Sarr has been a terrible purchase. Absolute waste of money.

Prefer JP tbh. Seems to enjoy playing for us and will probably end up being the better player

So the forum is pretty unanimous on our two high earning strikers.

Deeney always used to get a goal to keep the haters away for a while but he looks shot now as a striker and the lack of, weol anything is just getting embarrassing.

Gray on the other hand just looks so half arsed it's almost criminal.

Yep. A player worth 35 million would be dominating this division. The standard is poor this year

I'd rather play Clevs up front then either of the chuckle brothers. Not that I'd play him there, but at least he knows where the goal is.

    LB Orn - good post.
I agree there is something not quite right about our attacking in general. OK we get some nice speedy breaks but generally when we pass around the oppo box I currently don't think they know what the M.O. is for breaking through.? We scuttle around the edge of their box with short intricate passing but rarely provide an end product, other than blocked shot or overhit cross.

Today was decent overall, our shape and effort is good, we just need to sort out our attacking, although once again we looked quality when Zinc and Hughes joined in. At least we're unlikely to see Deeney and Gray together.....

Er...that was supposed to be "play him with JP and keep Sarr on the wing". Whoops!

I do wish he would attack space with his pace when it presents itself. He would more than likely beat most opponents and earn the opposition several red cards. But his assists have been invaluable and would have been higher but for the two lumps upfront.

This is the crux of the matter for me.
Sarr looks so flipping sour all the time.
JP has joy in his play and this is so refreshing to see.
Maybe if Freddie just played the game he'd enjoy it more. "Love of the game" as Alan Jones always says.

I guess we will see one day, because a striker who helps the team create in the first place is more likely to be given the service he desires.

Deeney has become very limited in his role in the team and Gray is actually a hindrance because everything breaks down when the ball comes to him.

Inconsistent, but he does at least have some Premier League pedigree, who knows what JP would look like if he were transported to the Prem now? Be interesting to see how he would do with us in the Prem if we go up

The defence will state that this is not a statistically significant sample though. Awful waste of space and wages for the club. A parasitic infestation which weakens the constitution and the will carry on. Imagine a team of eleven Grays. The stuff of nightmares.

Would have taken 2-0 at 3PM so happy with the result especially because The Scum beat Bournemouth as well. We looked solid but I think that's partly down to the fact that Huddersfield were not very good. I thought Sierellta looked solid all game. I think Xisco needs to find a way of getting Zink in the starting line up as we lack much creativity and Hughes needs to start games. I was glad to see JP back in the line up he offers us far more than our other forwards. I was pleasantly surprised to see Bachman start ahead of cycling GK as well, he didn't really have much to do but he looked solid enough.

Would have transferred him in the off season. GT rarely made mistakes. Relied on his assistants and scouts and they were knowledgeable.

Is it wrong to start a government petition to ban Andre Gray and Troy Deeney from playing for Watford as they are ruining the beautiful game ?

edit: I might have just started one, but now thinking twice about it :)

This has been a huge and notable issue with our team for years - even when we won under Javi, it was mostly either because we pressed high, forced a mistake and capitalised on it, or because Deulofeu broke on a counter attack. We have had no real attacking plan in the final third for several seasons, possibly since Iggy stopped scoring, to be perfectly honest.

We don't have players with guile to break the lines with passing, and we don't have dribblers who beat defenders and either drive into the box or play low crosses to feet that strikers can convert (forgetting the fact that the strikers wouldn't be there to convert them).

We need creativity as much as anything else, but we don't get much of what else we need, so hey.

    Not having it.

Despite these "scraps", JP now has 6 goals from open play. Deeney and Gray combined have more minutes from open play than JP yet have just 2 goals.

We probably manage about 2 crosses a game at least as good as the one today which JP scored from, except whenever we've done them with Troy on the pitch he's just been nowhere near it. Again today, if we didn't have JP there then we wouldn't have got a goal despite the good cross, because as per usual Troy was too far behind play.

Cleverley's goal today also wouldn't have happened from TD, as he's somehow even slower and rarely bothers to close down opponents with the ball except as a token gesture. Gray might've got there but would have probably stuck it wide. I also reckon JP or Cleverley would have slotted away the chance which Troy had just before he was subbed.

JP is just 19 and plays fairly deep for a forward. Clevs is a 31 year-old CM. They are showing that there are more goals to be had with some movement, quality and determination which Gray and TD simply lack.

What a **** league this year, two teams will go up thinking 'how the **** have we done that!' and Norwich will be thinking 'how did we win the league by THAT much?' :D

Goals change games. First half ponderous, slow, laboured......and performance fitting what's gone on before under Ivic.

Second half was probably even worse before Cleverley chased a lost cause and scored a goal straight out of the comedy club, which we initiated in the first fixture.

Once we got our noses in front we looked far more assured. The second goal was quality. Lovely bit of Kiko movement, a touch past his defender and beautiful low cross. Should have been tucked away by Sarr, but Pedro was very alert to place his first time shot past the hopeless Huddersfield keeper.

After that it was easy street, but we made such hard work of something that should have been routine. In the end it ended up like that, but had we not benefited from that extraordinary **** up, we'd have laboured to a 0-0 no doubt.

I'm very pleased we won of course, but not convinced we've turned the corner by any means. Still we're in touch, only 3 points from 2nd place. We still need to improve and we still need a quality striker to come in and make things happen in the final third. We're far too static as a rule and that needs to change.

We shall disagree. I don’t see us create very much at all in the final third. Sarr beat his man today, felt the slightest touch so stopped and dropped to his knees. Ideal to take the free kick instead given we are even more impotent at them than we are from open play.

No surprise that Dykes and Woodrow are up there as well.

Dykes is perhaps the only striker I've seen play in the Champ this season who could actually be more useless than Troy.

I laughed at @LeedsOrn 's suggestion of Woodrow in the transfer suggestions thread a few weeks ago as well, this backs up my view at the time that he's also cack (watch him score the winner on Tuesday now).

What depresses me more than anything is Troy starting by default.

He’s no longer a striker, he doesn’t score goals, he doesn’t look like scoring goals.

I can’t believe he actually gets credit from some for what he does do, which is occasionally hold the ball up and lay it off.

As far as professional football is concerned those are absolute basics, if we need someone to do that, anyone can do it.

Munoz could say to Kabaselle “hang around the edge of the box and chest the ball down” and he’d be able to do it, no problem.

Do we actually need someone to do that though?

The way we play and set up suggests that Troy is playing as a centre forward, so we need him to score goals. But he isn’t, so he’s wasting a spot in the team, week in week out.

We’ve got Zinc on the bench who had 24 assists and 19 goals in the Norwegian top division. Troy has 1, (that’s ONE) goal from open play in the English second tier.

How could picking Zinc ahead of Troy possibly make us any worse??

How could picking any player ahead of Troy make us any worse, considering Troy can no longer do his actual job?

We should try 4231 with Pedro up front and right to left Sarr Zinckernagel Sema behind him, holding MF 2 a choice of Clevs/Chalobah/Hughes? back 4 right to left of Kiko, a choice of 2 CB of Kabaselle, Serrialta, Cathcart, Masina on the left. Big ben in GK.

Zinc should switch with Sema & Sarr in a free role.
