Loach, Bond, Almunia not to mention Bonham... you could make video's like that of most of our recent keepers
Why does everyone slate our goalies! loach is league 1 standard but we didn't have money for a replacement, bonham wasn't ready and all bond needs is games somewhere. Still a good prospect who could play prem standard one day IMO. Almunia was a great free signing and over the last 30 years we have had many quality goalies admittedly thrown in with the odd ******* and digweed. Gomes is easily worth the gamble of a 12 month contract. Could be the signing of the season though hopefully not POTS!
You could make a video like that about every single keeper. Not everybody will be happy with every signing but give the guy a chance ffs. Played 200 plus games at the top level or would Flat Back Four have been happier with a keeper from the club that just finished bottom of The Championship. Some of our comments are just embarrassing.
It's funny when I see fans turning up their noses, initially, to players like Gomes. I seem to remember the same opinions were cast over Almunia before he came, but that didn't turn out too bad did it? Gomes will be an excellent signing, with all his experience and quality. We've been quite lucky with our keepers in the past, and fans traditionally have a good rapport with these players. Gomes will be another to continue that relationship.
You could make a similar video of mistakes for most keepers in the world. Not many can make some of the saves that Gomes has made though. Very good keeper, easily Championship quality. Good signing.
A spurs supporting mate of 20 years told me that redknapp tore into him every time the team lost and his confidence was shot to bits after that. There's a reason PSV fans would have him back, plus, if there want you tube and someone told you we have just signed a keeper that has played for psv and spurs, played champions league and been capped 11 times by Brazil, they'd be jizz all over this forum. Give the lad a break.
Also, well done Nani! Gets slated but (along with Gino) has convinced another Premier League keeper who has bags of top level experience to drop down to the Championship. Even though Heurelho himself said he had other offers.

Some Watford fans. The vast majority will be delighted with this signing. Once again I find myself amazed at the kind of player we can attract to our Club. This sort of signing, so early in the closed season, can only help as it says we mean business and it will help us retain/sign other quality players. Let's hope we have coach that can piece them all together into a tight knit unit. Whoever it is.
How many games has he played in the last couple of seasons. He's going to be a rusty version of the Tin Man
When you look at the last few signings, Toszer, Riera, Dyer and now Gomes, you can see the calibre of player coming to the club has now gone up a notch or two. Long may that trend continue.
I saw it quoted that Riera is on huge wages 1.2 million euro's a year, I hope we don't start paying players that some of money loan or not it still come out of our budget surely
it's a surprising signing for a Championship club, but we need a keeper with a reputation for giving his back four confidence.....Gomes is just not that. He will be an amazing shot stopper, but not what we need.
