and there's no way people will learn a new version simms.

Matt's the way is quite funny, you should see if you can get that started when he scores next.

Definately agree with this! I've been saying for years watford need some sort of 'anthem' I can just imagine us belting it out in the Prem - dont think liverpool fans would be too happ though!

You want to sing an Irish song, set in the time of the potato famine and that has undertones of anti-British sentiment? I'm all for an 'anthem' but perhaps not something with so much meaning that has sod all to do with us.

Your song By our very own EJ should be our song, no word changes and just use the chorus over and over again, just as it is!

Having said that a one word change might be appropriate; perhaps we could change "Your Song" to "Our Song"?

As someone who lost a cousin to the Republicans who bravely blinfolded and shot him in the back of the head you can imagine how thrilled I'd be if we started singing this FFS.

Should definitely be a song by EJ, such as Candle in the Wind. Nobody cares about Diana anymore, so we can nick that and rehash it to be about Doyley, the Queen of our Hearts.

The Wanted - Glad You Came is a good shout too. Aren't the Wanted Watford fans?

On a serious note, anybody who brings Irish style Sectarianism to Watford, of either kind, can just **** off and die as far as I'm concerned.

    woah oh oh oh ohhhh.....

They did actually perform in Charter Place once, I was walking past and every 14 year old girl from the surrounding shops appeared from nowhere, it was weird. They're clearly Hornets at heart...

This song is not the right one for so many reasons. The mere mention of it has upset some posters on here. It has no connection with the club and has been adopted by other clubs and countries. For the record, it is a ballad referring to an historical context. It is an OK tune, but is better as an anthem for an Irish national team (or Galway team).

Yellow army will have to suffice for the time being.

How about a one direction song? Easily adaptable and not too many lyrics, more na na na na na - quite easy for our fans, even the drunks/thickos can sing it.

It would need a complete rewrite in order to be acceptable.

Low lie the allotments of Watford
Where once we watched the runner beans grow.
    Macnamee was on the wing
we had dreams and songs to sing
It's so muddy 'round the allotments of Watford.
