That's why I said I don't see why I'm arguing it anymore. I was arguing 2 points from different sides. You can resent what I say all you like, you are entitled to. As I said first, this is a stupid argument. Also, people seem to be taking this as a personal attack on them, it isn't

This is the point isn't it? Most people I'd say like an atmosphere in the ground but not everyone wants people constantly standing in front of them and of course nothing can get going with isolated pockets of 10 people. Getting organised is the key - there's no doubt that a group of 200 or so well organised and in the right place can allow a song to spread....then you'll get people around the rest of the stand, and other stands joining in.....even if they're sitting down.

I sat in 205! Sung my heart out with Skeggy while we sat in the f***ing corporate, "Daddy bought me a ticket" crew.

We were looked at like nutta's - but we tried to do what we could to get the team going. We weren't drunk, weren't unpleasant, we just sung out hearts out.

I think there is a stereotype (highlighted by the OP - I'm reading between the lines) that if you sing your scum and if you sit down your middle class?

  5. Next time, if it comes to it, the club should say 'blocks 205 and 206 (for example) will be singing and more boisterous sections. DO NOT buy tickets in these sections if people singing and standing is likely to impinge on your enjoyment. ' Easy in hindsight, but also in foresight!

It is true and universally agreed that standees are lower class and sitters middle class.

The solution is really very simple.

One area for singers. One area (or two, one each side of the singers) for the more relaxed crowd.

Everyone gets what they want, and we have an atmosphere again.

The main issue is actually implementing it, especially with a 3 sided stand.

Problem is all st's renew their current seats .some sing some don't. When e stand finally built perhaps club can think about everone having to reapply for sts putting proviso on tickets saying that if u don't like singing /poss satnding don't renew in certain blocks of rookery. At least people will know what likely to happen if they ignore advice.
In the old days singing sections just formed naturally as u could stand where u wanted. Lack of atmosphere is excacerbated by all seater stadia / designated seats. Fact.

Why is there a belief from all the “real supporters” that you have to stand up to sing. You can sing sitting down and then maybe the people around you will join in rather than be moaning about the fact they can no longer see the action. When something exciting is happening or building up then standing is a natural reaction and I am sure most people accept this. I came away from Wembley with a sore throat through shouting support and joining in with the singing when it was happening around me but like to spend most of my time sitting. Sitting or standing, singing or not is not a measure of your commitment to the club and level of support.

As many people have said there needs to be a solution found that enables those who enjoy standing and singing most of the time to be in the same area but the answer is not simple even within this group there will be differences of opinion on where this should be.

  11. The only people who sing sitting down are Val Doonican and Peters from Peters and Lee. Oh, and Robert Wyatt.

There is a reason for this.

Everything was so much simpler in the old days. If you wanted to sing you stood on the terraces and if you wanted to be at the core of the action you stood behind the goal.

Families sat in the Junior Hornets section and the rug and flask brigade in the stands

Unreserved standing meant you could move away from people if was too noisy or quiet or there was the odd bit of bother and as for facilities the vic road end had open air bogs which was all that was needed.

The whole singing issue could be resolved with pockets/stands of unreserved in the right areas of the ground and maybe when allocating tickets for away fixtures there should be a singing yes option or a singing no option

Its blindingly obvious to me that the Rookery should have unreserved seating but this is only really likely to happen when the East Stand is rebuilt.

I agree getting organised like that in the future is the way forward and not just for the big days out at wembley either. Though in fairness at wembley for most of the match it was only that group of palace supporters that made any noise - the rest of their fans where for the most part as quiet as ours until they scored.

I am a couple of years shy of fifty at wembley on monday I had a gent of my own age ish asking me to sit down we were in a group in 115 that was trying to make some noise to spur the lads on , I politely said to him that if he wants to sit at a final he should watch the game on the tv from his sofa! FFS if you wish to sit at entertainment!! go to the theatre cinema or bloody library . It was the most important game for the club in 7 years and we as a fanbase blew it , palace were a damn site better at making noise and bouncing around and a few of their eagles chants were very loud and must have lifted their players ,they were the 12th man ,we were not end of.
in the future we need to learn to make some noise , we need the club to accomodate a singing area behind the goal in the rookery for a start ,and we as a fan base need to get of our arses and open our mouths , not slamming other teams but supporting our own .

Bloody hell I was in the prawn sandwich brigade and they were happy for me to stand and sing whenever I wanted. I was also sat next to an Italian Ian McShane and a couple of other Italian blokes.
