Sorry to be that guy and I don't want to imply you're an idiot or anything, but how strictly are you tracking your calories? If it's fastidious, are you sure the values you're using for items are correct? I'm more than 10kg lighter than you and my maintenance is significantly higher than that. I guess age might be the varying factor, but my own does, incredibly tragically, not begin with a '2' at this point itself...

If you liked that article, you should have read the thread I made immediately after the cup final. It said all the same things just 12 months previously - weren’t so many people queuing up to agree then though.

i am indeed fastidious. i have been tracking calories for about three years now, and use a small set of scales. i actually went to see the doctor a while ago about it, i have an extremely slow metabolism. ironically for when i go climbing that is excellent, as a fairly light meal can set me up for long periods of time.

it is a significant pain though when trying to shed weight. pre-lockdown i had gained about 5kg of new muscle weight in my upper body. i actually looked as good as i have ever looked, despite being 87kg. im 6ft tall and carry the weight quite well, however with all the gyms shutting i decided to shred as much body fat as i could. i have lost a couple of percentage points in terms of muscle weight but also a fair bit of the muscle i had worked hard to put on. unfortunately i find it very hard to be motivated at home to do body weight drills. i have actually done quite a lot of running, which probably accounts for the 5kg weight loss recently.

Ah well, fairplay, my sympathy for you on that, that must suck! Good work on the fitness in general though.

I am the same in that I was using a TRX knockoff to do workout for the first couple of months or so of lockdown, but I had to stop as it was doing damage to the doorframe. I tried moving to a kettlebell, but the swings and get ups are just kind of annoying, even when you learn how to do them, so I've just been doing nothing much in the past month.

I plan to go back to the gym in the next couple of weeks, so fingers crossed I don't perish as a result. I only started counting calories during lockdown, and have lost a stone in fat as result (I know it's not much in muscle, because I hadn't worked out in 9-12 months beforehand, so I didn't really have any to lose )

I was running a lot before lockdown and did my first half marathon end of feb. Was down to 87kg (I'd been as high as 100).

Investing in a squat rack, an Olympic bar and 250 kg of plates a few years ago has been well worth it and throughout lockdown I've stuck to lifting, with running taking a second place, purely for fitness maintenance. I'm close to PB on most lifts, which for 42 year of age, is pretty decent.

    I'm also cultivating mass.

well done congrats on that. motivation is just super tricky at the moment.

my main reason for gaining the extra upper body muscle was to help with my climbing, there is not a chance in hell that i will be going anywhere near any of my mountain targets any time soon so it all seems like a bit of a waste. i turned 31 earlier this year though and know its just going to get harder to regain that muscle. im aware that being on low calories at the moment is not helping me long term with regards to muscle, but its a bit of a balancing act as i still need to be mobile enough to play football. i had thought about giving that up last year, but with no climbing now i fully intend to play on.

I reckon the rack was about £180. The weights were probably about 500 quid. I also have a big shed to put them in, which cost about £1500 but also doubles as my storage and man cave.

It's more than paid for itself though. bought it all back in about 2014. If I'd paid a monthly gym membership, that would have been 30 quid a month for a good 6 years.

Are we going to sell Deeney before the club finish releasing the Deeney documentaries on the club's YouTube channel? I think not.

Something must be off there in terms of your calculations on calories, because it's almost scientifically impossible that an active male could maintain 82kg of weight on 1800 calories per day!

My maintainance tends to sit around 3000-3500 calories per day, but having had nothing but resistance bands through lockdown I'm keen to get my strength back up quickly and pack on a bit more size again.

Currently at 88kg and around 13% bodyfat, aiming to get up to 90/91kg whilst maintaining a similar percentage.
