Is there anyone at the club capable or with enough experience to do a decent job as interim? Sounds a poor idea

I haven't a clue what our game plan was today, we could barely string two passes together for most of the game and resulted in hopeful punts into the channel due to little movement especially in the first half. Second half the team got the ball on the deck and drove at Swansea. Chak, Kone and TDB all played well and was pleased to see Rajovic look slightly improved once again bar the 50/50 he bottled. Bachmann made two great saves but had a mare for their goal, you can't rush out like that without at least calling for it. Lewis is a waste of a shirt, truly disgusting attitude. Thought Swansea weren't up to much scratch and were quick to employ the dark arts when needed to with a fair few dives chucked in.

I hate how we start games, all this trying to sus out the other team is a load of rubbish. Play our game and sod them.

It went right into the middle of the goal and didnt have a great deal of pace in fairness., certainly something Bachman should have been able to deal with if he stayed put. Watching the goal again its difficult to understand what Bachman was trying to achieve by rushing out the way he did.

That's the second home game in a row we have a somewhat acceptable second half performance, but only because we shuffled the pack after a woeful start. I give Ismael some credit for actively trying to do something to improve us against Huddersfield, but then Chak is benched again and only emerges through an enforced change once Sema got injured...

Do the Watford players ever train or practice together? It never looks like it. One team tonight looked like the knew what they were doing (even though they did very little) the other hadn’t a clue.

I was struck by a thought as the dirge before kick off dribbled to an end. Maybe the reason we start so slowly is that Elton has put them into a soporific state of mind.

Still don’t get why they play that particular song, surely there’s better EJ songs they can use if they insist on having ‘kick off’ music.

Although Bachmann made some good saves there is an irony to the absolute calamity of an own goal being the one time in his career he decides to come off his line

It doesn't matter if it's Tony Brown or Gordon Blair.

We're terrible in this moment, I truly believe we need new owners now.

Get Barry Fry in, till the end of the season and give the ****er a lot of china.

Bachmann would struggle but a competent keeper would have been fine.

Hilarious some actually believe it would provide motivation and ‘do our team talk for us’ They must’ve been locked in a dark room for the past 5 years, our players would shrug, at best laugh a bit and agree and then probably find ways to play even worse.

Yes cannot see Dennis being that bothered about any criticism and actually Hoedt is slow despite being fairly decent in a bad defence .

And well others probably know they are slow and don’t press well but don’t bother trying to improve .

Not a great game, but not the worst either. Effort was there, but the skill and quick thinking generally wasn't.

I would put the blame 33.3% on Andrews (not looking) and 66.6% on Bachmann (bizarre rushing out) for the comical goal conceded. You can't just assume your keeper is in the middle of the goal and if you're forced into heading back blind (which Andrews was not really) then you try to put it wide just in case the keeper isn't where you think he was.

Awful miss by their forward when he got 1 on 1 with Big-gob Bakkers after a horrendous half-hearted error from Lewis. I would say that was 50% save and 50% miss. One of those where you could see the forward's backside twitching as he wondered what to do and dallied a little too long.

Our goal was a scramble. I wondered about possible offside had there been VAR. Bayo really wanted to claim it.

2nd half was again much better than the 1st. Swansea did very well with some crucial blocks to shots, but we were so slow in getting shots away that the defenders always had that 0.5 extra second to get across.

One glorious chance where Asprilla got through and miserably failed to lay it off to Ken who was in the clear and ready to smash it home. Instead he had a middling shot which got blocked and the chance went. Ken was raging. He waved his arms and called the Barca bound boy "a greedy Colombian c-c-cu...."

Without defending Val against worthy criticism, the players he has to work with are absolutely horrendous. Barely a game goes by where at least one of them makes an error that leads directly to a goal. Whatever game plan you muster up is out the window within minutes. Fact is if games ended at half time we'd currently be level on points with Rotherham.

Can you imagine having to set up a team choosing either Rajovic or Bayo? Imagine having Bachmann in goal? Gino has already played his hand and we've been in managed decline for 5 years. It's been an interesting tenure but it's time to hand over the reigns now. He is not capable of bringing this club forward.

    Yes but was Hamer injured?
If he wasn’t then the manager did not need Bachman in goal. Bachman is no where near championship standard - he makes the whole defence nervous.

there can be no excuse for picking Bachman over Hamer. That has to be on the manager

You can’t drop a keeper for just one bad game though,‘otherwise you might be swapping them every week, so Bachmann will be out for the next game but then possibly back in for the game after, by that logic.

Bachmann is an awful keeper over an extended period of time, which is why you should get dropped.

Yes I agree. Bachmann is probably marginally the better keeper of the 2 in my opinion. He's supposed to be our no.1 and started the season as club captain. I wouldn't agree he's been bad for ages - most were reasonably satisfied with his performances in past seasons.

Now he sees his career, which looked like Man Utd and Austria at one point, sitting on the bench in the 2nd division. Things have really gone downhill quickly for him in the last 6 months.

I expect that accounts for the crazy 1000 miles an hour rushing around last night. He was desperate to shine and retain his place at least.

He must have been gutted over the OG and he'll at least feel better over the good saves he made later.

    Very true .

Doesn’t help the defence that we see endless changes to it too .

Anyone but the most desperate candidate would want to see which league we’re in next season before committing to come here, surely ? Though I can’t think we will be attractive to anyone but the most desperate “available-now” manager given our prospects, trigger happy history, and shambolic recent history.

Hamer is the far more solid all round keeper, with the odd mistake in him. Bachmann will make a few good saves every game, but is generally a liability, and has terrible judgement, doesn’t come for stuff he routinely should, comes for stuff he routinely shouldn’t etc. etc. the defence have far less confidence in him than Hamer as a result.

purely guess work on my part, but I’d estimate about 80% of the forum were by no means satisfied by his performances in the past seasons, he’s very much been an obvious weak link. I think the fact we’ve been playing a keeper who was bought without the intention of him ever having to play first team football very much confirms that.

But anyway, I think (if he’s not injured) dropping a keeper after on bad game is absolutely shocking man management. It piles the pressure on them for the next game they play and makes further mistakes far more likely. If he was injured fine, if he wasn’t then Val is an idiot that is clearly thrashing around in the dark at this stage.

    Hilarious stuff, never change.

Hoedt's was a pass along the floor after having already taken a couple of touches and under no real pressure which he then mishit, and a goalkeeper positioned quite sensibly wide of the posts to receive it.

Andrews' was a header from a long ball where he had to get something on it and Bachmann had steamed out of goal towards a ball that was covered by a defender and was dropping outside of the box.

Anyone that's ever played football can tell you that they're not the same. If you had to bet your house on successfully completing a pass back to the keeper which scenario would you rather be in?
