A shadow of the side we were under Sannino

    Well you've convinced me...Garcia out.

I'm going to disregard the injuries and also the fact that coaching these formations and his philosophy hasn't been possible because of circumstance and that maybe a month of said coaching could actually get the desired results and performances.

I'm going to base my reaction on 3 days of his influence...I'm on board...GARCIA OUT!

  2. Stop jumping to conclusions

Agreeing with the OP that we are (right now) looking a worse team than were were under Beppe does not automatically mean I want Garcia out

I want him to slow down, stop trying to change everything (from a hospital bed) until he's had time to properly look at the squad, understand what he's got and what he needs, and what has to wait until the transfer window in Jan

Sorry but your posts on other threads suggested otherwise....in which case I stand corrected.

We don't look a worse team under Garcia.

We were all over Charlton and Blackpool, and yesterday was our first average game in which we still got a point.

Unbelievable levels of overreaction and moaning.

To change the basic formation a team plays requires a lot of work on the training ground to get the players used to the new system. To play the "new" formation yesterday after such a short space of time much of which our new boss has spent in hospital was a very stupid thing to do and it showed by the fact that the players looked totally baffled half the time.

It is a shame for whatever reason that we have changed managers. It has undone all the work in preseason and the players will now have to take time to come to terms with OG's philosophy (love it or hate it) and he really hasn't had much time to work with them with the international break and his illness.

The midfield is all over the place and unable to control the pace of the match, protect the defence and create enough quality chances for Vydra or Deeney. It is amorphous without pattern. Whether it is down to Garcia being absent in person who knows. However we were shambolic against a pitiful Blackpool amd rather fortunate to scrape a point yesterday albeit Bournemouth have been impressive against Norwich and Forest.

Against Charlton but for poor finishing we should at least have gained a point. The situation with OG is up in the air and there may be more upheaval. It's not the way the club had been run traditionally but is something we have to expect under the Pozzo regime.

Don't disagree with much of that Squibs, but I don't agree with us being shambolic at Blackpool. I saw a WFC side who've won only 2 league matches on the road in 11 months travel to one of our traditional bogey grounds with all the disruption of losing our head Coach to hospital, and take on a side who this week have held both Wolves and Brighton to 0-0 draws, and record a win, in which only the woodwork and the opposition keeper prevented us scoring more. It wasn't a great performance admittedly, but I'm not sure it can be called shambolic considering all the factors.

The Pozzos can run the club exactly how they want it as is their right as owners.

They have done quite a few things right but how about admitting the truth that not only are they making some terrible mistakes they are also not learning from them.

People on here laughably believed that firing Sannino would unite the whole squad. Since he has left it has become markedly more obvious that there are divisions in the squad and that the air of arrogance that we saw last season has returned.

We were playing wonderful stuff under Sannino from the opening day of the season and that rotten attitude had disappeared.
For no reason whatsoever the Pozzos have destroyed that. It is nothing short of madness.

If they want a squad full of players (with the obvious notable exceptions) and a management who act as if they are in a living nightmare whereby they are actually world class players who have suddenly been transported into the second division of English football then that's their prerogative as owners. It is however a nonsensical shame.

Garcia should be let go. The Pozzos should admit their mistake and pay the mans contract in full and let him recover. They should go back cap in hand to Sannino and apologise for what is akin to a manic episode.

I believe that Beppe genuinely had a love for the club and more importantly its supporters.

If the Pozzos were to travel to Sicily, apologise in person and promise that if he returned he would be free of interference and would have their full support when it came to players who weren't towing the line then I am of the belief he would return after payment of appropriate compensation to Catania.

As of this moment it is not an irrevocable mistake.

I'm amazed at you meldrew. Beppe punted out the same old platitudes every manager/head coach/captain/player does when they're tee'd up for the "and what did you think about the fans today?" question by Jon Marks for the radio or Richard Walker for the website. It's text book these days. Usually that's the exact sort of thing you see right through (and say so) yet here you are doing the opposite.

Unless stupid money is offered, I don't think Beppe would even consider dumping on his new club like that. I'd love it if he could be brought back, but it ain't gonna happen.

He was playing the game and if you knew Italian football you'd understand the power the 'Ultras' have over there...get the Ultras on your side and it puts you in a stronger position against owners.

  18. meldrew

There are no 'Ultras' at Watford.

If you knew Italian football you'd understand that if the players and management don't perform then they are afraid to show their faces in the city.

If the Pozzos brought back Steve Perryman as boss with Glenn Roeder as assistant Watford fans would still probably clap them into the dugout.

  19. I think he loved the experience of managing in England

I also think we'd be top tonight if he was still here...

and if it ever transpires he was fired so fringe players Mcgugan, Dyer and Regie can feel better about themselves then I shall boo Gino loudly...

However, I'll eat my hat if he comes back

If Beppe's respect for the fans were simply to keep them onside when asked by Frank Smith/Jon Marks etc, why bother to continue to compliment the supporters after he'd left, in various interviews?

If we want Beppe back, I would suggest at the next home game we applaud on two minutes to celebrate his two away wins while in charge of us.

Because we all know English fans in general are much better than what goes on in modern Italian stadiums. More passionate and supportive, less abusive and intimidating. Stadiums filled much nearer capacity too. So like many people who have gone from Italian football to English football and then been interviewed by their native media he pointed this out. He's far from the first person to have done that since the Pozzos came in and Italian media sources starting interviewing people with Watford links.

It will never happen, purely because if the rumours of how disliked he was are true it would completely destabilise the squad.

Keeping a disliked coach in his job is one thing; the squad might not like the status quo but they'll deal with it.

Seeing him leave the club and then come back a few weeks later would completely undermine their relationship between the owners and the club, though.

I don't disagree that the vast majority of managers use the same old platitudes, but I think it was readily apparent from Beppe's interviews that he wasn't a sugar coating type. He plainly spoke his mind, no frills. If he couldn't give an honest answer he flat out refused to answer the question, and he never struck me as the type to say what he didn't mean just to suck up to certain people.

Lets face it, how many other managers have we had who called themselves a d***head in an interview, or described themselves as having big balls? The man is very atypical.

Keep the faith chaps. I'm sure you'll gather pace and make a proper go of it this year. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see you and Cardiff leapfrog Forest and Norwich by Christmas. It's all about gathering momentum and quality always shines through in the end, Watford have one of the best and most experienced squads. You can do it, Garcia's only had a couple of games and the chopping and changing can't have helped anyone settle yet.

I genuinely love reading all opinions on this forum, even if they're not the same as mine, because it's healthy and good to see things from a different perspective and to read a viewpoint that I've not considered before. I have sympathy with the view that Beppe was harshly treated. I believe summer was the time to make the change, not when we did. It's a strange situation that the Pozzos got rid of Dyche after he lost just 1 of his last 13 matches, and Beppe when he'd won 4 of his first 5 this season. I wonder if we will ever know the full story?

One thing I don't agree with though is the assertion that things are less happy now than they were 2 weeks ago..that the squad looks more disunited and arrogant now than before. I'm interested to know on what that assertion is based, and I ask nicely, not confrontationally. In our final match of last season it appeared the squad were 'refusing to play' for the Head Coach after a huge row broke out about extra training (I'm not saying they were right to have this attitude, I'm just stating what we perceived had happened). This season a player scores and yells abuse at the coaching staff, another is dropped from the team because of an alleged physical incident with the Head Coach. Again I'm not saying any of the players involved behaved anything but badly..but I can't see why since Garcia came in (and promptly disappeared again) people might think things have got worse on that front?

The old saying seems apt: when the cat's away, the mice will play.

Our old battle-scarred tomcat left the WFC house for pastures new and the replacement had to go for an extended stay at vet right after arriving.

A perfect situation for mice to play.

But where's the evidence, that's what I'm asking? Where are the visible signs of disunity over the past 2 weeks? The visible signs of some trouble behind the scenes were apparent in Dyer's protests and the Huddersfield attitude/performance etc, but where are the visible signs now?

I believe we all see what we want to see. Emotions and pre-set opinions come into it. Beppe wasn't Zola so some people found it harder to adjust to him. Garcia's come in and he's not Beppe, so for some he's already public enemy Number One. Fair enough. It's all about opinions. Some people seem to have swallowed the hype that we're brilliant and have the best squad in the league and that we should be romping the division and thrashing everybody out of sight while playing like the great Brazilian sides of the past in attack and the mean Italian sides in defence. None of our opponents are permitted to be any good, they must all be put in their place! Again. it's all about opinions!

I dream of the day later this season when hopefully things all come together and all the good people on this forum unite as one to say 'well done team, well done coaching staff, well done owners..seems you did know a thing or two after all' and we can all unite in cheering our beloved team all the way to the Premier League. And if it should happen, everybody will deserve credit..Beppe, Zola, Garcia etc.

Sorry Malt, but the evidence is clear from a 1-1 draw at home to non-league Bournemouth that all is not well in the camp.

Add to that the fact that Deeney was happier hanging out with Peter Beagrie than his own squad, the manager is faking an illness as he can't stand the sight of the squad, Lloyd Doyley has disappeared, Tamas failed to get sent off so faked an injury and Dyer walked slowly off the pitch when substituted.

All cast iron signs of disunity.

The only things I've seen personally was Dyer having a barney with Gomes and Dyer losing his rag over decisions going his way.

As for anything else, you'd have to ask the people who have made those statements.

Bearing in mind we've just lost a harsh disciplinarian and now have no one at the helm, however, it's easy to see why slippage might happen.

It's clear to me we re lacking 2 things... Our leader on the pitch... And an experienced Championship manager!
The players may not have liked BS but this worked for us, being rallied but Deeney and you could see we're almost wanting to put it in to prove him wrong... The first 35 mins on Sat we were second to everything and just stood shaking heads and shrugging... My boy asked me what formation we were playing.. Quite frankly it changed with EVERY substitution it looked like the players didn't know.. I couldn't answer... We seemed to force a risky tip tap about at the back until we managed to get it to Toszer who would float a wrong choice ball forward...
The performance was disappointing but I suppose we have to bare in mind we have injuries, players coming back, a new manager and we be lost our Capt and leading scorer... We re 4th and picking up points ! The real judgement will be at Christmas when players and staff have had their warm up !!

Yes but it could also be argued for most of last season we ended each game slowly and that's a lot worse.
