As I said earlier in the thread, the system works as it means we don't have to elect yet another in-it-for-themselves politician to be president.

Would the president have to be a politician, though?

Perhaps some kind of businessman. Involved in property maybe. Just a regular old guy who likes a round of golf and a bit of pussy grabbing.

I don’t give a toss about the royal family either way, I guess many would, but I wouldn’t want to live like a royal so don’t begrudge them their money, status and lifestyle etc. I live near where they used to live in the U.K., there was a local pub that became famous because they made a visit for a Sunday roast, then made a second visit. The landlord told me that they didn’t phone ahead or book, because they can’t because a barman or waitress could phone the press and alert them. They pulled up in their car, their security guards came in and had a look around and made sure it wasn’t too busy then they went in. They only ended up going twice because if they keep going to a normal place like that too many people will cotton on. Personally I couldn’t think of anything worse, if you want money enough I personally believe you can work hard enough to achieve it, but I wouldn’t want to have to live my life like that, so good luck to them I say.

Regarding the whole Harry and Meghan thing, it’s all very predictable. She knew exactly what she was getting into, the Royal Family is what it is, it was hardly going to change because of her. You either suck it up and throw yourself into it (like Kate Middleton) or just don’t marry a Royal. I guess as has been discussed, people watch absolute crap reality TV and find it entertaining, so that is probably why some people find interest in this story. To me it’s just an entirely predictable non-story.

Mr and Mrs Markle are just distractions to keep us from looking at what is really happening.
She is clearly a piece of work , hence no family at wedding, however she is serving a purpose
for those who like to keep us all subservient. IMO.

Oprah: Conversations were had amongst senior members of the royal family about how dark skinned Archie would be and the consequences for the brand.

Not a good look for the royals...

I would think that most people to be honest would have been inquisitive about the babies skin tone along with the possibility of the baby having harry's ginger hair etc , whats the problem?

I think I saw them live at Loughborough student’s union supporting The Young Knives.

The Young Knives were a great band who have churned out some absolute crap the last few years. Almost like they've deliberately wrecked their career.

They’re locals so it was always a jape seeing them in Loughborough.

I think they just completely ran out of ideas by the second album. First album was great, to be honest I had no idea they were still going!

I liked the first 2 albums, 3rd was very average and the last 2 were basically unlistenable as they went off into a sort of techno white noise mess.

Ciff and I were just discussing this. It's an establishment pile on. It's from all angles. Seen it done before so many times now. Corbyn, Scargill etc. etc.

The racism here runs very, very deep at the top end. Fortunately a lot of those old colonial bring-back-the-empire buffers are dying out now and the next generations are more a bit more worldly.

Who gives a **** about them. How can they warrant most of the BBC front page. Anyone would think there is nothing of significance happening in the world at the moment.

I don’t think we will. Not that it matters much in the grand scheme of things, but I think both sides are being “economical” with the truth. I’m “meh” about the Royal Family tbh but I don’t see how giving an interview to Oprah really fits in with going to live in the US because you want more privacy. And I do feel sorry for the Queen - there seems to be no suggestion that she has been anything but kind; so why put your 94 yr old grandmother through the stress of airing all your dirty laundry in public?

I'll watch the programme tonight, but know I'll regret doing so. From what I've seen of Harry and Meghan's comments I can't quite understand why they feel the need to go public with this kind of stuff. It just seems like a tawdry marketing exercise by a couple of self-obsessed brats. That said, you have to worry for Harry's sanity - since he started surrounding himself with Californian air-heads he seems to be completely losing the plot

The thing about that attitude is 20 years ago no one was running to the Queen's side. In 1997 she was battered from every angle. Her family are still a set of absolute feckwits who continue to be an embarrassment.

It's another sign of the populist times I think. Hence Shilton festooning his post with the flag.

I don’t really want to watch it, but then I initially didn’t watch the Prince Andrew one, which turned out to be one of the finest pieces of television ever.

Makes me wonder if the primary thing that has upset the press so much is that they didn't get the interview. No, come to think of it, I don't wonder about that at all.

Nothing makes someone feel welcome and included like a public statement saying "we bent over backwards to include you by letting you have a job, because our boss told us too"

It’s all 'mental health matters', 'it’s good to talk' and 'be kind' until an assertive woman of black heritage tells us she felt suicidal, isn’t it....

No fan of the royal family but this pair are a huge pain in the backside. No interest but can’t go to a website without this being the lead. They wanted out of the circus so bugger off and stop attention seeking.
