I won some radio phone in competitions years back where you had to call in and leave a voice message by being overly enthusiastic, especially when they called me back. I won a Capital Radio phone in for a load of formula one gear and the bast**ds never sent it.

My favourite things on House of Games are:
1. The ‘celebs’ who are totally unable to mask their competitive drive while pretending to be generous to their opponents.
2. The ‘celebs’ preparing to admonish their agents for landing them on a show that makes them look stupid on national TV.

I also like the way they edit the time between the end of the question and the time it takes for a celeb to buzz.

I spoke to someone whose cousin is Jenny 'The Vixen' Ryan off The Chase. She had been on Only Connect and apparently they edit the buzzer on the missing vowels round, because viewers complained that they never had a chance to guess before the nerds on the show got it.

I suspected that HoG was the other way round. If I was a celeb I'd be going home with a onesie, fondu set, wheelie case, dartboard and tool box, plus the trophy.

Also, for 'where is Kazakhstan' it's quite surprising to see wealthy people who are generally likely to be more well travelled unable to pinpoint France or China on a map of their respective continents.

 

Every now and again we have a work quiz night, (trust me, it's better than it sounds), on teams which works really well. When it's my turn to host I'd LOVE to do a round where people have to guess a location as it's one of my favourites but I have no idea exactly how to do that remotely??

 

I love quizzes. I spend my free time on Sporcle or quizzing against Wiz and Nug (from the Forum quiz league).

It's my ambition to get on Millionaire and i apply every series, without success. I was once on The Chase.

There might be something you can do with Google forms, which allows people to submit answers. The key thing is you don't want people to be able to see other people's guesses or they can piggy back and get lucky happened to me in a zoom quiz. They asked how long the river Thames is, in miles. I guessed something like 209. I couldn't remember exactly but knew it was close. Everyone after me used that as a benchmark so guessed 210, 211, 212 etc. It's actually 215.

 

Kahoot is a good application. Create an account and set up the questions, you can have pictures etc. Then once the quiz is ready you send the participants a code, which they then use on a mobile app. During the quiz share your screen so they see the questions one by one, then they submit their answers on the phone. No one else can see what anyone has answered.

 

My wife is a teacher and she uses Kahoot loads as it keeps the kids slightly more engaged than usual. They all sing the wait music when it counts down the answer time.

 

Come on Moog, you can't just leave us hanging like that, how was the experience, who were you up against and did you win?

My cousin's husband was on some quiz presented by Tess Daly (can't remember the name) on the lottery show in the mid-00s and won a trip to the Beijing Olympics. He was very surprised to find that someone had uploaded the whole show on there a few weeks ago.

It was very tense because he gave 'anthracite' as the answer to a question where it should have been 'coal' but the adjudicator ruled it should have been accepted. They then had to reshoot the 6 or 7 questions that would have followed and make them exactly match the time he took.

We won by a whisker as he just didn't have time to blurt out the year on a kronenberg bottle before the timer sounded.

Google forms is pretty easy to use and has a quiz function.

I have in the past threatened or even sent companies an invoice for my time in cases like this. Rarely settled but tends to get things done.

I actively go out of my way to avoid dealing with BT. I'd actually pay more to use an alternative provider.

I like subtitles and subtitled films. I don’t actively have them on when not needed of course, but I recently re-watched Scarface with them on having not seen it for years and it was great. I’m going to do the same with Tenet as a lot of the dialogue is hard to catch.

 

Might I suggest you see if your copy has an "Audio Descriptive Track" and put that on as well so you can work out WTF is happening.

 

Well, reading bits and bobs after I watched it in an attempt to understand it, I came across the suggestion that you absolutely need to watch it twice to understand it, but that watching again with subtitles massively helps in that regard too.

 

Having a missus who is going deaf, (she has a cochlear implant now), subtitles are an absolute must in our household. I'm so used to them now that I'll even keep them on when nobody is watching but me. Programs that don't have the subtitle option don't get watched in our house.

 

I can't read the subtitles and fully concentrate on what is happening. There seems to be so many new shows that sound interesting until the summary ends with "Italian with subtitles" or "Swedish with subtitles".

Yes I would prefer dubbed English as I cannot watch them as they are.

 

That is a different thing, I also turn the subtitles on for programs where pronunciation is hard to pick up the actual words occasionally. But this is just a glance when needed not something you have to rely on for everything.
