I would have taken this news as a positive sign that our bang average Championship strikers were on their way out...but you only have to look to last season when Deeney outlasted his 'replacement' Glenn Murray...

Fletcher vs Deeneys numbers this season, a surprising correlation.

 

So Fletcher created less but got in to more goalscoring positions. Not surprising as Troy often played more like a #10 and never gets in the box in time. Most surprising though is Fletcher's lack of dribbles, given that I thought he also sometimes plays wide.

Do you also have that chart but with Fletcher's stats from 19/20? Injuries may have hindered him and Boro fans seemed to think he was lacking in motivation this season, perhaps due to his contract situation.

 

I suppose Troy's xG stats are inflated by the regular penalties lol

If we can shift two of Deeney, Gray and Success then I'm content with this signing as competent squad filler when required. Still young-ish but even if he turns out to be another Gray at least his wages won't be nearly as egregious.

 

Sit Thomas of Mooney. Signed from Southend in a cheap as chips deal after a pretty unconvincing career to that point. Went onto become a Watford legend.

I'm not saying Fletcher will do the same but let's see whether coming to Watford is the making of him. You never know.

 

You can't even make comparisons tbf. Mooney came on loan I think first and you could instantly see he was the type of player that gave 100% every game. Can anyone say that about Fletcher?

He did & he was excellent. I was delighted when we made the move permanent.

Southend didn't think so at the time. They practically gave him away to us. Of course it's a fair comparison bud in that respect that just because someone wasn't great at a previous club we write them off for it.

If Fletcher turns out to be another Perica then no harm done that's all I'm saying but crikey let's give the fella a chance to be ***** first at least!

 

Haven't seen Fletcher play for Watford yet so couldn't possibly say.
